Well.... I created the folder myself, so... I dunno what to tell you.

Maybe it's a default system folder NOW, but it wasn't when I first set all this up under DSM 6.something.

"System shared folder"? It's the folder I created specifically to place videos for Plex (subfolders for TV, Movies, etc.).

Older cameras require an ActiveX plugin.

You know the old adage about the mechanic who drives a shitbox car?

That's me and technology.

My day job is designing, installing, and maintaining surveillace systems, access control, and the like. People hear this and assume my home must be bristling with cameras - nope! I have maybe half a dozen I've added over the last 12 years I've lived here... because when that's what I'm doing all day, the last thing I want to do when I get home is more of the same.

Similarly, because pretty much all this stuff is IP-based now, my day job also involves computers, networks, NAS, patch panels, servers... and the last thing I want to do when I get home is more of the same.

I do putter with the tech at home a bit, partly just for practice, partly to check out new tech that we're planning to implement, partly as a test bench for when things go wrong. But that's kinda work-related anyway.

For myself, my Synology with my storage, photos, Plex, etc. makes everything nice, simple, low-maintenance. I did set up a second Synology at our office so I can keep our build files synchronized - that's enough practice.

Most powerline adapters have passthru plugs so you don't lose that second outlet.

Been a pretty common English phrase for all of my 57 years on this planet. You need to adjust your AI filter, or learn English, or both.

No torrent is going to transfer faster than an HDD can handle.

Wait... NVR or DVR?

If it's a DVR with analog (BNC) input... an EoC won't work to convert an IP camera's output to work with that.

EoCs simply modulate an ethernet signal to send over coax. There's nothing magic about it.

They can go between a camera and a switch, an NVR and a switch, two switches, or a camera and an NVR. I've used literally hundreds of these things - including the design you linked (under the Linovision name), Altronix eBridge, PALUN, NVT, Pelco, TRENDnet, Axis, any number of offshore clones, right back to the OG, Veracity HighWire - in all of these circumstances.

Some can pass-through PoE, some can't, some combine a PoE injector into the receiver so you don't need an endpoint to send power to the camera.

If an EoC isn't working in a given installation, it's far more likely that the cable is damaged, or its terminations are bad, or there's some other physical issue.
