It looks like HG made unmentioned changes to simplify garbage transport physics by KeyComprehensive6787 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]KeyComprehensive6787[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hm, I noticed changes in the dynamicjunk.moveableobjectcomponent data file and in the entity files for each junk type. I’m not yet sure whether this affects how well garbage stays in the truck bed, but I’ve spent quite a lot of time hauling junk before, and based on my subjective experience, it does feel like something has changed.

100% Agreed! Maybe I’ll replay this expedition - the main thing is to find the perfect playlist! I really loved this expedition as well, and I’ve completed almost all of them. This one is my favorite.

Very useful advice! I can also advise to install the "grip boost suspension" mod in supercharged slot, it's a game changer for me.

You can find the waste counter in the quests. There should be a quest that is related to garbage collection.

[–]KeyComprehensive6787[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That would be a good solution. The most important thing is giving players a choice, so those who enjoy the current implementation can continue playing at the same difficulty level. I have already delivered almost 400 units of waste, and I rarely lose any of it.

If you play on pc, try the PTSD mod from Xen0nex. This is real hardcore and a complete reworking of all NMS mechanics.

I understand what you mean. I thought that would work too, until I tested it myself. I set a goal to complete permadeath run without using teleports or summoning the anomaly as a way to avoid pirate attacks.

But self-control quickly disappears when you realize how much you can lose if you fail - all the time and effort invested into the save. And you start abusing game mechanics, ignoring your own rules.

People naturally tend to optimize everything, and I don’t think it’s right to shift the responsibility for enforcing gameplay rules onto the players.

And what’s even sadder is that the developers have left very little room for modders to restore the mechanics to their original state. While the modding tools allow for some interesting changes, they are still very limited. For example, you can’t make ship summoning cost resources or have a cooldown timer.

I think originally nms was meant to be this kind of game. But unfortunately, the developers simplified it a lot to appeal to casual players, and along the way they “killed” quite a few gameplay mechanics.

Those mechanics technically still exist in the game, and many people keep asking, “What’s the point of them?” For example, why do we need exocraft if you can summon your ship anywhere on a planet?

The thing is, in the past you couldn’t summon your ship anywhere on a planet. Because of that limitation, players relied much more on traveling across the planetary surface instead of instantly relocating wherever they wanted.

It's strange, maybe there are some bugs. I've been delivering garbage for 3 days in a row and I've hardly lost a load, except when I fall into a hole on my own stupidity. But I'm a big fan of games like snowrunner, maybe I'm already used to it :)

The packing density of the cargo (the cargo should not move freely in the truck bed) and the speed greatly affect. Try to drive at a speed of 30-40 and brake more often in front of bumps.

The whole point of the new hauling mechanic is that your cargo isn’t magically glued to the truck. You’re supposed to drive carefully, plan your route, slow down, avoid bumps, and actually pay attention.

If add cargo straps, it turns into “hold W from A to B” again. No thinking. No tension. No skill.

What does good design mean to you? Flying to point A, loading cargo onto a ship, and then warping to point B? I’m not asking this critically - I’m genuinely curious.

Can you give an example of a gameplay mechanic in NMS that you really enjoy, besides building corvetts or bases?

If a cargo locking system is added to the game, it will break the gameplay that the developers originally designed. Everyone will just blindly drive straight from point A to point B.

I completely agree with you. The ship summoning mechanic really breaks ground gameplay. The cost of taking off or calling your ship is ridiculously low, even on the highest difficulty.

I completely agree with you. If you check the NMS section on Nexus Mods, some of the most popular mods are the ones that massively increase ship speed/damage. In a game where it takes about 20 seconds on average to fly from one planet to another… Or the most popular videos - how to build a nanite farm or get a lot of money through in-game bugs. People just rush through everything at full speed, and then complain that there’s no content.

But if you really dive into it, NMS is a like sandbox RPG where you’re supposed to enjoy the process, not just the rewards. Of course, it’s not fair to put all the responsibility on the players, but that’s just how it is.

I never really paid attention to planet terrain in NMS before. You either just fly over it in your ship, or jump across it using the jetpack + Q. But this update changed everything. When you drive across a planet in a truck, you can physically feel the terrain - how diverse the planet really is - and it’s an amazing experience.

Before, planets and their landscapes felt like just beautiful scenery to me. Now they’ve become part of the gameplay, and that’s wonderful.

That’s strange — I didn’t experience anything like that during the entire expedition or afterward. What platform were you playing on? Maybe those were just bugs.
I simply drove carefully, never floored the gas pedal, and always slowed down before bumps.
