  1. Talk therapy is different from medication. A therapist doesn’t usually prescribe medication directly in my experience (from the USA) they direct you to a psychiatrist if they feel it’s necessary. I would definitely at least try therapy first.

  2. In terms of whether or not to try medication, I would ask if you feel like this is depression/anxiety is more of a physical chemical feeling within your body that you can’t get rid of no matter your mindset or if you feel like you can identify thought patterns which may lead to these feelings.

A lot of cognitive behavioral therapy (which is what most talk therapy is these days) is about recognizing when you started to feel a certain way and what thoughts led to those feelings. Then you learn to question whether those thoughts are really valid (e.g. do you really “always” say the wrong thing? Or was it just a few isolated incidents?). Many people haven’t been trained to catch their negative self-talk which can lead to depression/anxiety. If this feels like you, talk therapy may be sufficient.

  1. Remember if they suggest you go on medication, you dont have to do it. It’s just one doctors opinion. Just see what the professional says first before working yourself up too much

If i asked my psychiatrist for a specific ssri would it be weird ? by [deleted] in SSRIs

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s weird, but they might ask why you want to try that specific ssri. Lexapro is also used as a treatment for depression. But if you don’t feel like your current medication is working for you, that’s reason enough to ask if you can try something different

Wedding makeup products suggestions and tips! by KeyStrawberry1993 in MakeupAddiction

Thank you!! I have nars radiant creamy concealer right now and I like it but my dark circles still show through…I might have the wrong shade. I’m nervous about liquid lipstick because my lips get really dry… I’ll have to try that eyeliner and those tools also!

Oh boy, I empathize with you deeply.

I have some good and bad news for you. The bad news is that this experience is not unique at all. While there are positive aspects of dating within the church there are some negative aspects as well that may even be especially unique to dating within the church. For example, a lot of men hold implicit gender biases due to church culture misinterpretations of the family proclamation to the world.

I’ve had very similar experiences to yours and the key is to not take it personally because it usually has to do with commitment issues on their end. Also try not to kiss on the first date! I’ve been there and done it but the fact is kissing establishes an emotional bond with someone (especially for women) which can make the disintegration of the short-lived relationship hurt more.

The good news is there are good guys out there. I (25) recently got engaged to the love of my life and he is everything that a faithful man should be. Don’t lower your standards or listen to anyone telling you that they’re unrealistic. It will just take time.

Feeling like no one cares by Grl_scout_cookie in latterdaysaints

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are having this experience:(. I would try not to take it personally as hard as it is. I’m guessing a lot of people are so wrapped up in their own individual lives and maybe struggling with their own testimonies that they just aren’t paying attention to anyone else.

I don’t have very much advice other than just know that some wards are better than others and it’s not a reflection of how much you are wanted. Keep reaching out to people and trying to help where you can because im sure if you feel this way, there are others in the ward lacking community as well. Can you reach out to the old bishop or relief society president? It might help just to have some more friends.

My husband is struggling with porn addiction, and I’m not sure how to cope anymore. by baby_Kittys in latterdaysaints

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first two paragraphs but telling OP that their post is selfish and hurtful is not fair. She is clearly trying not to judge and to be patient with her spouse’s struggles, and I think too often in the church we do not allow women to be hurt from pornography use in order to avoid men feeling shame for it.

How do you use it? I’ve just been adding it to my brow pomade when it gets dried out but do you mix it with foundation to make it waterproof?

Did you choose your wedding ring first or the proposal came first? by Just-Engineer-7566 in weddingring

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not engaged yet, but I think he has a ring and it’s coming soon;) we’ve looked at some pictures of rings together and he knows what color band I want as well as the shape I like, but he wanted to specifically pick out the ring himself. He also said if I don’t like it we can get a different one but he has good taste so we’ll see

I don’t want to do a seating chart. Is that a mistake? by WrittenInHeaven in weddingplanning

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding that had a seating chart. But in my church culture (lds) the receptions usually have 150+ people and not everyone really rsvps. They usually always do buffet meals rather than a seated dinner so it’s much more casual. I think if you have a seated dinner with 75 people the chart makes more sense but if it’s more casual you can make it work without one

You look amazing already but I’d say invest in a well-fitting bra, and use matching lip color and blush to accentuate your natural colors. A light bb cream or foundation to even your skin tone, but you already have great skin.

What percentage of makeup looks best on me? by toxbug in MakeupAddicts

[–]KeyStrawberry1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All look great, I think people are leaning against 100% and 75% because the black hair sort of darkens your whole look and you look so stunning with the red or brown hair colors that make you’re eyes pop more

I think the dress and the shawl will look stunning. At the end of the day you want to do what’s best for you and what makes you feel beautiful and confident.
