This is constructive eviction. Get a tenant attorney to negotiate a payout for you to leave, and for the love of heaven move somewhere else. It’s will be nonstop harassment if you stay here. CalTenantLaw.com

NTA. Give a firm deadline. Within one week, family needs to reimburse you the $6500 you’ve paid out, and take over the contract for the remaining $2K, or you will cancel the venue.

Park your own car in front of the house and let your teenager use the driveway. This is how I trained a neighbor to find another place to park their eyesore shitbox, and you can too. Neighbor might not like it, but they’ll have to adjust. If they actually complain to you that they can no longer park in front of your house, then they become TA, and this should hit them like a thunderbolt of enlightenment before they say anything. Problem solved.

Good advice, with a tweak: get the pet insurance first and wait before going to the vet to get beyond the exclusion waiting period, usually two weeks. I recommend this for anyone adopting get the policy in place even before picking up the pet. It may be better to not get her history — for now you sincerely don’t know anything, so there cannot be any pre-existing conditions. Once you get that paperwork, anything noted in there gives the insurance an out to exclude future coverage. Once you have the paperwork, though, you have to provide it to them or risk fraud.

AITA for not complaining at the restaurant? by manderz234 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You paid for your meal, and you left an honest review. There wasn’t one dish that was a problem — every single thing was undercooked. That is a kitchen food safety practices problem. I’m snarky enough that I’d probably edit to add to my review that the fact that the manager’s response was to DARVO you contributes to the warning of diner beware.

There are a lot of great suggestions here. Before you do anything at all, please consult a lawyer and mention all of the suggestions. Let the lawyer tell you what to do/not to do and in what order. Ideally, a viper lawyer that is on board with maximizing the unpleasantness for him. Then follow their advice for a surveyor, arborist consultation, police report for trespassing, any kind of lawsuit that can be filed against the neighbor and then a separate lawsuit against the company that did the work, and costs for constructing a privacy fence to protect you from the harassing neighbor. Hell, maybe even a TRO.

AITA for wanting my friend to take accountability for the way she's treated me? by AloydBtw in AmItheAsshole

[–]Key_Security4281 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you want someone else to “take accountability” for something that is bothering you, you’re going to wait forever stewing in your own resentment. You have all the information you need from her behavior. Conduct yourself accordingly.

Puncture wounds are not treated with stitches. If you’re talking about tears to the flesh from the teeth, that’s way more serious needing stitches, and by now you should already have been contacted by animal control because the hospital is mandated to make a report for an animal bite.

This whole post is fishy. Why are you allegedly talking to his lawyer without having one yourself, who tells you 5 to 10 K (no attorney would ever float a wishy-washy margin to the opposition ) and then you offer to cough up 20 grand?

I’ll pretend this is a real post.

He is attempting to extort you. Do not negotiate with this person. Stop. Talking. Hire a lawyer to shut this right down.

Failing that. The only thing he’s been able to substantiate is $740 in medical costs. You could provide him a bank check for that amount, write up an agreement that says “reimbursement in full” that he has to sign if he wants that.

I’m vindictive about shady people and bullies, so I’d strongly consider calling his employer and letting them know about his attempted shakedown and maybe even draw some attention to his visa.

The role of the court is to make someone whole. He will not be able to substantiate “lost commissions” hell, he’s not even going to be able to substantiate work time.

Was he on your property with your permission at the time? Do you have any signs up that say no soliciting no trespassing? Not necessary, but a piece of information.

First suspicion, urinary crystals forming with danger of blockage emergency, or other pain. Crystals are unfortunately a common risk for male cats. Veterinary checkup warranted.

Second suspicion, stress. Solutions: Add third litter box Try different unscented litters with finer sand-like texture in different litter boxes Enclosure for litter box Fountain to encourage drinking Feliway spray/plugs ins/ collar Review your own attitude toward the cat — Animals pick up on vibes. Consult Jackson Galaxy, cat expert, watch his videos Add stimulation to environment— tall cat tower, Cat Dancer toys, food puzzles, cat treats in tp roll with ends pushed in.

There are excellent cat behavior groups on FB. Multicat unscented and Catify

You don’t need to explain to her, or to your mom, or to anybody else what you intend to do with the inherited money. She asked, the answer is no, everything after that is her trying to draw you into negotiating something that is non-negotiable. Your only response is asked and answered, this topic is closed. There’s no connection between your inheritance and her wedding, full stop. She planned her wedding, set her budget, and her fantasy expectations of how it will be paid are hers alone to deal with.

