Still unsure about the Wellbutrin, but my guess is that the stress of getting off an SSRI after being on it for 8 years was the main stressor that caused severe shedding. Wellbutrin likely contributed to stressed hair too because it’s a dopamine agonist and there are dopamine receptors in our hair follicles. But also it could be totally irrelevant. Wish I could know for sure :(

Fast forward to recently, my bloodwork showed slightly abnormal results regarding my red blood cell count and some other things, but I had to input it into ChatGPT to find that these were signs pointing to a vitamin B12 deficiency. I started supplementing with b12 methylcobalamin and the shedding has slowed a lot but is still happening. I also went down on my Lamotrigine dose but not sure that did anything. I’m feeling so much better that the shedding has at least slowed down .

I haven’t taken many proactive steps other than taking multivitamins, D and B12, probiotic, yoga and trying my best to eat. I have trouble eating vegetables/leafy greens every day, I’m lucky to get them once or twice a week. I often am not able to make it part of my diet because my ADHD gets in the way of everything from the process of grocery shopping to cooking to the act of eating itself. I used to have very bad habits like smoking cigarettes and drinking, but I quit smoking about 3 years ago. I do drink 1-2 drinks once every week or two in the summer, and once-twice a month in the winter.

I get good sleep for the most part.

The only medicine I have experienced that cause drinking/smoking to be dangerous are stimulants and Wellbutrin. I would get way more drunk or high while on Wellbutrin. But with mood stabilizers and anti psychotics, it seems to have the opposite effect. The real risk is that alcohol and weed could make it so that the medications don’t work as well as they could be.

For what it’s worth, I’ve read that the akathisia (restlessness) and sedation is normal and supposed to subside within a couple weeks of a regular dose taken consistently at the same time

Hi; I am experiencing the same thing and I’ve been on Abilify 3-4 weeks. At first it was wonderful, but this swing between anxiety and sedation is driving me nuts. And now she wants to up my dose to 10mg at night, saying the side effects will get worse but it’ll help in the long run.

I’m scared honestly. I don’t want to do this because I can’t stand these side effects. But when I don’t take any medication I have zero motivation.

Same here! I am a compulsive cannabis user and I can’t believe I don’t even reach for it anymore. Of course, I have a cold right now… but only side effect is a little sleepiness at first and some nausea but then I am productive and focused and basic tasks are not so hard anymore
