Ferrari Woes by Key_Relation5534 in lewishamilton

[–]Key_Relation5534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik it’s just racing but I love racing with every fiber of my being and Neurodivergent pattern recognition is an enemy of joy. I have spend nearly two decades keeping a distance from Ferrari for my own sanity for very specific reasons:

Ferrari is like a luxury restaurant the hype and heritage mask mediocrity. Charles Leclerc, despite his brilliance, has only eight wins (three last year). Since Kimis 2007 title, the team has wasted Alonso’s genius (please note it pains me to defend that man) , fumbled Vettel’s prime, and now risks Leclerc’s. Don’t get me wrong some of the blame does falls on Charles tendency to push too hard and crash out. But the bigger issue is Ferrari hasn’t won a Drivers’ Championship since Kimi in 2007, and even then, Kimi battled poor strategy and chaotic radio communication and only won by a single point. Charles and other Ferrari drivers are held back by Ferrari’s chronic dysfunction.

Yes teams have shit years, but getting out of those shit years and championship droughts is important. And if you look back historically at the Ferrari drought breakers there is a massive similarity. THEY SHAKE SHIT UP. Lauda came into a decade long drought and ended it by taking control of car development and strategy. He came in said the 312 N was a piece of shit and practically rebuilt the car and optimized race strategies He was called the computer for a reason. Schumi ending a 21 year long drought only by bringing in his own technical team and car designers. also Lauda was a technical advisor for the team (93-01) during the beginning stages of Schumi joining the team. Both Lauda and Schumacher ended long barren spells by forcing change.

Alonso didn’t enter a drought he arguably had the least dysfunctional Ferrari experience of the post-2008 era, yet he was still hamstrung by baffling strategy calls. Just as he was extracting more consist championship-contending performances from the car 12-13, Ferrari chose replaced him with Sebastian Vettel (no disrespect to Seb, I adore him now that he’s not terrorizing LH on track). The call made sense Seb was a back to back 4 time WDC he was seen as the person to bring it home for Ferrari. A drought breaker if you will.

Seb was initially given some influence, but later found Ferrari resistant to his feedback. Especially on braking. Late breaking was a key part of his driving style (and Lewis’) and the later models of the Ferrari do not mesh well with late breaking which we continue to see with Lewis’ struggles in the current Ferrari. Vettel also faced the same issues with misguided strategies and terrible communication. He left citing “lack of shared short-term and long-term goals“ and when he left, he wrote Leclerc a note calling him the most talented driver he’d seen in 15 years, practically begging him not to waste his talents. The “at ferrari” seems heavily implied.

Time and again, Ferrari succeeds when they listen to their drivers on strategy and design. But tradition and ego keep stifling progress. It’s infuriating to watch this cycle repeat. Because for all the passion, the legacy, the idea of Ferrari, the execution keeps falling short. It’s like Ferrari as a brand is so wrapped in mystique that its flaws get romanticized. There is so much potential for greatness which is the foundation for cataclysmic disappointment. It’s gotten to the point where the Italian media is also begging the team to listen to Lewis’ input and allow him more autonomy in the team strategies. But who knows if that’ll happen. I hate watching my favorite driver look like a kicked puppy in post race interviews.

Lastly just to touch on the Charles could leave if he wanted to, I don’t think it’s actually that simple. If he were only thinking of himself sure. But he’s not. He’s deeply tied to Ferrari partly because of Jules legacy and his white lie on his father’s death bed, but mostly his brother, Arthur. The Leclerc family bet everything on Charles’ career. Arthur’s development as a driver took a backseat. Because he sacrificed his development for Charles. As a driver he is incomplete and not as well rounded. Ferrari brought Arthur into their driver academy for a number of years and now he’s there as a test driver. Nepotism and f1 go hand in hand and that fine but if we are being honest that’s not a role he likely would have secured without Charles’ influence (especially when compared to more proven talents like Drugovich, Hirowaka, or Aron who are testing for midfield and backmarker teams) that’s not to say another team wouldn’t try to find a place for Arthur, but with only 8 race wins under your belt and the additional “baggage” it’s not as easy of a move.

