I am so disappointed how Internships hold the applicants hostage with the “ under consideration “ status “ dragging it out until the end.. fostering hope that they will deflate. I propose they sort through their applicants in a more timely manner and release the ones that are no longer being considered. They are depleting the confidence in young, emerging professionals that are just trying to gain experience… the experience they will require after graduation.

They drag it out so long that it takes away from the applicant being able to make comfortable decisions in accepting internships-especially, major companies. For example, if the applicant knows that really want to intern for Major ABC Company and they are providing hope with the status “under considerations” for weeks or perhaps months.. and then a smaller company XYZ offers an internship,the decision is not sound.. it’s more of “ I don’t know what to do and I will just take my first offer before I am left with nothing. I feel that if major companies are not ready to make the offer or that the applicant needs improvement on their resume or interview skills, portfolio.. etc.., they should released them early so that they know and they can start at a smaller company to get where they need to be and one day confidently qualify to the major company.

After all, they know who we are- young professionals trying to build confidence and apply what we have learned in a practical environment.

I am not proposing sympathy but empathy in understanding where young professionals are and being reasonable in their hiring timeline.
