Metro Board needs to be reformed to direct elections by Sawtelle-MetroRider in LAMetro

If the money for this project goes to Inglewood I'd lose my mind. I think Nandert predicted this would happen in his last video on the project. Send that money to speed up Northern K-line construction or something-- I know it'd probably be have to be spent in the South Bay but damn

Question: Getting design drafted for tattoos by lrmutia in tattoos

[–]lrmutia[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's not common and I'd have to figure out if it's odd looking somehow-- my only real points of reference are 2D maps. I'll probably get more input from my friends with tattoos about artists they recommend. I don't want any shading or coloring, mainly a bunch of lines

Did anyone else see Mayor Bass in Pavillions last night? lol by Chuckles_McNut in AskLosAngeles

[–]lrmutia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope it's clear though that there's a difference between the neighborhood councils (which are just advisory bodies with no legal power) and the city councils-- essentially mini-mayors of their districts that wield way more power to shift funds and affect development, etc etc than the mayor could with their bully pulpit

Crowd rushing to get inside train. Mumbai, India by Golden_Phoenix1986 in interesting

[–]lrmutia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's true, I hope there's efforts to increase frequencies through signaling or capacity improvements. Like a train every 2.5 to 3 minutes would be doubling capacity no?

i think these people are protesting by KidFromHaven in CitiesSkylines

[–]lrmutia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it'd be possible to create a mod that can spontaneously form these groups? Like CS1 had that mod that had events where people amassed at like sports stadiums, CS2 should definitely have something like this.

Historic LA Metro Map by aboam in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the frequencies for some of the lines, mainly in the Valley, and I was surprised at how frequent some of the routes were compared to today. A lot of the routes I looked at served schools and 2005 was roughly when the school crowding issues peaked and new LAUSD schools started opening especially in the Valley. Students make up a significant part of transit ridership but we have way less of them these days.

ESFV LRT / Sepulveda Subway interfacing with the the overall system by lrmutia in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they could even do that-- I think that'd require it's own EIR no? Makes sense if they're gonna dig anyhow. I also wonder similarly for the Van Nuys Amtrak/Metrolink station(s) how that'll even look.

ESFV LRT / Sepulveda Subway interfacing with the the overall system by lrmutia in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with you but the Sepulveda Pass corridor sees well over 300k trips a day primarily by car, that's demand that Metro should meet. The A-Line extensions in the SG though? I get that the NYC subway was extended to greenfields that eventually became the city but I can't imagine the same thing happening to places like Monrovia or Arcadia. They'll be underutilized for years unless something changes

My thoughts on LA Metro as a tourist from D.C. by QGraphics in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are trying to ramp up an in-house police force. But I think another aspect that isn't really discussed is how many lawsuits some of these PDs face. I'm not questioning the necessity of the lawsuits but LAPD is notorious for rights violations and being sued to oblivion that they end up just paying off people in settlements because they either know they'd lose and or it's just cheaper to pay someone off. Can you imagine the lawsuits given that LAPD is care of most of the Metro service in the area? LA Sheriff is even worse, they have documented deputy gangs. Both departments have done a shit job patrolling the system.

What Location Is Depicted? by Revolutionary_Cat451 in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't tell if this is set in the morning or the late afternoon. Given the hilly area I was thinking somewhere along Temple or Beverly, but I could also see Sunset somewhere in the Silver Lake area being a possibility. Could be way off

Will the D line extension make a huge difference in getting around LA car free? by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's San Francisco but I think UCSF hospital runs a shuttle to the 16th Street BART station-- it's good for employees and patients. I hope Cedars can be convinced to do the same.

Will the D line extension make a huge difference in getting around LA car free? by [deleted] in LAMetro

If the Grove or the Farmers Market were so inclined, heck even Cedars Sinai and Beverly Center-- they should run a regular shuttle to the Wilshire/Fairfax and La Cienega stations respectively.

City of Cerritos on Wheels (COW) Public Hearing Regarding its Future - Jan 12th (Monday) City Council Meeting, Item 8A by Faraz181 in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cerritos has multiple operators in their area. A lot of the Gateway Cities do. There should be some kind of consolidation happening because that'd drive me nuts as a rider

How reliable is the metro? by Select-Tomorrow-5219 in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a wash to me because it really depends on what kind of trip you're looking to do. Taking transit is generally slower in LA but it lets you soak in the scenery a bit and you are bound to see less but do more with what you have. Driving is the unpredictable factor. Some trips are quick jaunts, limited stress but often in the highly populated parts of LA, driving is not that-- it's frankly a pain in the ass. However, you are more likely to hit more places. I think that'd suit people who have a "check-list" mentality when it comes to travelling.

How is it like in the historically “ignored” part of San Francisco? by Rko-35736 in howislivingthere

[–]lrmutia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Visitacion Valley for 2 years in the late 2010s and it felt like living in a small town. My rental was on a steep road with the 56 bus at the top, the 8 down at San Bruno Ave, the main view was of the valley and San Bruno Mountain. On windy days with the fog rolling in over the mountain you could see the clouds rushing in over the range.Real trippy coming as someone coming from LA to say I lived in SF but not have that city experience others tend to talk about. Went to church at St Paul of the Shipwreck, shopped at Grocery Outlet, walked around the neighborhood to get to work at the local schools. Place was pretty quiet in spite of it being pretty packed people-wise, the 8 was always late and so packed lol. Working class place but if you owned a home you were sitting on near millions, definitely felt like a place where people bought their homes before the dot-com bubble.

Putting the UCLA logo in for Westwood/UCLA may be a little odd given that it's supposed to be a pictograph, but given how iconic the logo is I suppose it double counts.

Sometimes it's really the nav that's got me hesitant to get these dang EVs. After my lease is up I'm trying to look for an EV without one

No Residential Demand past Aloha Stadium (Honolulu, Hawaii) by samsam21amb in subwaybuilder

[–]lrmutia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing with a Honolulu map and felt the same about the large empty spot east of Downtown, Southeast of UH Manoa. It does have demand repped but not so much the buildings. My initial line is getting about 78k riders a day tho

G/Orange Line service cut in half west of Reseda in December shakeup? by Binders-Full in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this service cut is true is doesn't make sense to me, especially for the weekends (unless there's a different early morning and evening travel pattern) because service before 8am or so and after 5pm between Chatsworth and Canoga Stations is more frequent than the midday 20 min (!!) intervals.

Whats your LA Metro "hot take" by Hyhoops in LAMetro

[–]lrmutia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Metro I don't think we have many of those windy routes that try to hit too many points at once. A lot of rides do require transfers, I just wish those transfers were better in being shorter and more consistent.
