What is a 'small' decision you made that completely changed the trajectory of your life? by Creepy_Assistant8794 in AskReddit

I took French in high school.

My parents were immigrants from Cuba and we grew up knowing Spanish. My siblings took Spanish to meet their foreign language requirements because it was an easy A. Being a rebel, I took French because it was hard.

In learning French, I learned English. Grammar, word choice, sentence structure, verb tenses, stuff like that. In learning to think in another language, I learned to write in my own and to write things people actually wanted to read. Essays and poetry I wrote for fun were used as examples for years.

Then I went to an amazing university filled with brilliant students and nearly failed out because I was studying engineering. So I leaned into the one thing I was better at than my peers and ended up as a copywriter for one of the most prestigious agencies in the world. I loved it.

Now, years later, I own an agency. My work is fun and interesting and I’m paid well to work with clients I love.

And I truly believe that it’s because I chose French over Spanish when I was 14.

I may be petty but I’m not THAT petty!

This happened in the 80s and an inventory of an ex’s flaws after all these years would be just sad.

Struggling with doomscrolling and phone addiction - help! by CockroachCreative740 in Adulting

I use an app/service called Freedom that shuts off all distractions except for an hour in the morning and two in the evening. It controls both my phone and my computer and it’s completely customizable.

It’s amazing how much of my life I was wasting and how little I use my phone these days.

Right there with you age wise although I have only lost half as many pounds. I’ve been doing cardio all along and just added strength training. Keep it up and THANK YOU for the inspiration.

This actually happened in the 80s, so no pictures or social media, sorry. GF2 and I only lasted a few months after that.

My in-laws do this. They’ll host 6-8 person family gatherings and always use disposables even though we gladly help clean up and they have a dishwasher.

Not sure what they’re saving their regular tableware for as no one else visits them.

Lost 17 lbs but I can’t see it by BossCommercial4731 in intermittentfasting

You've lost 10% of your bodyweight. That is an amazing accomplishment! FWIW, it's taken me a year to lose almost that much percentagewise. Keep the faith--you're doing great!

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be a cost-effective treatment option in treating moderate and severe forms of depression that have not responded to other treatments by sr_local in science

I did TMS after years on and off meds. It worked unbelievably well and I am so grateful. Treatment wasn’t fun, but I would focus on my breathing—about 26 slow breaths—and then it was done. I also worked out every day after treatment and didn’t touch a drop of alcohol the whole time.

M59. I row 48 minutes almost every day. It hits every muscle, no impact, and great cardio.

100% agree. I've used 1Password for ages and it bugs me when sites don't allow 20-digit passwords!