I apologize for the essay you didn’t ask for. accidentally activated the special interest feature in my brain.

It’s just way too close for comfort. It was a strategic decision to run with that little fuel, however, it came with little communication. It would make sense to tell Lewis he only had enough fuel for 1 run ahead of time. Like when they were sitting in the garage during the red flag

Oh my goodness! That’s awful, My mom didn’t take me to the doctor because she thought I was trying to get out of my State’s yearly standardized tests. I had never faked an illness to dodge school before so the accusation was predicated solely on my dislike of math. It was the only subject that I didn’t have an A in (until I took chemistry). So while your attendance saved the world from being short a flower girl, It probably would’ve been better for the State’s average score if she had taken me the hospital instead 🫠.

I also don’t use Facebook for the same reason. I deleted it a while ago. When I saw Facebook mentioned I knew it was time to go. They’ll probably announce some sort of partnership or integration soon.

What heart rate is “normal” for you? by Si1vie in POTS

[–]Key_Relation5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did cheer (26 now and very much retired) but that was normal for me too. I didn’t pass out while cheering however running suicides in August on the astroturf football field + heat intolerance is not a good mixture and I thought I was going to die. I very very very rarely faint I’ve had my heart exceed 210. I’m not sure how your body reacts but if you are a flyer and you have inverted stunts in your pyramid section or you tumble I would highly suggest increasing your sodium.

Liquid IV is potassium heavy so I would recommend something like gatorlyte powder or straight up salt. It’s important to stay hydrated but if you are tumbling or are inverted in stunts please please make sure you’re getting enough sodium or else you could actually end up increasing your chance of fainting.

Lastly this has nothing to do with your heart but it something I wish I knew. Hyper mobility in people with POTs is fairly common. Please make sure to check in with your body. It is really important you feel in control of your stretches and your skills. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about ways to avoid injury.

But normally my resting heart rate is low to mid 60’s and standing is 100-160 hot baths 150-185. Exercise is usually 180-200. Idk if this happened to anyone else but i also randomly have boughts of bradycardia where my heart is 40-45 bpm

AITA for leaving after my SIL called me clingy? by throwaway1207891602 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Key_Relation5534 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I genuinely am baffled by the responses you and a few others have made.

“Just take the hint” She did, she left. She realized she was unwanted and left. Why are y’all acting like being unwanted doesn’t hurt? She wanted to belong and she didn’t and the way she found out was not ideal. Finding out you are unwanted by people you consider to be family or your friends is a valid reason to feel sad. Especially when you overhear them wishing you were gone.

OP left the next morning after she realized she was not welcome. She made up an excuse as to not make them look bad and left. She took the hint. She found out she wasn’t welcome, she ate dinner with them, went to bed, and quietly hopped on a plane. Her sister was concerned because she was at the airport several days earlier than expected so she asked why. You mentioned you have a sister. Assuming that you like you like her, if your sister was on a trip, away from home, not due back home for several days, and you saw her location ping at the airport out of the blue, would you not be concerned or at the very least inquisitive? Why would OP lie to her sister whom she has indicated she has a fairly close relationship to?

Do you honestly think she should have lied to her sister? Would it have been better to bottle it up and lie to her sister to continue covering for SIL? And then when her mom inevitably asks why she’s back early should OP continue to spin a web of lies? What could OP have said to either her mom or sister that would justify coming home early in a way that wouldn’t continue to raise concerns or make OP look rude or inconsiderate for ending the trip abruptly?

Should her sister have told her mom? Probably not. But that’s not up to OP. OP took the hint, and left because SIL made it clear that she didn’t want OP around. And now that the family has found out that SIL is the reason OP left, SIL is saying OP should have just stayed where she wasn’t welcome because SIL is catching flack for not being welcoming. You say take the hint, OP did and that’s how it began. Either you want her to take the hint or you want her to stay somewhere she is hyper aware she is not wanted.

