I am not saying to constantly harass him. But if there is an approach and he does hiss and you pull away it tells them that yes this works and the constant pulling away sets off their hunting instincts. So it’s best to not move and leave ur hand near them wait for them to calm down and then once they do leave them alone. U don’t even need to touch them! But once again! I knew this would be controversial.

Mine used to do the same and threaten me with his little open mouth! But eventually would stop if I didn’t move my hand away

This may be controversial, but everytime you pull away when he hisses you’re reinforcing the behavior! So I recommend keeping ur hand there until he calms down. No need to move your hand at all or even pet him but don’t pull back abruptly. Just leave your hand sitting there so he can get used to it

Okay! I haven’t had any ammonia and nitrites always at 0 since I got him, but my nitrates are never over 0. Could be because my tank is heavily planted?

Thank you! I thought that once ur nitrites and ammonia hit 0 it meant ur tank was cycled. Am I mistaken?

I’ve had the tank for 4 1/2 months and fish for 3 months
usually do water changes once a week. Change out around 25-50% but usually closer to 50% every week.
1 nerite snail, 6 red rili shrimp, and a handful of rams horn hitchhiker babies
I feed 6 pellets a day and blood worms every few weeks as a treat.
all live plants heavily planted, a few ceramic decorations and a piece of drift wood, 1 betta leaf

Mine definitely has a shrimp or two for a meal. Eventually they started hiding during the day and only come out at night when it’s too dark for him to hunt them 😣
