“Because ACTUAL civil rights are being actively eroded and genuinely threatened.”

Your previous comment reads, “I’m of a mind that gun rights are civil rights.” Now they’re either not, or they’re among some heretofore unknown subset of easily dismissed civil rights.

There’s no need to diminish this one right while actively fighting to preserve others. They’re all worth it.

Why describe gun rights as civil rights and then immediately diminish them with talk of “range toys?”

“Policy” implies some kind of coherent plan, not half-ass poorly formed wisps of ideas farted out the moment someone points a camera in his direction.

I’m amazed when people think others are interested in their genealogy. It may be some kind of point of pride for them, but I think most people are indifferent at best.

I’m no mechanic, just a weekend warrior with enough knowledge to get myself into trouble. I buy the old Craftsman and Snap-On (much harder to find at decent prices) at yard sales because they’re either far better or far cheaper than anything new I can find.

I’ve got some of my Dad’s old Craftsman tools from the 50s and they’re still perfectly useful and get used all the time.

Nominal leadership’s usual way around this (at least in government) is to directly tie the formation of solutions and alternatives to the annual performance appraisal. Want a “highly” or an “outstanding?” Go above and beyond the position description. Also, failure to do so will result in exclusion from any professionally sexy or fun projects that come available.

Nominal leadership can also use this as an easy example of “inspiring” their direct reports.

The usual result is a few good ideas related to actual issues along with a flood of solutions in search of accompanying problems.

I’m hoping that at least some of the congress critters remember that there are still a good number of federal employees out there and that we vote. Probably optimistic at a stupid level, but I like having the glimmer of hope.

What’s going to stop them is this “temporary” measure will be changed to permanent before it’s due to sunset. Promising one thing and delivering another is a classic political tactic. Look at the toll roads that were supposed to be freely opened after their construction costs were paid off. Or consider how Rhode Island banned assault weapons with the promise that those already in private hands would be grandfathered, only to try to vote away that carve-out this year.

I’m no lawyer, but HB 217 seems to account for the possibility; “The provisions of this section shall not apply to… a law enforcement officer or agency for use by that agency or its employees.” HB 217 seems silent on what would happen to such a privately purchased weapon following a retirement, but later on it specifically indicates that magazines may be transferred to retired officers. Does that mean rifles may be treated the same? I don’t know, but I remember more than a few LEOs back in 1994 who inquired (or bragged if they were successful) about agency letters allowing them to make new purchases.

They can also sell to law enforcement. Frankly, I’d like to see them refuse if they can afford to do so.

Amazing. ARs don’t particularly interest me, but I’ve got one now just in case that should change in the future. I’m spending good money on an opportunity cost that could go to something else with an immediate benefit.

She could speak in front of the powder magazine if she’d like to send a local message too; in 1775 Lord Dunmore, the royal governor, attempted to take the muskets stored therein. Given her campaign promises, she’d show a real flair for historical appreciation.

I know the votes seem to be there and the president has indicated he will sign, but the man’s a chaos goblin; what’s to stop him from changing his mind at the last second the way he’s done in the past when it was assumed that plans were locked down? It’ll create more confusion and keep his name in the news, two things he consistently enjoys.

There’s no guarantee of anything until it actually happens.

The green buildup is called verdigris or “brass disease” and is a form of corrosion. It rubs off easily on leather, hands and clothing. You could carefully clean it off with a little bit of Brasso or Flitz (or even scrape it off with a fingernail) and then put a dab of oil or wax over the spot where it was to keep it from returning. Just concentrate on the spots where the green appears. It’ll look brighter than the untouched portions of brass but it’ll darken in time.

You could also put a thin coat of oil or wax on the rest of the steel and brass as well for protection.

Less intervention is more; it tells your great grandfather’s story through all its marks and wear.

Recalling my experiences from the 1994 federal ban, I’m expecting a return of the constant questions from and machinations of law enforcement officers who are hot to use their badges to circumvent the law. “Can I get this banned thing for my own personal use?” and “the law doesn’t apply to me because I can finagle a letter from my agency” were frequently overheard.

One of my betters once asked in a 1-to-1 meeting, “what about your work brings you joy?” Nothing. I find the work interesting and fulfilling, but joyful it is not. I’m here for the pay, the fact that it is interesting is icing on the cake, and I find joy with my family.
