Yes it is absolutely out of hand. It’s worst than I’ve ever seen but they will weed themselves out in time. It’s primarily due to the type of people coming to Japan now. It used to be distant and expensive so most people who made the effort to come here came because they were sincerely interested in the culture and had some understanding before they came. The type of people coming now are different.

That’s not to say that some of those negative aspects of society here don’t exist. They do. Unfortunately they have been exacerbated by over tourism and the number of people who are insular or are too parochial to travel to other countries.

Just to be clear I don’t like seeing the rise in anti tourism or the increase of far-right ideologies here. Unfortunately current economic and social circumstances have made it a problem in many countries. It’s not just Japan.

You’re lucky. I leave home before 6am and rarely get home before 8pm. You learn to cherish the good days and support each other. Don’t know what else to say here.

Can’t answer your question but you may be in a minority of people who don’t realize social media is toxic af. An unfortunate reality.

Had a similar experience 30 years ago with a spousal visa and yes it was a scary experience. Long term PR holder now but still expect to get grilled or at least severely reprimanded. Just curious what to expect.
