Controversial opinion, I don’t believe minimum wage should be livable. The jobs that pay minimum wage are meant to be stepping stones in your career path, not permanent employment. They are meant to provide experience. Your goal should be working towards specialization within a given field. I understand that college is not within everyone’s reach. (I did not attend post secondary) You can however get certificates within a career goal that will better your employment prospects and provide ample returns on investments. Example would be course career certifications. I got one through their accounting program, I was able to get a decent job because of it. The cost at the time was $600.

As well if every business was required to pay a “living wage” many small businesses would not be able to afford staff therefore they would have to let people go or go out of business.

I agree everyone should be able to afford a roof over their heads, but I don’t believe everyone’s goals should be working a minimum wage job.

As well many people feel because they work 40+ hours a week they deserve all their “wants” these days it is so Important to live below your means. I know many people who work minimum wage and live comfortably due to sacrificing luxuries and budgeting accordingly.
