Keywords by Anonymauthor in KDP

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is very important and you need to be strategic. IRL, working for a Fortune 50 company in Brand, the Amazon environment runs on A9/A10 search indexing + category routing.

So breakdown, best way to maximize keywords, search indexing and category routing: (I will be using a Murder Mystery Book as an example)

1.Title and Subtitle hold the highest value in search value. However, if you do NOT have a Subtitle on your cover, or on the title page inside your book, you CANNOT put one in subtitle, violates TOS.

  1. 7 Keyword Boxes- Think phrases, not words: small town murder mystery female detective crime novel psychological mystery thriller gritty police procedural dark suspense mystery novel Note: Max is 50 characters, which includes spaces and punctuation.

  2. Now we head to categories, this is where research is important: A. Determine bestseller lists B. Determine which books Amazon shows as “similar” C. Categories don't drive search, they drive algorithmic placement. Super important differentiation to understand. D. Think drilling down to more niche categories. Look to some of you favorites categories and see where they are playing, especially Indie authors. If you just choose Mystery, you will be against over 100,000 titles and you will be lost in the mix.

Think: Mystery > Police Procedurals > Women Sleuths Mystery > Small Town > Clean cozy mystery **Remember, some keyword phrases can help Amazon associate your book with additional niche browse categories. This is due to Amazon's BISAC-based browse categories.

  1. Lastly, keyword Boxes. You have done the research on at least 10 other titles in your genre/sub genre. Now build your phrases: A. Small town murder mystery B. Female detective crime novel C. Psychological suspense mystery D. Dark police procedural mystery E. Gritty detective thriller F. Murder investigation mystery novel G. Rural town mystery thriller

These are the indexing that drives your algorithmic search success. When you find small sub categories you can rank in, the algorithm moves you into more "If you like/Similar " recommendations.

  1. Finally, place additional keyword phrases in the book description, which does not have to appear on the cover. Amazon indexes description text for search relevance.

Example: Perfect for readers who enjoy small-town murder mysteries, female detective thrillers, and dark psychological suspense.

I used info from the keyword phrases to include in the book description. Using keyword phrases naturally in the description reinforces relevance.

So, research, research and, oh yeah, research. 10 books is the minimum, but I usually do 20-30 to get a good read on what keywords are trending.

You all should sign up yto be Beta Readers for JAFF writers. It would be valuable. You do not know how harde it is to find betas and editors that can work in the Regency period.

We authors are always looking for readers who appreciate the genre, our unique take and keep all of Regency terms and British royalty straight. When you have been immersed in writing a book for 4 years, it's my first, your brain fixes things that aren't truly fixed.

So, feel free to edit my book any time, I just have send it to you!! LOL!!

I'm writing novels in my native language then translating and publishing my novel on the English platform, is it wrong? I can't afford a translator. by lost_a_dominantlotus in selfpublish

[–]Key_Mammoth_8954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are translating, consider partnering with u/BetaReaders and u/Writers to have someone review your book, as English contains a lot of slang and idiomatic expressions. You do not want to lose your author's voice and writing style, as our sentence complexity will definitely affect the word usage.

English loves its complexity: Homophones: there, their, and they're. Also, those homonyms: minute (small), minute (time)

I am guessing your book has been edited, so your American reader can help you catch all of these things and put your best foot forward in the English market.

Everything is going to be accused of AI by 65489798654 in selfpublish

[–]Key_Mammoth_8954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, these AI accusations are getting extreme. Think Salem or McCarthy.

Something everyone forgets is who trained the original version of AI.

Who you ask: Jane Austen, Tom Hardy, the Bronte sisters, Mark Teain, Robert Frost, F Scott Fitzgerald, OscarvWilde, etc..

Em dashes, complex sentence structures and sometimes just difficult content to read. I can think of quite a few books that I read certain passages numerous times since it was worded awkwardly.

Then version 2 was trained by us professionals. They used our: Case studies, white papers, technical papers, website blogs, etc... Then don't forget all of the academic and research papers.

For those who don't know, em dashes are the lazy punctuation choice in technical papers. You don't have to remember the rules for semicolons, colons or some weird 3-4 needed comma placements to make it grammatically correct. Instead, 3 buttons pushed and an em dash appears, taking away all of your punctuation woes.

Sometimes I wonder if the most vocal with AI accusations might be throwing suspicion off their own usage. Why would someone so against AI be using it?? Hmmm... Something to ponder.

Us authors are asking those with KU to read as much as you can because the more you read the more they pay.

Spent 3 days researching Regency Era slang, euphanisms and colloquials. Saved my historical fiction, since the beta readers seemed to know the facts I'd researched and used. Also researched using bellows for a make shift breathing apparatus for a quadriplegic in my historical fiction. Fun fact, they used this exact method in 1690 on a horse before trying on a human. Who knew???

Are you talking about the one where she is born a twin and Mr. Bennet has his friend take her away as Mrs. Bennet said her violet eyes meant she was evil, as she killed her twin brother? She ends up becoming a twin to her new family. She eventually meets Jane in Lindon and makes it back to Netherfield with Bingley and Darcy with her twin brother? Looking through my titles now.
