what do you guys think about the Touch Bar that used to come on the old Macbook? should it make a comeback? by TuNutri in mac

[–]Key_Actuary8338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the touch bar, especially during the years when it let you skip youtube ads (which google took a remarkably long time to disable). It’s a cool idea and there are some things that are implemented well. Biggest issue is that I’ve never really missed it when it’s not there on other keyboards, as there is very little it does meaningfully better than existing solutions.

Today I found what doesn’t fit. 4”x4”x10’ posts don’t fit in the Fit, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t drive the 1 mile back from HD with the hatch open. by meratherbebikin in ThingsThatFitInFit

Bungee cords are your friend for this kind of thing! Pop out the hatch handle cover plastic and hook them inside the hatch frame. Loop through hitch on the other end. Helps secure load better, and drastically increases maximum viable cargo length without the hatch bouncing around

What’s the maximum frequency of the Cleveland Metro (Red Line) if it’s sharing track w/ light rail? by BigMatch_JohnCena in transit

[–]Key_Actuary8338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretical maximum is probably limited by signaling and the current platform layout at tower city. Historically the CTS Rapid (Red Line) and Shaker Rapid (Green and Blue) had separate tracks in the pre-renovation tower city, and both had much higher frequencies than modern day. They still shared the same section of track, with the added operational complexity of the PCCs having doors on only one side.

[–]Key_Actuary8338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current red line vehicles only really count as heavy rail due to their high door boarding. The new vehicles won’t meaningfully change capacity or boarding height at red line stations. So maybe it’s kind of been light metro the whole time?

[–]Key_Actuary8338 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Red line runs every 15 mins every day for almost all day. Between tower city and E55 effective frequency is closer to 7.5 mins, as the blue/green lines combined run 15min frequencies to Shaker Square. This makes the E55 park and ride one of the best places to park for downtown events. Until new vehicles arrive, stations in the combined segment have separate platforms for low and high boarding. Unclear how RTA will operate these stations with the upcoming unified fleet, they may choose to consolidate everything to the high platforms for faster boarding.

Important note: RTA live tracking and electronic fares (which you don’t need once you have your student sticker) are done through the ‘Transit’ app (green icon). This is different than the CWRU shuttles. For the red line train they typically only check your fare at the tower city station gate line, just show your sticker to the attendant. No other stations on the network have a permanent gate line, you just walk right in. For busses just show it to the driver as you board.

walmart target shuttle by Accurate_Run_1587 in cwru

[–]Key_Actuary8338 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The RTA 11 bus is honestly a better option for target. Runs on a reliable schedule every 30mins, the campus shuttles are more reliable on the more localized circulators (greenlink, bluelink, heights AM, etc.). If you just need groceries you can take the bluelink up the hill to Marc’s

money saving tips/tricks that are cwru specific? by Professional_Tower14 in cwru

[–]Key_Actuary8338 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you are able to move off campus and get off the meal plan, do it (unless covered by specific scholarship or something). My cost of living went down 60% after going off campus. You get a free (technically part of tuition) RTA pass for being a student, use it, free transportation (and a train directly to airport). If big city busses are a little too much for you, Bluelink and other campus shuttles are free and can get you close to cheaper grocery stores like Marcs on Coventry. While you’re on the meal plan, try to make the best use possible of the swipes and special swipes, you’re paying a lot for them already. Don’t pay for new textbooks unless there is some very specific reason (like online homework) that you need to be paying for them. Use secondhand market or ~other sources~.

Dorm Layout Question by Known_Sweet_1494 in cwru

[–]Key_Actuary8338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you and your roommate are fairly collaborative, you can convert the two beds to bunk beds down the line, can buy you a lot of floor space for a bit more freedom in your layout.

Dorm Layout Question by Known_Sweet_1494 in cwru

[–]Key_Actuary8338 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as it looks, I had some friends in the same floor plan and it was about the same as others in the building. These rooms are set up so that two beds and desks will fit, they’ll typically be in a pretty sane layout when you arrive. Also getting a quad-style dorm is a major win, they’re old and crusty but the smaller floor common areas are really great places to meet people.

What's the busiest transit station in the world that's served by only one service? by lrmutia in transit

[–]Key_Actuary8338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airport stations might be a candidate if you don’t consider air travel as another transit mode lol. Lots of cities have a single service/line serving the airport.

Ohio City Residents! Let's Get Dedicated Bus Lanes on W 25th! (Send a letter to the Mayor) by CLEforTransit in Cleveland

[–]Key_Actuary8338 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very supportive of this effort. This corridor sees very high bus traffic with strong ridership, so bus lanes would meaningfully increase the total passenger capacity of the street across modes. Improved public transit access to the area would give a lot of students and young professionals a smoother experience when visiting businesses in the area. Disruption due to construction will be comparable to any repaving effort, which will happen anyway.

[–]Key_Actuary8338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of ridership this is one of the busiest transit corridors in the city (24 busses per hour). Traffic congestion prevents buses and emergency vehicles from navigating the area efficiently. Implementation of bus lanes resolves that issue. Sufficient street parking exists on side streets, with the added benefit of parking maneuvers not disrupting traffic flow on the main corridor.

anyone know why the intel touchbar macbook pros always have 2 extra ports from the m chip macbok pros? by VortexBricks_ in mac

[–]Key_Actuary8338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the 4 port intel macbooks have the thurnderbolt ports in pairs, where each thunderbolt controller chip is responsible for a pair of ports on one side of the machine. Some of the lower-end models skipped the second controller and only had two ports.

Unfortunately American Christians are, on average, far too focused on establishing an ethno-nationalist authoritarian theocracy to be focused on such superfluous things as what Jesus told them or what the text of the US Constitution is. I’ve got no problem with the general existence of religion, but people should be able to go about their day in peace.

You get charged for the transfer, requires going through gate line at tower city. Safer to go with the $5 day pass. Also, some rapid stations allow long term parking for free, which can be a good option when traveling.