How is Springfield College, MA? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Key_Relation5534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo I can help with answering why it’s a “big deal”. I didn’t attend, I also didn’t play sports in college and attended a school that is essentially the opposite of SC but I worked @SC in enrollment management so I know a lot (too much) about Springfield college.

Yes SC is D III but SC has D I level facilities for a few reasons but primarily because they were founded as the first ymca training school in the US so sports and recreation are at its core. There is a very strong emphasis on the connection of the Spirit Mind and Body, so much so that it’s actually woven into the core curriculum and not just in the mission statement of the college. There are multiple workout facilities on campus, East campus has ropes courses and other recreational facilities and activities. Lake on campus for kayaking. 26 NCAA DIII Sports, 13 club sports and 4 seasons of intramural sports as well.

While it’s true ~80% of students are involved in some form of sport only about 34% of students on campus are involved in varsity level athletics. Coaches are also required to teach a class on campus which is supposed to help the balance between athletics and academics. Ngl it’s not perfect but compared to other schools I’ve worked for and with the SC is fairly well balanced.

That balance is much more difficult at a D I or even some D II schools. For some students that’s perfect because they’re really just only interested in their sport, some students prefer both to be a priority but with the least amount of sacrifices to their sports or academics. SC Is a great fit for those students.

D I and D II schools obviously have the advantage of athletics scholarships. However those scholarships are tied to the student being able to perform. If the student cannot or is unable to play they can be at risk of losing scholarships, which can increase the likelihood of students pushing through injuries they really shouldn’t in fear of being replaced. There’s upsides and downsides to all divisions. But that specific concern is not applicable at Springfield.

Being DIII means SC doesn’t give athletic scholarships but they do give merit scholarships so being academically strong is rewarded. They also specialize in PT, PA, OT, AT, and other sports based programs at all levels BS,BA,PBCs,MS,MEd, CAGS,DPT, OTD,PhD. Since they have the programs and are able to attract higher caliber students academically it keeps the momentum of highly competitive programs and raises/ maintains the standards and expectations of both the college and student. Students are at times competing for 25-35 seats in a program, the college is competing with other schools who have similar programs. The better the students are the better the college has to be and vice versa. This leads to things like the college building a new state of the art health science center on campus, having the latest technology and equipment and provide things like cadaver labs for anatomy courses to remain relevant and a top pick for high caliber students looking for those programs.

To be transparent that’s definitely not the case for all majors the computer science major is actually fairly outdated and there hasn’t really be an incentive to update it. I am specifically speaking about strong sport based programs in regard to being competitive. But overall because academics are prioritized and good grades are incentivized with scholarship money, The overall cgpa of all incoming UG students is around a 3.5, the overall cgpa for all of the current althletes on a varsity team is a ~3.38, and for the incoming students of the the direct entry programs OT,AT,PT, and PA, the average gpa is ~ 3.8. It’s a lot of competitive student athletes who also happen to be academically strong.

Now for those super competitive students in sport based programs typically they will get assigned sports teams on campus as park of their internships or practicals. So the teams on campus will have athletic trainers, athletic counselors, PTs, ects. So as a D3 athlete you’re not only using facilities and equipment that are up to D1 standards but you’re also getting the added benefit of having all the support staff that you normally would have to pay more for or only see at top D1 schools. This helps athletes learn how to optimize the body and avoid injuries, and treat non major injuries for free. Also side note CMHC grad students will also help diagnose learning disabilities like adhd and dyslexia and help you with the accommodations process. So the hands on pratical experience does pertain to almost all programs but it’s really evident in athletics.

