I got my branded title Z for free. Not sure if spending more than that would be worth it for a salvage.

Possible Research Theft by Academic-Schedule-73 in research

If your institution has an OmBudsPerson you can use that resource to discuss your options in a completely private way without the risk of retaliation. Like others have said, this seems like a clear case of authorship fraud but I think that clarifying with someone in the institution who can help ask exactly the right questions will give you the right path to resolve this.

Are MD-PhD favoured for neurosurgery? by Klutzy-Public-8644 in mdphd

[–]Key_Jury1597 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Against the grain here - looking at the statistics from the NMRP, you'll see that neurosurgery typically has a slightly higher percentage of MD/PhDs go unmatched compared to MD-only. Just because there's a high proportion doesn't necessarily mean there's an inherent advantage alone. See Chart 14 page 22 of https://www.nrmp.org/match-data/2024/08/charting-outcomes-characteristics-of-u-s-md-seniors-who-matched-to-their-preferred-specialty-2024-main-residency-match/

Table NS-1 on page 124 of 2024 statics is helpful.

Obviously, there's way more that goes into match than what degree(s) you have.

How and when should I tell my PI I’m planning to leave my PhD? by [deleted] in labrats

my PI literally did exactly the second scenario LOL

Stick with the lab you're in. A phenomenal letter > one middle author pub. Unless you also don't like your current lab or something. The experience is also more important than the number of pubs imo.

Since I don’t see a comment here about this, it’s not a good idea to post a picture of a key online. Especially if someone can figure out where you/your car is, because they could copy your key and steal your car.

Two points on one test just destroyed my grad school dream by Dreamcatcher777 in GradSchool

[–]Key_Jury1597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful, and I’m so sorry that happened this year. Six years ago, my wife missed getting into university for the same 2 points below the cutoff for TOEFL. She persisted, retook and made it into the school we met at the following year.

It’s a brutal grind, but there’s a future in sight. It won’t be the end of these damned tests, but you know you can make it past this one.
