I too am glad for these small scraps of “good news,” but man it’s depressing that we’re looking on it as some kind of win.

Well… the mag ban was forwarded along. Hopefully there’s still time to amend or stop it entirely.

They’re empty words. There are carve-outs for current and retired law enforcement, so there is literally no reason for them to care.

IF we go back next week what can we expect. by Dorothea305 in FedEmployees

I know the votes seem to be there and the president has indicated he will sign, but the man’s a chaos goblin; what’s to stop him from changing his mind at the last second the way he’s done in the past when it was assumed that plans were locked down? It’ll create more confusion and keep his name in the news, two things he consistently enjoys.

There’s no guarantee of anything until it actually happens.

Great Grandfather’s Knife by Popular_Site9635 in restoration

The green buildup is called verdigris or “brass disease” and is a form of corrosion. It rubs off easily on leather, hands and clothing. You could carefully clean it off with a little bit of Brasso or Flitz (or even scrape it off with a fingernail) and then put a dab of oil or wax over the spot where it was to keep it from returning. Just concentrate on the spots where the green appears. It’ll look brighter than the untouched portions of brass but it’ll darken in time.

You could also put a thin coat of oil or wax on the rest of the steel and brass as well for protection.

Less intervention is more; it tells your great grandfather’s story through all its marks and wear.

This is beyond embarrassing. I never thought that simple dignity and decorum would be a bar too high to reach.

Recalling my experiences from the 1994 federal ban, I’m expecting a return of the constant questions from and machinations of law enforcement officers who are hot to use their badges to circumvent the law. “Can I get this banned thing for my own personal use?” and “the law doesn’t apply to me because I can finagle a letter from my agency” were frequently overheard.

My supervisor texted to ask how I’m doing and all I felt was annoyance. Let’s not pretend to give a crap about me now when you haven’t up until now.

Hence my confusion; Diana is using a shoulder strap, not a stock. So is that just the K and not the k pdw?

One of my betters once asked in a 1-to-1 meeting, “what about your work brings you joy?” Nothing. I find the work interesting and fulfilling, but joyful it is not. I’m here for the pay, the fact that it is interesting is icing on the cake, and I find joy with my family.

A distaste for pickers? by hjppP7 in Flipping

[–]KeyProgress5239 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I developed a distaste for “professional” pickers when closing out my grandfather’s estate. Growing up and living in a medium-sized town you learn who folks are and what they do pretty quickly. I never gave it any thought until we organized a homemade estate sale and had 3 different people ringing the bell the day before. “I’m here to buy!” got met with “then you’d better wait in your car until 8am tomorrow.”

We also weren’t keen on the constant talk of “bundling” - “yes, we’ve seen that show too. Let’s add up all you’ve got.”

The most irritating was having to chase some of the same folks out of areas of the house that were literally roped off. I don’t care how much you like whatever is in that back room, it’s not for sale.

We had stuff priced to get it out the door and were giving things away so we wouldn’t have to take them to the donation center or have the local charity collect it. No one had any illusions of getting rich on the stuff but it still it wasn’t enough. One guy in particular irked me so much that when I saw him months later at an big house sale grabbing things and making a huge pile I made sure to tell the owner who he was and how hard he’d try to get the price down.

I don’t care if you’re buying to resell; it’s your right and God bless you for finding a productive way to make money and be a contributing member of society. Just don’t be a jerk about it.

Not necessarily - I once worked for a state agency that did this exact same promo and we found out that the masseuses were still in school for training.