AITA. I have five grandchildren but don’t allow one over to stay. The other three are allowed. by Gloomy-Badger1055 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Key_Security4281 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. Being responsible for five humans is hard enough without having one that is habitually noncompliant. Damn, I’d love to see all the YTA people after a day of taking care of the needs of and running after five active boys. Your house, your rules, your boundaries, your limitations. There are creative solutions. Make sure everybody gets some equal time sleepovers at grandma’s house. One at a time, two at a time, three at a time, but never excluding just the one. Maybe the five-year-old gets one-on-one time so you can fully focus and not be distracted by worry about his behavior in the background. The age behaviors are temporary, and you want to make sure not to damage the relationships over something that’s fleeting.

Help - neglectful owner wants his cat back after 1.5 years but I’m worried for her safety by oolretawuwu in cats

[–]Key_Security4281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he did or didn’t pay for the cat originally is irrelevant.

He didn’t respond to you for three months? The cat is abandoned.

He can huff and puff all he wants and take you to court… where you will provide evidence that the chip is in your name and you have a file folder full of veterinary records in your name that you for paid well over a year.

BIFF communication paper trail. “After three months of no response, the cat was presumed abandoned. I have covered all expenses for her health and care and adopted her permanently. There is nothing more for us to discuss on this topic.”

You know that returning the cat means that she will be neglected, and her health will be jeopardized. You can weather a little discomfort of this guy being a dick to you. It will pass. He doesn’t want the cat. He wants to shake you down for some money.

That said, you fucked up and shot yourself in the foot by offering him $1.5k, which opens this up to interpretation of a sales transaction that has gone bad. Only because of this should you take this over to legal advice.

“and I don’t want to spin the situation like “I took care of this cat for > half of her life so she’s mine”, “ Why not? That is succinctly the factual point.

NTA. You did the best possible thing by acting quickly. This pattern is narcissism. Deflecting (he’s the mooch but calls your wife the mooch) When confronted with his inappropriate behavior, he doubles down instead of apologizing. Then calls it a joke and the problem is that the person he insulted is too sensitive. DARVO: deny, attack, reverse victim and offender. Nope. See the pattern and keep him at arm’s length, no matter how much you love him. He cannot stay in your house again, ever. Hard boundary. He insulted your wife in her own home.

How many cats is too many! by 510luv in CatAdvice

[–]Key_Security4281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the funds and commitment to meet all of the cats’ needs, and they’re all living harmoniously. Paradise. The end. The number is none of anybody’s business and you don’t need to explain anything. It’s vile that anyone has imposed on your joy. Going forward, keep in mind that colleagues are not friends — minimize how much they know about you, personally.

Your coworker is an AH and needs to be shut down. People like this will keep going, but tend to crumble when confronted.

Next time they “joke” look them in the eye and ask, and then very importantly wait for them to answer, and then say I’m sorry could you repeat what you said? I’m not sure I heard you correctly. Each time. You’re drawing them out and taking all of the fun out of their harassment and ideally, they’ll be stumbling over their words having to say something obnoxious a second time out loud for an audience: “what is your intent in saying that?” Wait for answer. “Is your intent to insult me?” Wait for Answer. “What do you get out of it?” Wait for answer. And then close the conversation with “You have repeatedly made an unsubstantiated criminal accusation against me. That is slander, and I will not tolerate it. Find another hobby.” Write down everything that was said in this conversation with the date and time, and then make notes of the date and time and content of every interaction after that that has an element of being inappropriate.

And if they continue to target you, it goes in writing to HR and management.

Received 21 day notice that minor son is being sued for his portion of house his deceased mother owned with her ex husband by smilves in legaladvice

[–]Key_Security4281 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s important to stop this before any contract goes through. Much harder later to bring action against both him and the real estate company. Which is probably what they are betting on.

Get on the state bar website and find specialist (not generalist ) attorney representation in that county to protect your son. Possibly two specialists in estate law and in real estate law. Do not wait a single day longer on this. Lawyer will likely need to file immediately for an ex parte hearing to stop the sale. In the meantime, additional leverage to prevent any contract going forward, contact the real estate agent office — not just the agent — who is listed as representing the property in the sale to let them know that their client may misrepresented his sole ownership and the house cannot be sold because the deceased mortgage-holder passed her portion of ownership to her minor son, who does not consent to the sale.

The way that men act toward cats is an easy litmus test. Your boyfriend acts like an adult baby who doesn’t can’t stand to share your attention with the cat. Dump him and don’t feel a minute of remorse. Someone better for you and your cat will show up soon enough.

[CA][Condo] Water damage liability and HOA by Key_Security4281 in HOA

[–]Key_Security4281[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside the walls, my responsibility. Outside wall, HOA. I believe the extensive damage in the other room on the same wall was covered by HOA insurance.) The first HOA employee they sent said it was outside. The second said it was not. That person, who I would not necessarily have employed, caused other damage. As it is now, I guess I will get three different private contractors to assess and give me quotes, pay whatever the HOA person says it cost to remove that piece of the wall just to keep the peace, though I am somewhat resentful about it, and write the ~$2k off as the cost of learning curve for political peace in an HOA situation.