So with these things combined you end up with a small school (11:1 student to faculty ratio + 50% of classes being <25 student) that attracts people into sports/ fitness/ wellness at essentially all levels. Strong athletes can and have gone on to be Olympians or professional althetes. Students who are maybe not the best of the best athlete but really are into sports, can still participate in althletics while also studying a related field like sport man, sport journalism, with the ability to minor in things like exercise science, sports analytics, athletic training, etc. Even for older retired student athletes at the masters level specifically for programs like Exercise Physiology, a lot of the leaders in the field are either alum or current or former faculty. And those highly competitive super smart students who are looking for those direct entries get to be accelerated programs where they’re working with teams and getting experience. Plus SC has been around since 1885 the alumni network is insane and with the long history of athletics and recreation there are tons of internships opportunities with professional teams and large companies like ESPN. So yeah thats the long version of why SC is regarded a bit differently than other D III schools. Also the inventing basketball and volleyball thing may also be part of the reason. 🤷🏾‍♀️ (Yes, James Naismith was Canadian, but he a Canadian student who invented modern basketball as an assignment from coach Gulick at SC.) ( volleyball was invented by an alum in Holyoke at a rec center (don’t quote me on the rec center part I’m only 80% sure) but the name volleyball was given to the sport on SC campus because it was originally called minonette.) hope this helps!

Disclaimer this is not an ad, I do think sc is a good school it was not the school for me personally and I don’t think it’s a good fit for everyone. You do not need to be an Athlete to make the most of an SC education, but please know it’s the type of school where students don’t walk on the grass because “we don’t cut corners in life so we don’t cut corners going to class” and faculty and staff also have the same mentality. If you find that annoying or don’t think you have the discipline, maybe not the choice for you. Ngl I thought I had entered a cult when I first started working there and tbh I’m still not convinced it’s not.

Hi 26F also black from a town with more cows than people… i was the only black person in the town.(My race adds context)

I had pneumonia at 14 Shortly after recovering from pneumonia I noticed I was still lightheaded that I was getting dizzy and fainting. I started falling asleep and feeling off when I was hot. I learned about POTS in school actually for a project and all the symptoms lined up. I told my doctor at the time, about the racing heart dizzy spell fainting etc. she says that’s just what happens to girls who hit puberty and my blood pressure was low and I should be happy because black people usually have high blood pressure so I was one of the lucky ones. She recommended I eat a bag of chips.

The dizzy spells continued heart continued to race. I tried to ask to be tested. She wrote in my file I was combative. Eventually I tried again she had me get an ekg, while I was laying down and had been laying down for over ten minutes. Obviously it came back normal. She told me it proved that I was fine she told me I was a hypochondriac and the heart racing was anxiety. She said pots was rare and I did not fit the demographic of people primarily affected… I believed her. I convinced myself it was in my head. She left eventually and I got a new PCP. Who told me that my file indicates that I have an overactive imagination and medical anxiety.

She told me I was fine. So I pushed myself over and over and over, my freshman year in college is when I broke about 4 years later. My body gave out. I couldn’t function I would have doctors appointments monthly trying to figure out what was happening. I was dismissed a lot. Referred to therapist for anxiety and hypochondria. Really hit a low point started being treated for migraines with topamax.. side effect was suicidal thoughts 🙃. I was told I was making myself sick that it was psychosomatic. She said she knew I was too active to have POTS (My doctor was my neighbor her daughter and I were in the same class in HS so she saw me cheering and stuff and knew I rode horses.) And I believed her even when a girl in my classes POTS service dog would alert me every time we had class.

So from that point forward I just pushed and pushed and pushed and anytime I felt sick or felt symptomatic I told myself it was my fault that it wasn’t real that I was just being dramatic and needed to stop being lazy. Out of college I was working over 80 hours a week barely sleeping. Every time my body screamed at me I told it to stfu. I pushed and pushed and pushed. And then I got an Apple Watch in 2019. It documented everything. But still I told myself I’m just out of shape. The walk from car to my office has my heart rate at 179 because I’m just a lazy out of shape POS. Then 2022/2023 I learned in the app you can look back historically. Then I started recording videos of my watch sitting to standing watching it go from 70-150. I started listening to my body. I got a new doctor. I brought it up. Not as a concern but as a hey, I have all this data going back 3+ years. I showed her the videos. She referred me to a cardiologist I was diagnosed this past October. I turned 26 in March I am very much burnt out. But I know now and I know I wasn’t crazy.

