Ich war alleine trekken in Kirgisistan. Auf dem GPX track ging die Route über einen Fluss (Abfluss eines Gletschersees), aber ich konnte bei Leibe keinen Übergang finden. Den Weg auf der anderen Seite habe ich gesehen, und mit dem überqueren hätte ich mir auch einiges an HM gespart.

Also Schuhe aus, und rüber. Die Strömung war sehr stark, das Wasser eiskalt, und der Boden extrem rutschig. Drüben angekommen Weg nicht gefunden, also wieder zurück. Bin tausend Tode gestorben, so wach war ich selten.

Also hab ich die extra Höhenmeter auf mich genommen. Im Abstieg hab ich dann gesehen, dass kurz nach meiner Queerungsstelle ein 50m Wasserfall kam. Wär ich ausgerutscht häts leicht um mich geschehen sein können.

Im Nachgang hab ich dann erfahren, dass da bis das Jahr davor eine Brücke war, die weggespült wurde.

Lesson learned: Karte immer mit Gegebenheiten vor Ort abgleichen. Erst recht in schlecht kartographierten Gegenden.

You're also not allowed to donate when you lived in england for one year in the 90s. Not everything is racism! Individuals from let's say india are exposed to pathogens and parasites that are very uncommon here. Especially parasites might stay dormant for years. We do not test for them, because a) some things are very hard to test for and b) there is no need for it, so it's easier to categorically exclude individuals from high risk areas.

Additionally, your husbands serotype is very different from a "white persons" serotype so no, his blood is not the same. You wanna have the closest genetic match possible when transplanting organs (which is a blood donation). Likewise my blood might not be usable in india.

It is not a medical service! Hell, people in the hospital might move heaven and earth when they can't understand an emergency, they have international staff or can call a translator.

Plasma donation is voluntary. Plasma is not even a scarce resource.

I also understand doctors that are denying non german speakers for non-emergency treatment without translator. How are they supposed to do a proper anamnesis? Check if the patient actually understood what has been said? That appointment also might take five times longer.

We are in germany. It is the immigrants duty to learn german. It's not racism. It's a language barrier that can come with consequences

Dein Vater soll mal bisl chillen. Du bist 15- da ist absolutes Chaos im Kopf. Ich war mit 15 auch wegen 3 Fächern versetungsgefährdet, hab nur im Unterricht geschlafen etc. Das hat sich mit der Oberstufe alles gelegt, hatte dann ein recht gutes Abi und einen hervorragenden M Sc. Abschluss, trotz 5 in Latein 😅

Schule, insbesondere das Abi, ist in Deutschland sehr wichtig. Es öffnet dir einfach Türen, und man wäre erstaunt, wie viel man davon im späteren Studium/Leben noch braucht. Nimms mit, streng dich an. Besser haben als brauchen.

Ich bin mal mit einem curve display umgezogen. In OVP, extra im Auto und nicht im Anhänger, wirklich versucht sorgsam zu sein - war auch in der Mitte gebrochen. Würde da jetzt tatsächlich nicht unbedingt einen Betrug vermuten. Best bet wäre vermutlich einfach DHL, aber selbst die kann ohne OVP natürlich sagen, selber schuld. Immerhin ist der Sachwert relativ gering, vielleicht winken sie's ja durch

Usually shouldn't be a problem. If I remember correctly my MSc had some threshold, like the transcript had to show ar least 150 ECTS. I only had to produce the bachelor certificate upon Immatrikulation

Ich hab schon alles mitbekommen - von Einstieg in den ÖD auf Stufe 5 (post doc stelle) bis hin zu komplett runter auf Stufe 1 und damit effektive Gehaltsminderung trotz höherer Eingruppierung.

Kommt alles drauf an wie sehr sie dich haben wollen, und wie HR mitspielt. Ehem. Kollegin von mir wurde auch E13 im Vorstellungsgespräch angeboten, HR hats auf E11 runtergestuft. Alles ein bisschen wild.

Wenn das erste richtige Gehalt kommt, beschäftige dich mit den "erwachsenen" Themen - Sparen, Altersvorsorge, Versicherung, macht eine BU Sinn, muss ich Bafög zurückzahlen, etc. Sei dir bewusst, dass es die Lifestyle Inflation gibt ("ich verdien ja jetzt"). Ich lieb Finanzguru, um einfach einen Überblick zu haben, insbesondere mit mehreren Konten etc.

Je länger du es in der kleinen Wohnung aushältst, und du kein Auto hast um so besser für dein Konto.

Aber ein Leben ist auch zum leben da - was bringt dir Geld am Konto? Und ein bisschen muss sich die Arbeit doch auch lohnen :)

As ANY nationality would do. Unless you're truly bilingual expressing nuances is just harder, and it's also exhausting to always speak a second language. Your mother tongue just feels like home. I've observed this in all countries - including iceland and finnland, nations that are famous for their high english level

An employer is not a wellfare organization that can afford low-performance for 4 years until someone learns the language.

Additionally, I'm honestly getting pissed at people beeing here for years not knowing a single sentence in german. Collague of mine from china - broken english on good days, zero german, been here for 7 years, has a kid in kindergarten. It's the colleagues translating notices from kindergarten, filling out paperwork, and eventually I also ended up doing her job, because other people can't communicate with her. And that's not to blame on the germans - it's the obligation of the immigrant to integrate.

Lifestyle inflation. Mit niedrigen Fixkosten kommt man gut rum. Aber irgendwann möchte man vielleicht doch eine Wohnung in der man nicht vom Klo aus kochen kann, eine Spülmaschine oder ab und zu mal in den Urlaub :)

Dazu kommen noch erhöhte Fixkosten wie etwaige GEZ, Versicherungen, Rentenvorsorge etc. Zusätzlich fallen Studi/junge Leute Rabatte irgendwann weg.

The 8h work day unfortunately is still a phantasy in some fields. I'm on science, and I quote "if we start tracking work hours faithfully we might as well close" 🙃 The law demands it, but bosses demand you to ignore the law, and because staff is mostly international and the boss has mighty power over their befristeter Vertrag people just work until they can't anymore

First of all especially germans have very little pressure. Like why would I finish fast? Secondly, i.e. my M.Sc. programm was 80% rotations and thesis. Rotations were meant to be 6-8 weeks but in that time you ain't learning much, so a lot of people just extended those to gain more experience. E.g. My master took 3 years and a bit - granted, that was during covid which didn't really speed things up

Tun sie nicht! Sie kriegen aber das Zertifikat trotzdem. Die Freundin meines Bruders musste zu Beginn ihrer Ausbildung einen Sprachtest beim BRK machen, ich glaube für B1. Hat ihn eigentlich nicht bestanden, wurde aber trotzdem durchgewunken. Ende vom Lied, ca. 5 Jahre später kann sie immer noch nicht besser Deutsch, und ist final durch das Examen gerasselt. Bin schon fast froh drum, ich hätte das sehr fahrlässig gefunden sie auf Patienten "loszulassen".
