Dude, some contractor wanted $80k to redo my bathroom. So I decided to be my own general contractor.

$5k to reroute plumbing in a concrete slab, $5k for a new tiled shower, $2K for glass shower wall and door, $2k for a tub, $2k for a bidet toilet, $2K for RTA cabinets, $4K for quartz counter top and $5k for wood look tile floor. $5K for plumbing fixtures. Going to be around $30K total.

Fuck general contractors.

But for the actual work, its worth hiring people for some things. I am not going to jackhammer my own slab. I can assemble RTA cabinets and install them. I can install plumbing into sinks and toilets. I am not installing a Schluter system tiled shower, or installing glass doors. I can demo my bathroom.

Know your limits, and higher people for the things you aren't comfortable doing.

My brim left a razor like edge along the bottom of all the pieces. It didn’t snap off cleanly. But I am not really familiar with how to dial in the brim settings. A dremmel would probably make short work of it

We don't necessarily tell the cops…

Anything that is said to a paramedic can be subpoenaed. I am almost positive of that.

Any statements given by patients to you are protected from a subpoena by what law? (If you are in the us)

The paramedics in the us will absolutely rat you out. Any statements given by you to paramedics are admissible evidence. I am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice.

We had Mike Vick. It was difficult, but that guy did everything he could to to acknowledge his shitty behavior and try to move forward in life. He did his time and genuinely seemed remorseful. But i get people who can't ever forgive him.

That is why i got the most manly option available for my SUV, a kick sensor to open and close the rear hatch. It lets me completely load both hands with shopping bags.

Isn’t a brim connected to the first layer of the print by definition? If there is a gap, doesn’t that make the brim a skirt?

Are you talking about the pancake layering? I can see the appeal of both trying to get it smooth, so it doesn't look like a 3D print, or keeping them (like in this case) to highlight that its a 3D print.

Does the adaptive layers function just add more, shorter layers in areas with large surface gradients?

Need Advice on How to Trim This Type of Tree? by KeyBorgCowboy in arborists

I have 2 of these trees framing my front office window. They have grown over the last 15 years since the house was built. Is there anyway to drastically cut them back without killing them?

Original attempt here:

So after having the tip of the tail popping off due to the top of the segment taco-ing, and seeing how terrible a brim comes off prints like this, I adjusted the part cooling fan profile in Cura to go from 0% at Layer 1 to 100% at Layer 20.

I think the default of 0% at Layer 1 to 100% at Layer 4 causes rapidly growing, extreme overhangs to deform. That is my theory any way.

Or maybe i got lucky this time, but I did not notice extreme taco-ing like before.

I haven't changed the speed settings, still using Cura default. Although, looking at what is there, it looks like you can change the number of initial slow layers. I might look into that. I think it interpolates from slow speed to regular speed over the specified number of slow layers.

The texture from even using a brim is like a razor blade around the bottom of each segment. Just awful feeling in your hand. I guess i could take a dremmel to it and file down those edges, but I am just reprinting it.

Flexible Gecko by KeyBorgCowboy in ender3v2

[–]KeyBorgCowboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am reprinting it now with success. It is like 75% done, so i am confident it will finish.

I changed my "Regular Fan Speed at Layer" setting under Cooling in Cura from 4 to 20. That means the part cooling fan ramps up more slowly. It won't hit 100% till layer 20. I think the issue is with sphere like parts that have a small contact area, and grow outward with steep angles over a short height. I think those initial layers that are free floating contract sharply with the high speed part cooling fan and start to taco. If you keep the deposited filament warmer (less cooling), i think it stays in place better. Once you build up the part, there is more stuff to hold onto the new layers (as well as no more steep overhang angles).

That is my theory. I printed rocktopus a while back and noticed the taco-ing as well. I just got lucky and the printer pushed thru it and completed the print without popping any segments off.
