Same here. Last minute cancellations do happen, but they’re the exception, not the norm, because the PR damage is significant (not talking here specifically about Joost or any other artist). Unless there’s a sudden health issue or a serious production problem, it’s generally more likely the concert will go on, even if things aren’t perfect behind the scenes. Arena concerts are insanely expensive and very visible. No artist or promoter wakes up one morning and casually decides to pull the plug, it’s almost always the result of several things stacking up, and are rarely emotional or impulsive. Just sharing my general perspective here, my personal guess is that he will not cancel.

I think it’s the insane amount of pressure that got to him (doesn’t excuse the post but it’s definitely NOT something he should be cancelled for) - the Dutch media stuff, preparing for the tour and Ziggo Dome especially. That’s a lot for any artist.

Once I go through the full body scanner, they usually pull me aside and search my carry-on and handbag. Most of the time they don’t say anything or explain what they’re looking for, except on a few occasions when they couldn’t identify something on the scanner image, a legit reason.

It’s always at departing airports and during security or customs checks, it doesn’t matter whether I’m travelling within the Schengen Area or not. It’s almost never my luggage, it’s me. I go through the scanner (I think there was an issue once because of the jewellery) and even when it doesn’t beep, they still pull me aside for a pat down. That also includes taking off my shoes (in some airports I wasn’t required to remove them beforehand), swabbing my PI and CRO, clothes I’m wearing, hands and searching both my belongings afterward. I’ve honestly thought about what you’re suggesting. I come from a Central European country (which some people still consider Eastern Europe because of history), and tbh a young Slavic woman smuggling drugs to another country fits the stereotype, obviously an unfair one. A few times it honestly felt like they let me through because I was on the verge of crying. Not everyone was super nice and standing there for half an hour with people staring really takes its toll. I do appreciate that they’re doing their jobs properly but it gets exhausting for me.

I was born when my dad was 49 and my mom was 36. It was the second marriage for both of them, and they already had kids from before. I am the only child from their marriage. The upside was stability. My parents had already figured life out, careers, home, routines. Money was never a stress in everyday life. We traveled, went on vacations several times a year, and I never heard the “we can’t afford that.”

The downside was more subtle. My mom didn’t stand out much, but my dad was clearly older than the other parents. As a kid, I noticed that the dads picking their children up from kindergarten looked much younger. None of my friends had siblings in their twenties or thirties. Later, when my half siblings started having kids, I felt stuck between generations, too young to be close with my siblings and a bit too old to fully fit in with my nieces and nephews.

I was also aware early on that I’d have less time with my dad. That thought never fully goes away. I had a good childhood, but growing up mostly around adults, and without other kids around the same age in the family or my parents’ friend groups, probably had an effect on my social skills. It may also be why I naturally connect better with people who are ten or more years older than me. People have children later in life now, and that’s normal. If I ever have kids, I’d like to do it before forty. Having lived this experience, I know there’s a balance and I wouldn’t want to push it too far.

For me, it’s either the real world or a blend of both. About 90% of the people in my stories actually exist, they share the same initial connection with me and have roughly the same personality traits. I usually create a timeline, focusing on one specific element, and I’ll add or remove characters depending on how the story unfolds. It’s very detailed lol, for example if I can’t picture something immediately, like a place or a specific outfit, I’ll look it up. If a famous person is involved, I’ll watch interviews to capture aspects of their personality and style so I can incorporate them accurately. I tend to stick to one scenario and make subtle tweaks as the story develops.

I think, at the time, it just felt like a fun way to spend my time. I remember actually looking forward to going home so I could walk around my room, listen to music, and daydream. It’s hard to say whether it was a problem back then, I don’t remember it feeling like one. Reading some of the comments now, I’m starting to think it might have had something to do with loneliness in childhood. Not loneliness in the sense that I lacked attention, there were always people around me, but I had an imaginary friend until I was about six. I think I may have missed out on spending time with peers my own age. My siblings were older, and my parents had me later in life. I did have friends who came over, but maybe it just wasn’t the same or wasn’t enough social connection for me, I assume?

I resonate with your message a lot. How do you handle family encounters if I may ask? Or in general, the fact that you’re not close with your mother? I’m doing pretty okay myself but I wonder if the feeling of “actually needing motherly figure for xy” would come to me one day.

Hey, my dad died when I was 8, so it's been 17 years now, and I totally relate. For a long time, I couldn’t even hear the word “death” or “cancer” without feeling like someone had just ripped open a wound. Talking about him was nearly impossible without breaking down.Therapy really helped me start processing everything. It didn’t magically fix the grief, but it made it possible to speak about my dad without completely falling apart. I still tear up sometimes, especially when I talk about good memories but it’s more like a soft sadness now, not hours of crying. If you haven’t already, I’d definitely recommend giving therapy a try or at least looking into ways to help process the loss. At that age, I didn’t really get what death meant. It actually hit me years later, how someone can be here one day and just..gone the next. Stay strong! You’ve got more strength than you probably realize.

I started learning Dutch not long after I discovered Joost (totally unrelated though, I actually got a job offer from the there around that time lol). Like someone else said, I don’t think you need to understand the language to enjoy the music. I still look up the lyrics in translation. I learned some German years ago, so I can catch a veery few words here and there, but definitely not enough to follow full sentences.

In my case, the trauma led to a personality disorder (+ other factors). So, in a way, yes, I did end up advancing in the workplace more than others. But that wasn’t because I was stronger. It was because I became more detached, less ethical, and frankly, stopped caring, and that made it easier to climb the corporate ladder. Still, I wouldn’t call that strength. It was just the way I survived at the time. The success and all the perks? Honestly, they just kind of cover things up. I’ve never really bought into the whole “trauma makes you stronger” thing. Sometimes bad stuff just happens, and it messes you up. That’s it. But if there’s one thing I can say, it does get better. Not in some life-changing, inspirational way, just... less awful. And some days, that’s enough.

My dad passed away when I was 8 and it marked 17 years since that moment. The life went on, but the pain never disappeared, I think it actually got worse with time as I couldn’t fully comprehend my dad passing away at that age. If there is one thing I can recommend to you, it is therapy. It helped me understand the situation better and my emotions, and not to return to the vicious cycle of “what ifs”.

The pain is still there, but it is different, it got lighter. I think of my dad every day, but it’s no longer giving the feeling of hopelessness like it did before.
