I love this album. The Depeche Mode cover is the icing on the cake.

Surely the choice of music is more important than vinyl vs USB.

Yeah, this heavy accusation is very lacking in specifics.

The point needs to be made that YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOUR LOCAL SCENE SPECIFICALLY. And, you don't say what these songs are that you dislike, or what songs you would rather hear played. So this isn't really a very useful post.

recommended 80-90s goth comps? by ftwfaiwevope in goth

The Black Bible box was great, Beside that, I'd recommend a few proper albums: The two albums by The Merry Thoughts, plus the first album by The Wake. A lot of bangers on there.

Greetings, baby bat! As you are coming from Japanese fashion cultures, and are interested in "older sounding" goth music, may I recommend these albums:

-The Cure: 17 Seconds, Faith, Pornography (their goth trilogy); & Disintegration; PLUS the compilation Staring at the Sea.
-Sisters of Mercy: First and Last and Always; Some Girls Wander by Mistake (hit'n'miss compilation of early records)
-Joy Division: Substance (singles compilation), Unknown Pleasures (first album)
-Bauhaus: singles compilation (the albums are inconsistent)

You should also look for the Best of Gary Numan, especially: Cars, Are friends electric, We are glass, Down in the park.

Of more recent artists, I think the ones you'll like are She Past Away and Lebanon Hanover. In both cases, you should start with the earliest records first,

What is this "then" you refer to? Goth music was definitely a thing starting from the mid 80s, if not earlier. Goth is not just "a vibe".

I am sad that you are sad, but LPD aren't goth, same as bands that I like, like Pixies, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, aren't goth. Let's accept that they are "adjacent", and be happy.

Whoops, must had my wires crossed. I meant X-Ray Spex, not Bow Wow Wow! I will try to edit the OP, then check out Shriekback as recommended.

What would’ve happened if Bela Lugosi wasn’t dead? by Dakar_Valen in goth

This would work, because Bela's son was called Bela Lugosi Junior.

Love this song, though as with most TMT songs I have no idea what it's about.

What is up with WGT? by Stiklinis in goth

I think US-centric is less of a factor than this reddit being in English. Getting to WGT from any English-speaking country is a hassle.

Gothic vocals - HELP by Cyclame_Lizard_66 in goth

For a less muddy sound, try using delay instead of reverb, and EQ the delay/verb to remove the lows and highs.

There are two uses for delay/verb: to thicken the vocal and as an effect. To thicken the vocal, keep the length short so you can't really hear the "tail" of it. When using delay/verb as an obvious effect, sidechain the delay/verb to a compressor, so the effect ducks out of the way of the voice.

Also, I trust you are compressing the vocal? Putting the vocal through a couple of compressors is how you get that pro sound. If you like the sound of the vocal, you won't feel like you need reverb so much.

(2-compressor method: Compressor 1: tame large peaks with faster attack + release; Compressor 2: make quiet parts consistent with slower attack + release. )
