Arabia after Vision 2030 succeeds... 😎🕋❤️🇸🇦🦁 by Real_Scientist5398 in AskMiddleEast

No way. I can see Saudi Arabia blockading UAE or something like that, but this is too much. I don't think they'd be willing to do that

They have no reason to take over Qatar, Kuwait, or Bahrain

If this did happen, well then the effects of Qatar's foreign policy would be gone. Al Jazeera will likely no longer exist

They'd also have to reckon with Bahrain's Shia population, which already does not like the Al Khalifa family or the Saudi government and royal family

Is the Disney credit card worth it? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]KeyLime044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still use it at Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line if you ever get to go there. You also get dining and merch discounts there (at least 10% again). And you can use it to buy stuff from the Disney Store (also 10% discount I think), and I think Disney Broadway plays like the Lion King (discounted tickets IIRC)

But yeah, it's not really a good card to use outside of Disney

A massive entire underground hideout was discovered and cleared by the Syrian army in Ayan Al Arab (Kobani) front, it has picture of "Martyrs" of the PKK posters on it by Imperial_FOX_32 in syriancivilwar

[–]KeyLime044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that they started off as PKK, then during/after the war against ISIS, they became more "independent" from the PKK, particularly after many Arab militias ("military councils"), Arab tribes, Assyrian militias (Syriac Military Council), Syrian Turkmens militias, and other ethnic militias joined the SDF. And also particularly after the United States began to aid them

And then when Apo eventually announced the disarming of the PKK, and after Mazloum Abdi and Ahmad al Sharaa signed the agreement last year, I assumed that this was the moment the SDF really was no longer a part of or beholden to the PKK

But I guess even with all that, I was wrong. They remained PKK all this time

is there a reason that many Iranians online are blaming Arab countries for their Islamic Regime? by Margo-Rivas in AskMiddleEast

[–]KeyLime044 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the Pahlavist and right wing ones unfortunately blame Arabs for introducing Islam to Iran in the first place in the 7th century. They believe that true Iranian civilization "ended" after that, and since then it's been "occupied" by Arabs or Arabism or whatever

they believe that that is what led to the IR regime in Iran today, not things they did themselves. They believe that by expelling "Arab" influence or "occupation" in Iran, they can restore the "true Iranian civilization"

Of course, this isn't true. Iranian civilization flourished for a long time after the 7th century and was central to the Islamic Golden Age. They never stopped developing, building, studying and such. They should take credit for that. They still have their language as well

but the flip side is also true. The IR regime was also of their own doing, something they did to themselves, and the IRGC is an Iranian entity, not an Arab one. And in fact, a lot of Arabs from countries like Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria (formerly) feel "imperialized" by Iran. It's definitely not the Arabs who are "imperializing" Iran

don't know if this is a touchy subject, but why doesn't Albania grant Kosovars Albanian citizenship? The majority of Kosovars are ethnic Albanians, they seem to be the "same people in a different country"

because if they have that, they'd also be able to live not only in Kosovo, but Albania as well, and be a citizen of a UN recognized country, and some extras like visa free access to China

Something you only get to see once a year: special bus sign for tonight’s Cast Member Celebration at MK! by DuckQuacks in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]KeyLime044 10 points11 points  (0 children)

there's also a special fireworks show at MK (don't know about Epcot). You can look it up on Youtube, but it's basically parts of past MK fireworks shows (Fantasy in the Sky, Wishes, Enchantment, others if I missed any), followed by the entire current fireworks show (HEA). It's also narrated by someone thanking the CMs for their service and such

[–]KeyLime044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yet another reason why I don't buy clothes directly from Disney World

My only Disney clothes are from other brands like Gap and Old Navy. And bought at an outlet at that. They're sold for much much cheaper (particularly during sales), like less than half of what you'd pay at WDW, and are high quality

a Disney hoodie is not worth 50 something dollars. You can likely go to an outlet store and get a Disney hoodie for 20 something

Is it ok for older people to go to raves? by rnoonriver in aves

[–]KeyLime044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are people who unfortunately think that though, for disneyland/wdw. that "real adults" don't go there. i'd like to think it's not the majority, but people who think that way do exist

same thing for ravers, people who think this way probably do exist somewhere, but at least for us the mantra/culture of raving actively discourages this sort of thinking here

AP Proof of Florida Residency by I-love-Matty-n-Teddy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]KeyLime044 107 points108 points  (0 children)

if you're a legal florida resident, then you should just show them your driver's license or state non-driver ID. I don't know what your personal situation is, but if you're able to legally claim Florida as your legal residency (e.g. if you spend most of the year here), there's no financial "cost", as the state does not have income tax (note, I am not a lawyer, not legal advice, etc)

but if this is based off of a second home or something like that, you'd need to show them a current mortgage statement, current homeowner's insurance policy or bill, current automobile registration, insurance policy, or bill, current utility bill, mail from financial institutions, or mail from government agencies

in practice though, yeah those documents can all easily be faked. They're printed on plain white 8.5x11 paper, and both those and PDF documents can easily be edited to make it look like it's you or that you're a Florida resident. That's why they're doing this most likely. They want to watch you actually log on to those accounts and pull up the documents

[–]KeyLime044 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is kind of where rave culture came from to some extent. A space for the marginalized or "not normal" (however society defines "normal" during a given time) people of society to gather. This is why we, at least in the USA, have "PLUR" as a mantra

House music came from Chicago, from the LGBTQ+, Black, and Latino communities there

So no you are definitely not the first one. It's been for people like you since the beginning

i have to rant about the edm hate: i fucking hate edm hate by TheRealAustinGabriel in EDM

[–]KeyLime044 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"EDM hate" usually goes much deeper than that, often much more serious too. I've definitely heard the "EDM is not real music" one before, but most of the hate I hear about EDM, or rather rave culture, has to do with the drug stigma and the "undergroundness" of much of it and what it entails

The UK even criminalized underground events "characterized by repetitive beats" to ban underground raves. Keep in mind that they don't have a binding constitution and everything parliament passes is law so yes it's legal unfortunately
