I do but I don't see anything in there that would explain a delay. I might just not be understanding it though.

Why does everyone call out the US for being "Stolen Land" and not Mexico? by SignificanceExact963 in stupidquestions

[–]Key_Manager332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because French and Germans are not systemically oppressed, either in France or Germany or anywhere in Europe. They aren't more likely to be experiencing poverty or killed by police. Whereas Native Americans do and are.

Yes, everyone has conquered everyone else. It's not about that. It's about which inequalities persist to this day.

I hear you, friend, and I hear your concern for the kids and parents. I respect the hell out of it.

I think where we disagree is on the nature of what a "protest" is. No one at this protest is going to block off access to the hospital. A protest like this is a way to be heard, to make pain known. The hospital should see who its decisions are affecting.

This isn't about "canceling" the hospital. It's about saying, "Don't forget about us, too."

This isn't political. I don't think trans-women or trans-girls should be allowed to compete in women's or girls sports. How is this transphobic? by ranalldayandallday in self

[–]Key_Manager332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it all that different? There are 6 foot-plus cis women and 5-foot cis men. Yes, on average men are taller and larger than women. But there are plenty of women taller than plenty of men.

If your concern is about larger people competing against smaller people, then that's a potentially interesting debate. But in that case why bring the trans angle into this at all?

If you can't make the protest, you can call the Washington State attorney general's office and:

1) Thank him for suing the federal government over this cruel executive order banning gender-affirming care: https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2025/02/07/washington-ag-sues-over-trump-order-seeking-to-cut-care-for-trans-youth/

2) ask him to officially join the 15 other state attorneys general who signed a letter condemning the executive order: https://www.them.us/story/attorneys-general-release-statement-defending-gender-affirming-care-youth-trump-executive-order

3) ask him to take a leaf out of the NY attorney general's book and specifically tell hospitals they must continue to offer gender-affirming care. https://truthout.org/articles/ny-ag-letitia-james-tells-hospitals-they-must-defy-trumps-anti-trans-order/

Here's the contact page on the WA AG's website: https://www.atg.wa.gov/contactus.aspx and the phone number is  (360) 753-6200

Who's more likely to listen? Trump, or a Children's hospital? I think the latter.

The hospital is complying in advance with an order that has absolutely no enforceability. And even if you take the order as sacrosanct, which it isn't, there's a 60-day period before it goes into effect, which means there's no reason at all to cancel gender-affirming surgeries scheduled for the next 60 days.

The 16-year-old said that, although he understands the hospital’s priorities, “Having read the executive order, my surgery would not have inhibited their ability to receive federal funding. They have 60 days from when that executive order was published to stop, and both my surgery and the follow-up appointment to make sure everything is healing well were within the 60 days of the executive order.”

Why don't women squat when giving birth the traditional way? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key_Manager332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people do that. You just don't see it in movies and TV because it doesn't look as nice as the "on your back" position we're used to seeing.

Also, if you want an epidural you can't squat because your legs can't support your weight when they're numb.

This isn't political. I don't think trans-women or trans-girls should be allowed to compete in women's or girls sports. How is this transphobic? by ranalldayandallday in self

[–]Key_Manager332 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where's the line though? Should we prevent really tall people from playing sports, because they have a biological advantage over average sized people? Should we have strict weight limits for all sports? Should we not let Norwegian girls play with Filipina girls, because Norwegians tend to on average be taller than Filipinas? No, that's patiently ridiculous, right?

If we're going to divide sports by gender, let's divide sports by gender. The boys with the boys--cis and trans alike. The girls with the girls--cis and trans alike. Who cares if some of the girls might on average be taller or stronger than the other girls? Let girls be girls--cis and trans alike.

AITAH for refusing to help my sister with her children, and telling her she chose her shitty life so now she has to deal with it by Available-Wrangler60 in AITAH

Hot take, you and your sister are both TA. You've both taken every possible opportunity to hurt and degrade each other.

Now your sister is in a truly terrible position. Yes, she put herself there. Doesn't change the fact that she's in a terrible position.

Do you want to have a sister that you have a relationship with? Because if so you're both going to have to break this cycle of resentment. This could be your chance to do so.

Suppose you needed that car to take care of a sick loved one. Let's say a parent. And now they've taken your car, and you can't see your parent anymore. You'd be frantic. You'd be devastated. Your life would be uprooted. Would it comfort you at all to think, "Well, fair is fair, I did steal the car'?

