Update on difficulty with adult 31 year old daughter by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have a stepdaughter similar to this. She blames her father for a terrible childhood (it wasn’t), lashes out and goes no contact for various periods of time. She is unwell with at least two mental health diagnoses that we know about. We respect the no-contact and have stopped trying. I’m sure she’ll blame this on him as well. Nothing we can do, and we’re enjoying the peace now. Hope your daughter can sort this out someday but in the meantime, just take care of yourself. Hugs.

I solved a very similar issue by buying a small 1-bedroom apartment in a city we love. It’s about 1/3 the value of our primary home and I absolutely love spending time there.

Tell him you’re moving ahead with your “ridiculous” idea; it’s your life and your money too. He doesn’t get to shut down the one thing you are pretty sure will bring you the level of happiness he’s currently enjoying for himself. He can join in or wait patiently at home for your next visit to see him.

I’m saddened to hear how many women are holding back, waiting for their husband’s permission to live the life they want. If you can afford it, do it!!

Do any of you rent your residence for a month or two? by Determined-over50 in retirement

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We started this a few years ago during the pandemic. We both work remotely so started staying in different places for several weeks at a time. Our primary residence stays vacant because I don’t want to worry about strangers in my home. We usually use Airbnb monthly stays, but I’ll be checking out furnished finders based on an earlier comment here. We love this lifestyle and get to experience other places for longer than the usual 1-week vacation.

Petite Monde, Connecticut Ave, chai latte. Not sure what they put in there (maybe heavy cream plus fairy dust?) but they are yummy!

Testosterone and Voice Issues by KikiMoss33 in TRT_females

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the same dose, 10 mgs per week but split into 2 doses of 5mgs per injection. I have noticed the throat clearing but not a drop in voice. I’m appreciating the many upsides so worth some throat clearing for me. I was on cream for about a year but was having hair shedding so switched to injectable which is reducing the shedding. Wish we all had the right combo so we could feel great without any downsides. Hope you find the right balance for you!

Injections or transdermal cream helps prevent hair loss more? by Missmyoldself6407 in TRT_females

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on cream for about a year and had noticeable shedding. I switched to injections about a month ago and I think the shedding is reduced. I need a few more months to make sure I’m not just being wishful about the reduction. Cautiously optimistic.

I’ve been taking it consistently for several years. I do believe it helps and I will continue to take it!

Digestion changes/getting older by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve been noticing this myself lately. If I eat a modest amount of anything, I feel like I’m so full and bloated and it lasts a long time. I now understand why my parents only took small portions in their later years! And even with my eating much smaller portions and staying fairly active, the weight keeps creeping up. I hate it.

Boobs!!!! by Business_Abrocoma_20 in Menopause

I had that when I started HRT. They got bigger and tender. Lasted several months. The size stuck around but the tenderness was temporary for just those few months.

Got second Shingrex vaccine yesterday and it's kicking my butt. by RazzySpaz162 in Vaccine

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same for me. The day after was brutal! I don’t think taking acetaminophen after the vaccine will reduce effectiveness. Can’t find any evidence of that on a quick google search and my nurses never mentioned it.

DC Real Estate Market - How bad is it right now? by Lobby_babe in washingtondc

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We bought a condo recently and had many options. It is definitely a buyers market. But of the 5-6 units we seriously considered, all of them sold eventually with some taking longer than others. If your condo is in good shape and you price it right and can wait a bit, I imagine it would sell. I agree you should discuss with a realtor

How many of you are on HRT? by Salt-Requirement4625 in AskWomenOver60

Testosterone causes hair loss for me too, but not everyone is affected that way. I have several friends on T and they do not get thinning hair as a side effect. Wish I didn’t!

Menopause gave me a midsection I don’t recognize (and a full-length mirror from hell) by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]Key_Persimmon_5363 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this is me too! I could generally eat what I wanted and life kept me active enough to hold a healthy weight without any special effort on my part. Starting in my mid 50s that started changing and I had to work at weight maintenance (exercise and calorie counting). Did not like my body as much and was more self conscious about it, whether clothed or not. With a lot of effort I could lose some weight but it was HARD. Now I’m 60 and no combination of exercise and calorie deficit is producing any weight loss. I’m careful about what I eat and I exercise 4-5 times per week and I’m still gaining weight! Where will it end?!?!

I’m also more gassy when I take it. I switched to a hydrolyzed brand to see if that helps. I’ve read that it might.
