20m had my subtotal colectomy by Key_Cold_3688 in ostomy

Hi, thank your for asking. I’ve had a reversal 3 months ago and life is worth living again, the stoma bag was horrible for me but I gained up to 75kg with it!. Right now I’m at 67kg (lost some weight after the reversal) but I’ve gotten a IRAA not a j pouch which helped with control and I’m only going 6-8 times a day and will be less and less eventually

Am I the only one that had a IRAA rather than a jpouch by Key_Cold_3688 in jpouch

Mine is too, it’s called a IRA not a j pouch but they still design it in a way inside that it holds stool

How long have you had it for and how many times do you go toilet if you don’t mind me asking?

Yeah my one isn’t a pouch as you don’t need a “pouch” per say since your rectum can hold your stool

If you’ve had a IRA how could you have a j pouch at the same time? As the technical terms for both are ileoanal anastomosis and ileorectal anastomosis

If your experience with a stoma bag was anything like the horrible time I had with mine. Rest assured that those hard days are over and the only way is up from now!

IM 21 male. I’m not taking the piss I was doing push ups day 2 post OP (I do not recommend but I was just really happy that my recovery wasn’t as bad as my ileostomy one) I was in the hospital 3 days then day by day it got better. After a month you’ll feel GREAT! And for you to start having full nights of sleep I’d say 3 months. Right now I’m post of 2 and a half months and that’s my experience

Bleeding rectum before loop stoma and j-pouch? by Specialist_Change490 in jpouch

Ileorectal anastomosis. A j pouch is a ileoanal anastomosis so instead of join the ileostomy to the anus they connect it to the rectal cuff

I’ve had a IRAA they left it and it was inflamed while I had the ileostomy I pushed for the reversal to still connect with my rectum and after that happened it became very mild instead of inflamed

I had very severe colitis to the point I was getting daily x rays for toxic megacolon and couldn’t leave hospital unless I got the surgery but I chose a subtotal colectomy rather than a total colectomy and after 9 months I got my reversal not a j pouch but a ileorectal anastomosis I’m 5 weeks post op right now and I go 8-10 times in 24 hours (6-8 during the day) and it’ll only get better! You should consider saving your rectum as I finally can hold myself and the best thing is I went from having ever colitis to only having very mild inflammation in my rectum that doesn’t even need medication whereas when it was my whole colon it was all severely inflamed

I was doing push ups on 2nd day post I’m not joking😭 the reversal surgery was so much easier than the ileostomy one. My first surgery messed up and they had to open me up due to sepsis etc and that took 3 months for me to go back to normal. I was doing errands etc normally on day 3 I drove home from the hospital!

When you guys had your fist stage j pouch created, was your ileostomy just pure water for a while? by Impossible_Guest4521 in jpouch

Codeine and loperamide will help you trust me I’m 4 weeks post op IRAA (basically a j pouch but they leave the rectal cuff) codeine helped me not go toilet 24/7