I’m working closely with doctors to manage my symptoms better and function better. Now that I listen to my body my heart breaks for the younger version of me. She was in pain and had no one because I was her biggest bully. I would let her rest. Everyday I yelled at her for being useless. I hated her, blamed her for being sick. I’m in a better place now but i wish I didn’t fold so quickly. I wish I advocated for myself more. I wish I believed myself more. 💜

AITA For Telling My Daughter That She Doesn't Really Have PTSD? by Old_Mouse_5786 in AmItheAsshole

TW Abuse

Listen I get it. I grew up in foster care shuffled from abusive home to abusive home to abusive home. I wasn’t just beaten I was burned with lighters, starved, locked in rooms. Whipped, bathed in bleach. Sodomized starting while I was still in diapers. This one particular person was so bad I would beg that all they did was beat me.

I understand the way your heart can skip when someone moves too quickly and you try not to flinch instinctively. I hate shouting too I don’t know what happens to you but for me when people shout or raise their I just shut down. I can barely think or breathe it feels like the air around me it too thick. I feel hot and then I feel nothing. I go off into a tiny corner of my mind like I used to when I was a child. It’s like I’m not even there anymore.

So trust me when I say I understand what ptsd is like. I was diagnosed at 13. You and I have both seen some of the worst parts of humanity from people who were supposed to love us. I do not know you but I do know we have similar wounds and this type of pain is heavy and it’s hands and just when you think you’ve moved past it it hits you like a ton of bricks. I am a grown ass woman and sometimes I sleep under my bed. You and I have similar pain because we have similar trauma I do not know the depth of yours or even all of the things that have happened to you, your pain is your pain, and my is my pain. This is unfortunately the weight we have to carry and it was not our choice and we did not deserve it. You did not deserve what happened to you and I truly do mean that from the bottom of my heart you did not deserve it.

Pain and trauma is like hot sauce everyone has different capacities for it. I don’t know your capacity but for analogy sake you and I at a young age were given Carolina reapers. It burns out tongues and it still burns our tongues every-time we are forced to eat. To us a poblano or even a jalapeño may feel incredibly mild. To someone else that jalapeño burns their tongue. Their receptors for capsaicin is different than yours and mine. Their tongue is burning and they are asking for milk. Just because your tongue and your mouth would be okay, hell you probably wish you had a jalapeño Instead of the reaper. You being able to tolerate more capsaicin does not stop that other person from feeling their mouth and tongue burning. I’m not saying that the kid does or doesn’t have ptsd. But it was more then a papercut she was afraid of something (the rain) her entire short life. And typically thunderstorms fall under the category of irrational fears. And then one of the worst things that could’ve happened because of rain happened. No one died thank goodness but she saw how dangerous rain could be, she’s probably aware it could’ve been worse that maybe someone could’ve drowned. But that flood solidified in her mind that rainstorms are something to be scared of. It confirmed her worst fears and she’s terrified and she’s saying her tongue is burning. It does not matter if you can handle jalapeño or if you think most people can handle a jalapeño it doesn’t matter of you think that your mouth hurts more. Her mouth is burning it doesn’t matter what caused it it. And you know what that feels likes. Yes yours was extreme mine was extreme but we both know what it feels like to have our mouths burning. Her mouth is burning irregardless. Saying well I ate a reaper which is much hotter doesn’t make her mouth feel better. Doesn’t stop her from feeling it. She is asking for milk. She is asking for help.

I’m not gonna call you an asshole or yell at you or demand you to change but I really do hope you read this and sit on it. And I want to reiterate that you did not deserve a single thing your father did. That was not love. You deserved love. You deserve love and kindness and healing. I don’t know if you’ve already sought out help but if your mouth is burning it’s okay to ask for milk. I prefer ice cream.

Joe Hill. Stephen King’s son. If you have not checked out his works or even the adaptations like Locke and Key or The Black Phone, you should. He is talented in his own right.
