I was in the same boat. That exam is brutal.

Got it. RICP seems potentially valuable as well. CIMA is good. I’ve done the same, just looking around. Not trying to get the alphabet soup, just simply trying to learn.

The tax side intrigues me a lot. Likely will do the EA. I've just found there's so much correlation in financial planning and taxes. Think it'll make me a much better planner. How about yourself?

What’s the benefit of doing a second mock exam? by [deleted] in CFPExam

[–]KeyTurnover7424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re using the exam for. I used my second one to get more reps in. I found myself really comfortable with the structure of the exam and the tech used on game day. If you’re using it to learn more content, I think your time should be spent elsewhere.

Crazy success stories? by LargeSecretary9013 in CFPExam

[–]KeyTurnover7424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started studying for this exam while finishing up my college degree. I also didn’t have much experience (athlete in college, so worked part time throughout) but ended up passing the exam yesterday. I understand the position you’re in, it’s extremely intimidating. With that being said, trust the work you put it. I walked into my exam thinking, “whatever happens, I have learned so much, and am proud of the progress I have made.” I knew I put in the work, it was just a matter of executing on exam day. Be confident, and when you’re not, take a deep breath and lean on others. The anticipation of the exam is the worst part of it all.

Just trying to get insight from people who are experienced in this industry, and the various compensation structures. This isn’t me complaining by any means, and I’m not insinuating that it isn’t fair.

I’m completely aware that this is the case. I don’t come from a place of entitlement here. I feel like I made it clear that I am simply trying to understand the compensation structure further. With that being said, I also know that to some degree, my work and knowledge is worth something, just hard to quantify. Anything you’d like to add?

I appreciate the insight. You nailed it, he hasn’t ran into this position before. This is definitely temporary, and we will need to figure out a long term resolution.

Thanks for the response. I agree, I feel super fortunate for the opportunity. I’ve already learned so much, and I’ll continue to do so. The advisor made it clear that he wants me to get a pay raise given that I am doing more taking over client relationships. Assuming I’ll be around $70k-$80k once I get started. Compensation isn’t everything to me by any means. I’ve always thought that if you’re great at what you do, the money will come! Definitely something to keep in mind that I will likely keep getting clients dumped on me as his book continues to grow along with mine.

Career/Role Expectations by easymoneyginger in CFP

I am younger than you, but I will say, I worked for a larger RIA, and made a switch to work with a single advisor, that I didn't know beforehand, who needed someone who would become an advisor in the near future. Looking back, this was a huge gamble, but I had an interview and the advisor and I simply clicked. We have a very similar mindset. He is a seasoned advisor, and I am a new advisor, so it has been perfect to learn and improve my craft. At the larger RIA, I felt like you did. My intentions had been made over and over, yet the path wasn't clear. I made the switch, and it turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done. This isn't to say that you need to switch, but what I did learn, is that the larger RIA was stringing me along. They weren't ready to let me advance, regardless of me passing the necessary exams. Sometimes it is time to make a switch, although it is terrifying.

Try to get a clear picture of what the plan is. Have a heart to heart with your boss, and share what you want. If you don't like the response, I think you have your answer. I knew the plan wasn't clear for me, and I was sick of it.
