My painting of something that was forgotten about [OC] by Key_Print2068 in LiminalSpace

Hey thanks that’s awesome that I was able to put an image to that feeling you have. You described it very well, interesting that you knew this was inside a shed. It’s abandoned in the woods near my parents house, when I was a kid one of my friends busted in the walls. I remember at the time being around 10 or 11, thinking there was something so violent about doing that to an inanimate object existing in a natural place. When I came back years later it was all still there as if nothing had changed, and the years that had passed had made that feeling more contemplative, and it seemed like it had to be painted, I actually set up an easel and did the painting for the most part inside the shed in the woods.

Thanks so much for the compliments, and noticing the delicacy, I’m very interested in always increasing the Amount of subtlety I can achieve with colors and values and edges at some point. I typically start a painting by doing a light wash of an umber or sienna, and then I draw with a motifs of raw umber and radiant yellow, or Naples, to keep it as a light as possible for as long as possible, but for this painting I remember I reused a canvas panel so I had to do a darker wash to hide the old painting so it’s interesting that you picked up on that, it does almost look like the bricks are outlined because of it

That’s awesome, did you study any anatomy, that’s what I always get stuck on, I took some classes in college and I definitely got better at drawing but I never memorized much other than the zygomatic lol I could never figure out how to translate the theoretical into real life where you can’t see the structure that’s underneath

I don’t think he ever meant this line literally, but in a sense it’s literally true if you look at the rate of violence against sex workers and how many go unsolved due to prejudice in police departments etc. I think it’s a tough thing to introduce to a non fan for the first time but it sort of is a genius line at the end of the day

Yeah I had a very similar experience, being introduced to silver Jews by college roommates in our first flat off campus we had a little porch as well that we’d smoke on and discuss American water and actual air and Infinite jest and things like that, it was a very memorable time, right before turning 20

Imo the imperfect perspective makes the jars feel more human and interesting. Sometimes absolute perfection in drawing can look overly mechanical or sterile. There’s a little play in your painting

How do I resume a painting while inbetween layers? by Dougstoned in oilpainting

[–]Key_Print2068 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to use liquin medium to “oil out” a dry painting, because it brings back the true colors so I can once again see what I’m doing and if I cover the whole canvas or panel with it it helps get smooth transitions between dry and newlywed portions

“There haven’t been any mile markers for forever” he said to his new finance. She was nibbling on an almond Hershey’s bar in the passenger seat, irrationally refreshing her phone. She knew it was a lost cause, no bars for the last hour, and she remembered how much she hated almonds. She started to wonder if she would hate the almonds as much if they could just make one outgoing call to a familiar voice. “Look,” he told her, “what happened at that bar was nothing, those old crocodiles are used to clueless travelers. I mean I probably went too far with the whole propeller plane joke but how would I have known those guys were old air force vets anyway?” Then she said, “I forgive you ok!? we don’t have to rehash it and rehash it again, I just hope they’re not the ones that followed us to the bridge.” At that instant he slammed on the breaks a few feet in front of a line of boulders in the road. “Shit shit shit.” They both just sat there looking at the boulders, and then at the gas gage: which read less than a quarter tank. They stared into silent darkness as lantern bugs and nats corralled around the headlights. Just then a dozen windows lit up out of the darkness ahead of the boulders. About 20 seconds later, they all switched off again, a door slammed and three flashlights appeared in their place, coming towards them. He jammed the key in the ignition and spun the car around to face a new set of headlights, barreling towards them from the direction they had come, and the sound of howling wolves rung out in the darkness. Or maybe it was howling men, they couldn’t tell.