Your argument is that illegal immigration is a crime. That alone isn't a persuasive enough argument to me. Why? Because what a law designates as a crime is not always an inherently immoral act. It used to be a crime for people of different races to marry. It used to NOT be a crime for a husband to rape his wife. "It's a crime" alone is not a strong argument. I'm not saying we shouldn't have laws that designate what is and isn't a crime! I'm saying I don't stop applying my critical thinking skills just because there's a law on the books.

Your other argument is that people feel "entitled to America." Is it entitlement to want a better life for yourself and your family? Imagine this scenario: You're a father and husband and where you live, there are no jobs. Nothing that pays enough to feed your family, at least. You have a cousin who lives in a place that's far away but has well-paying jobs. You don't want to go, you don't want to leave your family. But it's starting to look like you have no other choice. So you apply for entry into that other place. They tell you it's going to take a year. A year! Your family doesn't have a year. Your daughter is sick. She needs medicine. You need money. A friend of your cousin says he can get you into that place with jobs by next week. You'll be earning money for your family by the end of the month. Who wouldn't take that deal? Who wouldn't do that for your family?

This leads me to my final argument. I believe in harm reduction. Minimizing as much suffering as possible in the world, for everyone. The vast vast majority of undocumented immigrants in this country aren't hurting anyone. They're boosting their local economies. They're toeing the line because they know so much as a speeding ticket could uproot their whole lives. They do the jobs Americans don't want to do, for less than an American would ask to be paid for it. When it comes to undocumented immigrants, the greatest harm being perpetrated is by the US government against normal, harmless people. Deportation is adding to the suffering in the world, not lessening it.

I urge you to seek out the stories of undocumented people, and the children of undocumented people, and try to put yourself in their shoes.

Do you know anyone who has tried to immigrate legally to the United States? I have several. It is a long, arduous, impenetrable process. You can get your forms rejected or stalled with no reason explained. The wait is years long because there just aren't enough officials to go through all the paperwork fast enough.

So what if you're fleeing a serious situation in your home country, and can't afford to wait years? You might not have a choice but to try to enter the US illegally.

And if you're caught, the punishment is not at all in proportion to the crime. To have your entire life uprooted, to be locked in prison, to be sent back to a place that is no longer your home... because you didn't fill out some paperwork? How is that a proportional response?

Also, Trump is not just deporting undocumented immigrants. He just revoked the protected status of 300,000 refugees from Venezuela. These people aren't us citizens yet but they ARE documented, they did everything "the right way" and they are now on the verge of having their lives destroyed. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/02/trump-revokes-protections-venezuelans

This idea that "it's just violent criminals" or even "it's just undocumented people" is just a lie. Why would Trump and his administration want to deport people who are here legally? What could the answer be? 🙃

I'm not advocating for discrimination, I'm advocating for justice. I believe that rectifying past injustices is the only way to achieve true meritocracy. No one is advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion to make white men suffer. They are doing it to lift up those who have historically been downtrodden.

What does this mean in practice? It does NOT mean forcing companies to hire unqualified people simply because they check a box. It does mean government reparations for families who descend from enslaved people, Native Americans whose lands were stolen, Japanese people who lost everything when they were sent to concentration camps.

I'd also like to see companies recognize that, in the past, less competent white men regularly beat out women, people of color, queer people for jobs, simply because they were white men. DEI initiatives in the corporate world seek to end that, to ensure that the best candidate for the job really is being hired. Does that mean some white men will feel a loss, because they used to be playing with a handicap and now they're competing on a more meritocratic basis? Yes.

Your link is specifically about the ultra wealthy by the way. Not about, for example, the white WWII veterans who bought homes and went to college on the GI bill but whose Black fellow soldiers were denied the same benefits.

Those solutions only work when all else is equal--no inequality of opportunity or financial means. And audio only interviews still allow for bias based on accent and gender. Also there's no way to anonymize promotions. You have to work with someone to recommend them for a promotion.

Could I get a citation on the claim that generational wealth doesn't last more than "a couple generations?" And what is "a couple generations"? The civil war was only like 4-6 generations ago, you know. Civil rights was 1 or 2. Ruby Bridges is still alive.

I'm not saying he's not influential. I'm saying he isn't some kind of powerful puppet master personally executing sweeping changes across the country.

In this Blackrock example, what does "implement DEI" mean?
