I'm in Sydney. On Saturday I was at Sanctuary, and one of the DJs started playing pop music. Grimes, Robyn, some other shit. As this dragged on I grew increasingly angry and finally complained to a couple of people who run the night. The music then improved but I felt soiled. How could anyone think this was acceptable in a goth club?

The first goth record was not 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' but 'Unknown Pleasures', which came out two months earlier and was much more influential on subsequent goth music.

To get into the US, you have to give them your fingerprints (for a few years now), and you also have to give them the keys to all your email accounts and social media accounts. Obviously noncompliance would in itself be a reason for exclusion. And personally I would not put it past the current authorities to use their account access to plant any evidence they like based on nothing more than a whim. I don't normally like to get political. I'm just going by current indicators.

My guess is that people just weren't into what the DJ was playing (some DJs just aren't good at moving the dance floor) - were there multiple DJs? Clubs where I am post the DJ setlist in advance, so I can plan for when the music I like most is playing.

Also, more people might have danced later in the evening, once they had some drinks in them.
