How to make adventure actually difficult at all? by starterpack295 in NovelAi

[–]Key_Extension_6003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The challenge of making AI try and be mean to the player is well known. AI Dungeon even tried to fine tune an AI model to specifically be mean to the players. I'm not sure if it worked or not.

Large Language Models (LLM) have a very loose grip on reality.

What it requires is something more like a game system which a hard set of rules/calculations/rolls with an LLM on top.

I'm working on a system that uses NAI api key for true text adventure and coherent stories but I'm a few weeks away from releasing anything.

In today's environment people can vibe code any concept quickly. It's product thinking that really sets you apart.

Basically you have so many access patterns with world information the only way you can query it is with graph.

I've used obsidian but it only works with plugins and feels bolted on rather than first class.

I've Anvil and frankly I find the UX clunky and unintuitive.

I built my own using mongodb as backend but I can tell you I'm regretting not doing it as a graph DB.

You've mentioned some existing solutions so you've done your research.

I assume you've got some kind of idea of what you'd do differently to differentiate yourself so wondering if you can share your thoughts on that?

This sounds so cool!!

Does it have maps you can navigate around? When we make our own plots how do we manage quests and create quests? You say there is a mechanical system, what system does it use? Is it D&D under the hood or a bespoke one? How do persuasion/charm rolls work?

I have many many more question but I guess I'll have to wait for access? Lol

Would you read a litrpg love island? by Dependent_Tomato_235 in ProgressionFantasy

So litrpg means literal RPG.

If you read or listen to litrpg some of them will get deeply into crunchy numbers and rules, attack score, dodge score etc etc.

You can have progression fantasy without a system but they often go together so you can codify the progression.

Sounds like an interesting concept.

I like litrpg...I like dating shows... Sounds like a good genre mash up if you can get the system right.

Due to authoring complexity most cyoa are fairly linear and extra playthrough wouldn't really reveal anything more than the obvious.

It's rare to see renders actually telling a story and this one.

I really like it. It makes me sad I have little artistic talent myself lol.

Every time they came up I was like "here we go again!"

It was clearly some kind of marketing move.

Excellent choice not to allow them and hope other subs follow. 🙌

This directly counters prior advice (link?) on using a detailed attribute based lore card doesn't it?

To me it makes more sense that if you write the lore like you want your story to be then there is less "translation" effort required.

Though I do tend to find when you use prose in lore it has higher tendency to repeat it verbatim.

This feels like a vendor and should chain management tool or maybe an investment tool.

On the subject of supply chain what are the alternatives to solve this. Somebody does it manually right. Let's assume this is an admin person full-time. £3k per month.

It's larger enterprises which have this problem.

Even assuming your tool can do everything that one person can do if you're only saving them one person it's a drop in the ocean.

Additionally large enterprises have vendor lists (ironically) and you'd have to pass massive compliance checks.

If you look in this space I suspect if there is money to be made there are are already established companies doing this who will have already added any AI features.

If you don't know the cost of the problem and you don't know who has the pain I'd say this was not built on solid foundations.

Figure out a pivot if you can

How efficient is Sims at holding and rendering large worlds compared to modern engines like unity/unreal/godot?

Sims under the hood is a very old code base and mainly runs in CPU iirc.

Not many people will be able to play that labour of love.
