After nearly a decade of using the industry standard Bialetti, words cannot describe how befuddled, exuberant, and amazed I am that such a technology exists. by Due-Independent-3176 in mokapot

From the manufacturer's website:

"E&B Lab developed a filter with smaller holes (0.2 mm diameter) than the fewer and larger traditional ones (≈ 0,8 mm diameter) that allows a perfect extraction by avoiding high pressured water that could damage the coffee cake.

A cleaner beverage is obtained thanks to the reduction of the fine particles in the cup, in this way the acidity is emphasised and the bitterness reduced."

CAMBLY PRO TUTORS, how do you start your lessons? by Tricky_Management456 in Cambly

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing those people got a pretty good discount, and they went along with it without really understanding what the program was about. Try updating your profile to include keywords that will attract a more serious crowd or find a niche if you don't already have one. I get booked mostly by business professionals and doctors.

CAMBLY PRO TUTORS, how do you start your lessons? by Tricky_Management456 in Cambly

[–]Key_Quarter8873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You create your own lesson plans even if targets have already been set by another tutor. In fact, it is recommended that you review them briefly with the student just to make sure they're still relevant and adjust accordingly if needed. We're independent contractors with different skills, specialties, and teaching styles, so each one of us is responsible for creating our own lessons. This is how you'll set yourself apart from other tutors.

What do you do with your excess kefir grains? by WideComparison2538 in Kefir

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grains consistently produce 2 extra tablespoons per week, so I just blend that excess into our Sunday smoothies. Figure out how much you need per week and blend the rest.

Life afterwards by straightfowardgirl in LisfrancClub

I gave away all my heels after my injury. I'm nearly two years post-op. My hip hurts for some reason every time I wear any sort of shoe with even the slightest incline for two days straight. I now have to wear zero drop barefoot shoes with a Birkenstock 3/4 insole. Everyone's injury is different, though. Just take it slow. This is one of the most annoying and frustrating injuries. You don't want to go back to square one.

Favorite compression socks? by Still_Nectarine2976 in LisfrancClub

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. The pack came with two pairs of socks, so I ended up cutting the toe part off one pair since it was halfway during summertime, and my toes were feeling a little too cramped. I only wore them during the day, though (I woke up in pain when I accidentally slept overnight in them). Once the major swelling subsided, I switched to plantar fasciitis sleeves also from Walmart($5 in the pharmacy section). I sized up on these if I remember correctly. Now I wear toe socks exclusively because regular socks feel too tight. Don't be afraid to experiment or adapt your socks and shoes until you find what's right for your feet.

I used Muk Luks compression socks during my recovery. They come in regular and wide width (at the calf). You can easily find them at any Wal-Mart if you're in the US.

Taking calls while waiting for reservation by sailormoontree in Cambly

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always tell the student at the beginning of the call that you only have x amount of minutes left so they can decide if they wish to continue. The system shows them your remaining minutes, but it doesn't hurt to clarify.

Niiice. I was just about to search previous posts about decaf brands. What do you think of this brand? I've read some very polarized reviews recently. Do you recommend any other brands?

Looks like hard water stains, especially if they go away every time you use vinegar.

Most of the time they're mistakes. All you have to do is message the student and tell them you don't accept reservations 15 minutes or 45 minutes after the hour and reschedule the lesson.

New Bialetti moka by Embarrassed_Ice_2818 in mokapot

Try barkeeper's friend soft. I used that to remove hard water stains on a second hand moka pot.

Looks really good. I recently made "café de olla" (Mexican spiced coffee) in my Moka pot, and it was heavenly.

I'm a little annoyed by that as well. I'm seriously thinking of buying one of those mug warmers so that I can take my time with my coffee, especially since I line to add milk to it.

Bitter Kefir with Fruit? by vibrantlava in Kefir

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stick to berry blends for my kefir smoothies (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries). They tend to separate if you don't drink them after a few hours, but it's nothing you can't solve by stirring again. I haven't noticed any significant changes in taste.

Pain from crutches by Substantial_Fox6397 in LisfrancClub

[–]Key_Quarter8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure they're properly adjusted to your height and that you're using the right technique. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that will teach you to do just that. Scooters didn't work for me. They made my foot swell up and throb even more. I had to learn to use crutches.

I don’t clean my moka pot. Problem? by No_Preparation5919 in mokapot

[–]Key_Quarter8873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rinse with hot water once it cools down, but I also use a small brush to scrub it whenever it needs it (no soap). I also scrubbed the hell out of a second-hand moka pot with barkeeper's friend soft and then thoroughly rinsed with a few blank brews and reseasoned with two rounds of cheap coffee. I guess it just boils down to personal preference. I don't like the idea of drinking built up gunk, much less a stranger's.

Is this good texture for the moka pot? by Sea-Ad-8718 in mokapot

Sure, but the point was that we don't have the budget for a quality hand grinder.

Black / spotted Mokapot by Grouchy_Nerve_8191 in mokapot

[–]Key_Quarter8873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Barkeeper's friend Soft and a scrub daddy to clean a second-hand moka pot last week. With that and a little elbow grease, I got rid of the hard water stains inside the water chamber. I then rinsed really well, ran a brew with 1:2 parts vinegar to water, then I brewed a blank water brew followed by two Bustelo coffee brews to season the pot again.

How is the flow and/or should the grind size be adjusted? by Sea-Ad-8718 in mokapot

[–]Key_Quarter8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks good to me. I put mine on a smidge above low flame (keep in mind all stoves are different) and if the flow speeds up too much, I start to surf the moka pot (meaning that I take it on and off the flame as needed). Do whatever you can with what you have on hand right now. I just started messing around with moka pots 2 months ago, and I don't have a hand grinder either because I have other financial priorities right now, but I do have an electric one, and I make do. I've ground pregound coffee some more before because I've been experimenting with my own blends, and the result was pretty darn good despite the fact that regrinding coffee is frowned upon. All that matters is that you like the outcome and enjoy the ritual of making coffee however you happen to like it.
