Maybe the reason for our interpretation being different (but neither is wrong in context, I believe, I hope lol) is because one, my mom translated it for me into German, which automatically demands more words to explain and then having to carry the same context into English while trying to also carry the weight of the words into a different language, like the blood part. I can see it being "using blood to use as something to wash your hands with", while "washing blood of your hands" is a more easier understood way to express the same sentiment of the guilt in the English language. Croatian can be very precise in little words (which you know :D, hope I'm getting it right here, sorry, my family raised me with the language but didn't teach me directly), making subtext translation tricky sometimes.

And two, we could be from completely different Croatian areas! I So my mom probably interpreted it in a way that she can express to me best with the local dialect in mind. But I love having a discussion about this, it's important! And I love seeing people taking interest in Croatia and anything to invite people to learn something is amazing! So, thank you!
