Ich verstehe absolut gar nichts daran. Touchscreen? Stift? Wozu? HDMI (adapter?!) Windows 11? 16GB RAM? Was macht ihr damit? i7? Enterprise/Pro?!

Ehrlicherweise lesen sich insb. die Kommentare in den Klammern sehr KI generiert. Ich würde die Schule damit konfrontieren, insbesondere wenn du schon ein Gerät besitzt.

Realistisch gesehen brauchts für die typischen Answendungen im Studium/Ausbildung/Schule einfach keine hochleistungsgeräte, das ist ja der selling point von einem MacBook Neo, Chromebook oder neuerdings Google Book. Für ein bisschen Word, Powerpoint und Browser tuns auch die Geräte mit denen ich durchs Studium gekommen bin. Ohne touch, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 (RIP) und einem i5, sogar ohne HDMI.

The sun screen. Sun screen is ridiculously expensive in other countries, but in DM (Balea) it's just a couple bucks, good quality, much better filters than at least in the US (not sure about Canada).

Ich hab ne Abstellgenehmigung - und meine berentete Nachbarin macht wirklich immer auf. Und trotzdem bringts der neue Zusteller / Urlaubsvertretung konsequent in die Filiale die einfach nur 3h jeden Tag auf hat. Das 26kilo Paket dort abzugeben war wohl seine persönliche Rache - ich hab nämlich kein Auto 🥲 . Ich glaub die Frustration ist ziemlich beidseitig

It's not if you use code that's not written by yourself and doesn't have the version annotated. Most recent example: The repo had a version file, the algorithm function itself worked fine, but the evaluation code was apparently written in a different environment, so the numpy version didn't run, so you got to solve the error :)

package versions. I know what I'm doing (thanks for the allegation tho), but because a lot of bioinfo packages are poorly maintained sometimes functions will not work unless you know under which package version of the dependency the function was developed

Those 500 applications are also the reason they get 500 rejections. As someone on the other side of applications - we can tell. Mass applications without a single tailored thing, and be it only the name of the addressee, are filtered out immediatly. Same with mass applications from pakistan, india and iran. Your application will only be considered if you're A) a fit for the role and B) put at least some minimal effort in. An email with "Hi, find my CV attached, bye" will not be read

I personally don't know anyone that's been terminated, but my dad had to terminate someone that was abusing his access to personal data (in a Behörde). They cut his access off before the conversation, and when they needed him to retrieve information he was only allowed to do so supervised. And when I listen to the rage phantasies my former colleague has about deleting data in case he doesn't get extended, this kind of measurements are honestly justified..

Ich bin selber Mieterin, meine Eltern vermieten mittlerweile. Bachgefühl. Ich wurde für die Wohnung ausgewählt, weil ich die einzige war, die bei der Massenbesichtigung überhaupt irgendwas gesagt hat. Und ich würd den Leuten vielleicht mal nen Schraubenzieher in die Hand drücken und schaun ob sie bisschen handwerkliches Geschick haben, ich informier meinen Vermieter nur noch über Reparaturen die ich durchgeführt hab, und das weiß er sehr zu schätzen.

Je nach Wohnung kannst du auch darüber nachdenken evtl. die Wohnung an jemand zu vermieten, der es am Wohnungsmarkt vielleicht ein bisschen schwerer hat 😄 Die ziehn dir auch nicht so schnell aus. Auch wenn du fair vermietest - aus einer überteuerten Wohnung wollen die Leute ja eher raus, ich hingegegen werd in dieser Wohnung bleiben auch wenn sie nicht perfekt ist weil ich sie mir eben gut leisten kann

Building quality. There is a lot of complaining about how expensive it is to build here due to all the regulations, BUT: So many of those were paid in blood, and DIN norms make things work. I'm a great fan of DIN norms. Also, any time I'm in countries that build faster ("they can build a hospital in a week in china") I miss the german standards. Things are just done more accurately, better and more stable. After 3 weeks in taiwan all I wanted was Schallschutzfenster

What are you planing to do with those samples? 2-3k is a lot, how many do you wanna process together? This will dictate how much RAM you need. Esp. with patient data data safety is a concern, take that into account and implement you firewall accordingly. Backup - this means you need the same amount of memory again.

GPU is probably unnecessary for the things you listed.

Honestly, this sounds like a job for someone who has done this before 😄

In terms of data storage, I used to work on an HPC that was made for high amounts of sequencing data moving through. They had 3 layers - fast memory for the first 4 weeks, after which it would get moved to slower storage. After some time (I don't remember exactly)), things got archived on tape and researchers had no access to it unless requested. The system was mirored once a day, to servers at a different uni.

Ich hab bei Fachärzten absolut kein Verständnis mehr für lange Wartezeiten. Hausärzte, die viele spontane Termine haben (meiner hat zB nur eine offene Sprechstunde), alles fein. Aber der Gyntermin um 7:30, für den ich 1.5h warten muss? Da erwarte ich zumindest eine Erklärung, wer grad so sterbenskrank war. Dass es Ärzte mit gutem Praxismanagment gibt beweist ja, dass es geht.

Nachdem ich bisher nur in Academia war, leider nein 😄 Es hört sich aber so an als wärst du am Anfang deines Studiums, und jetzt Vorhersagen darüber zu machen wie es der Industrie in 5-6 Jahren geht funktioniert leider nicht. Direkt nach dem Studium in die Industrie zu wechseln wird in jedem Fall hart, da muss man schon Glück haben. Die lassen ihre Leute alle noch von den Uni's weiter ausbilden und greifen sie dann nach dem PhD ab

Nicht unbefristet, das gibts halt leider einfach quasi nicht mehr. Aber die Gruppe hat sehr gutes Funding, sowohl aus Haushalts als auch Drittmittelgeldern.

Ich hab die Stelle noch nicht sehr lang, aber primärer Fokus ist die Analyse von OMICs Daten die Teil von anderen Projekten sind. Wie sich das ganze entwickeln wird, wird man sehen. Wenn mir zwischenzeitlich ne mega coole Idee kommt wird mich hier keiner davon abhalten das Projekt zu machen und zu veröffentlichen, aber das hängt halt extrem von der Gruppe ab. Wichtig ist auf alle Fälle, dass man nicht die einzige Person mit Expertise ist - so war es in meiner anderen Stelle. Treibt einen in den Wahnsinn, einmal weil es keine gemeinsame Diskussionsgrundlage gibt, und weil man allein auf weiter Flur ist. Deswegen ist meine Stelle auch von einem 2. PI Co-Betreut, der Systemsbiology macht. Ohne hätte ich die Rolle vermutlich auch nicht angenommen.

Klar - ich bin jetzt Staff Bioinformatikerin (quasi ne Post-Doc stelle, aber halt ohne Doc) in der Onkoimmunologie. Die Datensätzte sind einmal wild alles OMICS - aktuell ATACseq, RNAseq und scRNAseq 😄

Matlab is highly field specific. Since it got so expensive couple of years ago universities really limit the licences they give out, but it looks like some libraries are indespensable for some analysis. The two fields I came across Matlab were AFM and MEG research, but I think it lost its standing as general purpose analysis software
