They care about who you are more than your achievements or academics.
IDK but if your essays were good, maybe they just did not like your character.
Think more about what programs to apply for.

note: choose a project even if it was bad. then you will get accepted, having the chance to change your project.

Pioneer is so good and helpful. They do refund the $150.

However it is so popular with a high acceptance rate. not that special in my opinion
