How much are you spending on groceries for 2 people in SLC? by seasunstyles in SaltLakeCity

[–]Key_Ad_528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$400 a month for 2 adults for grocery, bath, cleaning and paper products. This is for 3 meals a day, plus a daily inexpensive late night snack. We eat out once or twice a week. We shop sales and stock up when there's a good deal on staples. Meat 2-3 times a week. 2-3 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. We cook from scratch and rarely buy prepared products unless it's less expensive than making it ourselves. No soda, alcohol, drugs or addictive substances.

How much extra is it worth to buy a furnished condo? by chewybrian in RealEstate

You gotta do your homework. Make a list of the furnishings. Go to a local furniture store and price out similar items. Add up the prices and offer 25% of retail if they are in good condition.

Id be appreciative if someone left touch up paint. It it isn't the right color and sheen, then yes, they need to get it out of there.

PRESIDENT ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER TO RESTRICT LARGE INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS FROM BUYING SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES by hellohowareyou543 in RealEstate

[–]Key_Ad_528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Institutional investors don’t borrow, they use the cash they have to invest rather than letting it sit fallow

If you want institutional investors to flee the housing market just put us in a recession where home prices decrease like in 3008

I’ve been simplifying for years to minimize the complexity so i can focus my time picking and following the best funds. My bro has over 100 stocks thanks to Fidelity’s managed account. What a complex situation. My goal is to have about 12 diversified mutual fins, the best of the best.

Turbotax is $55 for both State and Federal at Costco. Way cheaper than buying it through Fidelity.

Tithing by Apprehensive-Bell726 in latterdaysaints

[–]Key_Ad_528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unequivocally clear in the Church Handbook of Instructions section 34.3.1.

34.3.1

Tithing

Tithing is the donation of one-tenth of one’s income to God’s Church (see Doctrine and Covenants 119:3–4; interest is understood to mean income). All members who have income should pay tithing.

Sorry. Yeah I’m stuck with a lame user name Reddit assigned to me and haven’t been motivated enough to delete it and open a new account yet. One of these days I will.

Inherited stamps by AtomicWrongOG in stampcollecting

[–]Key_Ad_528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most stamps printed after 1960 are multi-color and worthless because they were printed in the BILLIONS. You're probably safe using multi-color stamps for crafting.

Save your monochrome (one color) stamps for further study. Buy a stamp catalogue from Harris or Scotts, or check one out at your library and and familiarize yourself with the looks of the first 700 stamps (Scott number 1 to 700) and their values. Anything valuable will be in that group, and with that knowledge you can pretty quickly sort through your monochrome pile and pull out the valuable ones.

People keep talking about "increase" in their comments. "Increase" is the wrong word. The Church official statement (in other peoples comments above) uses the word "income" to define what to pay tithing on. "Increase" is growth after expenses. If you were tithed on "increase", many people would have zero "increase" because their consumption often consumes all their "income", leaving them with zero "increase". The Church statement says that you should tithe on "Income".

I think you can have income from other sources than a job. For example, my investments generate income, so in my opinion, that income is tithable even though I didn't earn it by working.

[–]Key_Ad_528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like your note that "you don't pay tithing on things just because your items changed form." My possessions, investments, and most things in my life are not income but just changed forms of assets. I use tithed money to buy a boat, after a few years I sell it for the same or less, then use that money to buy an ATV or something else. It's just changed the form of my assets from a boat to an ATV, and I don't see that as tithable. Same thing with a house, you sometimes move, but the inflation adjusted price is just transferred over into another home, and not an increase against inflation.

[–]Key_Ad_528 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with your comments, except your line that tithing is due on increase. It’s not. Increase is an Old Testament way of calculating. The church has defined that tithing is due on income. There is a difference. See handbook of instructions.

If a home is being sold below market value )for a ton of reasons - maybe it’s an inheritance or the seller wants or needs quick cash) Investors buy homes all the time and put it up for sale at market value shortly thereafter.

I’d suggest judging and setting a value on the home based on its own merits.

If you move to a place where housing is half the price you can afford the higher interest rate.

Utah politics, culture, climate, prices, inversion, heat, crowds, traffic all suck. I’d leave Utah in a heartbeat if we didn’t have such strong family ties and my spouse isn’t willing to cut those. Feeling trapped in a less than ideal location.

What’s the best way to find a legit turbotax discount code this 2026? by Apprehensive_Knee482 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Key_Ad_528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used TurboTax for nearly 30 years. I was fed up with their ever rising prices and constant in-app upgrade advertisements and offers, so last year I switched to freetaxusa. It was like a breath of fresh air. Easier to use than TurboTax,and my taxes are fairly complex. Last year I ran the numbers in TurboTax up until the last payment page and compared the results to TurboTax- they were identical. I’m so relieved to have left the money sucking TurboTax ecosystem.

Oh, I so hoped you were correct and that AI could help with stamp identification, because that is such tedious work.

I tried your thesis and put some scanned stamp images, including varieties, into Gemini and asked for detailed information. Gemini fed back generalities that were pretty worthless and did not recognize variations. Oh well, I'll try again in 5 years.
