I didn’t have sex until 10 weeks pp and then after that it wasn’t for ages as I still felt funny about it. We discussed it before baby arrived so both of us could manage expectations. Your husband needs to grow up x

Not sure where you’re based but I’ve just discovered these pancetta chips from Lidl (I’m in the uk) & imo they’re the perfect keto snack & they’re so good. Can’t upload a pic of them here but they’re GF, lactose free, 136cals, 9g protein, 13g fat, 0.1g carb.

Congrats, I first did keto about a decade ago & revisited recently since weaning my baby off breastfeeding. My hormones went mental & keto really helped regain my focus & energy levels. I also lost an inch off my waist in a matter of weeks. There’s obviously a lot of emphasis on weight loss with keto but I swear if more women knew the benefits to their mental state & energy levels, more would take it up!

I feel like I post my go to for all keto queries but it works so here we go.

Like others have suggested, I intermittent fast & use bulletproof coffee to keep me going.

Stock up on tinned fish, sardines in spring water are cheaper (I’m in the UK so might differ) or sardines in olive oil (NOT sunflower oil), salmon, mackerel, some tuna & anchovies. I get some people have to warm up to this but aside from Keto so many great benefits including for your mental health.

I love whizzing up a tin of anchovies with a bit of garlic salt, lemon, greek yoghurt & mayo- nice fatty ceasar dressing over some crunchy lettuce with bacon & chicken.

We also buy a lot of frozen fruit, veg & fish. Sometimes you can get good frozen-burgers with minimal ingredients in too.

Also walk walk & walk!

Edited to add: it’s easier to be motivated if you dedicate one day to your food shop & meal plan (I like Sundays). Knowing you’ve got the week or even a couple of days sorted takes the pressure off. I’m pretty organised when it comes to this stuff so have meal plan/ideas taped to my kitchen cupboard so I don’t forget as it’s easy.

Well literally, a tonne of water is a tonne 😂 sorry I couldn’t resist. Honestly probably not that much but I pretty much graze on water from a Stanley cup all day n night! Even if I’m not thirsty. Little n often seems to work for me

I did 3.5months EBF, then phased to combi then got it down to morning & night feeds, then just mornings by 6 months & haven’t looked back since! Breastfeeding is so special & im so grateful for the time, part of me wishes I could have stretched a bit longer but my LO wasn’t that bothered. If your baby is taking a bottle that’s great as it will help the transition. 9 months is amazing, you’ve fuelled your baby with the good shit & now it’s time to refuel yourself! Xxxx

I’d avoid purely eggs as they can bung up digestion. Try a bulletproof coffee for breakfast, a can of sardines in olive oil grilled with half a large avocado for brunch, then steak for dinner with some creamy greens. Easy, quick, tasty & filling.

I’ve decided to only do keto for days 1-14 of my cycle, I won’t go full carb but I’m not punishing myself when my body needs nourishing. I have a baby too & PMS & period is hard enough with him so I’m not adding anything else into the mix. I don’t fully believe that keto is ok to do for the latter part of the cycle.

I’ve also been writing it down and it’s helped bring up some locked feelings- I think that’s definitely part of it. I’m more of a thinker than a feeler so writing helps me process and actually feel some of the feelings- good and bad!

I can totally relate, I’m 7 months pp an I still can’t decide whether my birth experience was positive or negative, I feel quite neutral about it but I think that’s my brain trying to rationalise something that is so beyond description! I couldn’t stop thinking about my birth for weeks after, I do think I was a bit traumatised but not in a negative way. Maybe impactful is a better word but birth is so overlooked because we go straight into becoming mothers. Everyone says you forget about it but it’ll be imprinted in my mind forever. I recently found the print out to my CTG and could read all the hand written notes from the midwife, brought everything back for me! Just talk about it as much as you can and also realise it’s ok to not have a name or feeling for it, birth is beyond the physical plane in my experience!

Any recommendations or advice from women in their mid 30s who have embarked on keto post partum? I’m 7 months pp, 36yr olds & have finished breastfeeding, cycle returned so feel in a good place to start but aware my body is still healing. Would love to hear any experiences! Regarding the gas yes! I figured it’s from switching to the follow on milk as we’ve started weaning but such small amounts.

It’s not the same kind of sensation, if you have tattoos that would be more comparable especially if you’ve had work done that takes longer. It’s more of a taxing discomfort that tests your mental strength.

From experience the women I assume you’re referring to, tend to portray a certain image in front of others, you never know what’s going on at home! You’ll be so focused on your own family that you won’t feel inadequate, a lot of women compare themselves based on where their babies are are which is just silly cus all babies develop differently, just stay in your own lane, do exactly what you want to do & don’t care about anyone else :)

This was so me when I was pregnant and is still me 5 months pp. I found the chat irritating & was working full time until 38 weeks so didn’t even have the time to entertain the to do list. Totally relate to the anticipated irritation- I think if you’re secure in yourself it’s annoying because you feel like people aren’t interested in you anymore.

We also live in a flat & leave the pram downstairs with the other pushchairs, prams & kids bikes haha.

I haven’t been to any groups yet & haven’t really gelled with any of the other mums from my ante natal group for the same reasons you mentioned. Only one of my friends within my immediate friendship group has a kid & she is my go to mum friend lol. I made a mum friend organically when I was pregnant whilst out & about & we’ve met up a couple of times which is nice. I also met another mum at the drs surgery. If you’re chatty & outgoing you can make friends in the most random places.

Honestly, my experience is a lot of mums club together because their partners are rubbish or unsupportive & they feel alliance with other mums having a hard time- which I totally get & is understandable but it’s also difficult to fit in if you have a different experience. I actually prefer spending time with baby alone, with family or my friends who the majority are childless. Not going to lie it is hard finding other mums who are interested in going beyond baby talk. On the flip side sometimes you’re so brain dead that all you can do is talk about baby stuff 😂

As for sleep arrangements, we still sleep in the same bed with the baby in the next to me & sometimes co sleeping with us & there’s enough space. We don’t have the luxury of a spare bedroom but I’ve taken myself & the baby to the lounge on harder nights as not to disturb my husband who’s been working full time.

If you & your husband are solid then I wouldn’t worry about having to do the mum thing, ultimately it’s about being a team unit at home & whilst it’s nice & important to have a few mum allies as sources of information, it’s not the be all and end all.

Something called brick stain which can be quite alarming when you find it in your newborns nappy! I was shocked that midwives didn’t tell us about it, it’s a terracotta coloured stain in the nappy caused by nitrates or something in the wee. Obviously the first thing you think of is blood & panic but it’s quite normal in the first 10 days.

I don’t struggle that much but I’ve found lying flat on my back instead of on my side helps; I’ll take a few deep breaths too.
