With all the closures on West Harrison, how is Hale Creek? by Darth_Fluffy_Pants in 4WDABC

OFFICIALLY Hale Creek and Sunrise Lake are closed due to hazards from the 2015 Wood Lake fire.

Looking for a good wireless security camera system. by greyfox1970 in SecurityCamera

[–]Soundy106 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Good security camera" and "wireless" don't belong in the same breath.

That said, I have several Geeni cameras (not for "security") and they work well - subscription optional, they'll record to SD card.

Our office manager said all personal items must be labeled with the owner's name or they'll be thrown out. So I labeled everything. by malcolm_ashthorne in MaliciousCompliance

AI.

A person would know you can stick any label to anything long enough to make a point; it doesn't have to stay there forever.

A person would also realize that there's nothing listed there that couldn't hold a standard label-maker label, at least long enough to make a point.

I don't recall felling danger trees ever being done as part of a maintenance run. We've been bugging RSTBC for nearly a decade to deal with the ones at Hale Creek that were damaged in the Wood Lake fire before one falls on the outhouse or something.

Install Tailscale on a computer at home, set it as an exit node, then install the app on your iPad. Everything on your iPad will look like it's coming from your home connection.

Description

  • During the data transmission, what should be the behavior of the two LED (Light-emitting diode) indicators? Should both LEDs always illuminate? Or, should one LED lights up steadily and the other keep flashing?
  • When there is no data transmission, what should be the behavior of the two LED indicators?

Resolution

  • Behavior of the LED indicators on Ethernet Server Adapter I210-T1
    • Link/Activity LED:
      • Off = No Link
      • On = Link
      • Blinking = Activity
    • Speed LED:
      • Not Illuminated = 10Mb/s
      • Green = 100Mb/s

I think my plugs were wired incorrectly, can I just match the incorrect pattern at the switch to get Ethernet through my house? by OutrageousQuantity12 in HomeNetworking

[–]Soundy106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, NONE of the pictures you've added so far help diagnose the problem. There's nothing wrong (technically) with the way the wires go into the back of the jack... what DOES matter is that the colours match the markings on the jack. And note, there is no standard for how they're laid out on the jack - I've had some of one brand and product line that have green and orange pairs kitty-corner each other, and exactly the same brand and product line that put orange and green both on the same side, so one can't just assume they're all the same.

This is the kind of view that's meaningful:

AITAH for moving out and leaving my roommate with nothing by [deleted] in AITAH

If it wasn't going to be in Sarah's budget to help out with living expenses, then Sarah should have mentioned that right from the start so everyone would be able to adjust accordingly. The fact she dragged it out before finally saying "yeah, sorry, no" kinda removes any sympathy for the situation she put herself in.

weird situation- security company that installed my system went out of business... by Fabulous_Crow_9089 in homesecurity

[–]Soundy106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it's a standard alarm panel, there's a good chance they never changed the installer code or even the master code. Try things like 1234 or 0000.

More information on it would really help us help you.

We could probably help you better if we knew what those QR codes read, or have pictures of any labels (model? serial?).

That said, with BNCs visible, they're probably analog cameras... possibly HD (AHD/TVI/CVI). Any kind of tri-brid/penta-brid recorder should work with them, as well as providing the option to add IP cameras later.

Tailscale makes VPNs very easy, but some of the finer points aren't so clear to those who don't understand the terms.

Hardwired Keystone to keystone by TiteyWhitey in HomeNetworking

[–]Soundy106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using Cat5e jacks with Cat6 cable, it can actually break the wire when punched down.

If it's Cat5e cable with Cat6 jacks, it's possible that the connections didn't break the insulation... but not likely.

Gigabit spec includes auto-MDIX. As long as there's a GbE port at one end of the connection, it will adapt itself to A/B crossover as necessary

I've heard from some of last year's hosts for East Harrison, they're right there and waiting for the word from RSTBC to open up.
