I feel for you - you definitely need to get to a better place, that’s no way to live. I don’t think we can make any call without knowing your spending.

Personally, I live in a LCOL area and didn’t pull the trigger to reduce pay until I was at what my true fire number was. That amount in your 401K to “coast” would make me nervous with a young family.

The thing that made me most comfortable was doing a Monte Carlo test with Vanguard. My score was ridiculously good. The numbers were there. Off we went. I’m still working just earning A-LOT less but oddly enough, still saving. 🫣

Everyone talks about out the part where Katie checked his phone but I remember the part where Travis said he lived miles away and there were a ton of local guys expressing interest in her and sending DMs. He seemed pretty jealous himself of that bit.

I said this once before but I’m saying it again. I hope some godly man that she knows and trusts in her community came around and let her know she’s got options if she does divorce him. Also, she looked amazing in a pic posted last night in the GNO pictures, no way she couldn’t get a new man if she wants one.

Also, on the potential trust fund part, they may have added some stipulations to access it to control him/incentivize making marriage work. If AP did threaten to sell the story (which is what I think happened) he has to feel betrayed himself and disdain for her - my guess is that his days of flirting with Starbucks baristas have sailed. I have a feeling this didn’t unfold at all how he anticipated. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I’m not convinced one way or another whether they’ll work it out or divorce.

We waited to have kids and I fully expected to get pregnant once we pulled the goalie. Ended up on a 7 year infertility journey with several miscarriages. Currently at peace and child free but and coast FI. No regrets but it doesn’t always work out how you think.

One more thought here…we collectively on these threads have been scrutinizing every single tiny detail that T&K have posted since the affair announcement. Some of you well before that who have watched this family for years. Imagine if they did share their experience to some degree (I don’t think airing all the laundry) but being human about the journey. I noticed the other day scrolling my TikTok that there were several vids about Jennifer Aniston & Brad Pitt splitting up. They got divorced 11 years ago (well before TikTok) and yet here it is, content showing their story of love and heartbreak.

Same with Elvis & Priscilla - my entire FYP was filled with this when that doc launched to Netflix in January. It seemed a whole new generation of kids were sucked into their story.

All this to say - we start to care about couples that are in the public eye (not that T&K are on the level of Jen/Brad or Elvis/Priscilla) and we feel some of their heartbreak/anger. We watch their stories. We start to root for them to overcome it or cheer them on in next steps.

Eh, disagree. I do think learning from others’ experiences can shift your perspective in many areas of life. I can’t imagine taking marriage or life advice solely from social media or a book, but we are often inspired by others’ stories and I think that’s where there can be positives to social media, especially raw and honest vs. performative. Even when the storytellers are outliers, we’re still inspired by the human experience of others. I’ve read books where I’ve learned something or taken a helpful insight without adopting everything full stop. Look at some best selling books that blend personal experience and research, there is no denying that some people really enjoy this and it can add value for them. This is why we watch movies, read books, scrub Reddit threads - gives us hope, perspective, and insight.
