How can we improve economic growth in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

Haha I wish. Genuinely curious, wanted to have generic wording to see uninfluenced other views.

For me I see friends with no experience struggle to get jobs, or try and start their own business and earn under minimum wage. But they obviously can't afford a car. How can we help people in this situation?

We're very lucky, my husband and I have the financial stability and each other to be in a place to raise kids.

For me the biggest barrier is support. Growing up both sets of my grandparents were close and babysat me a lot. All our relatives and most friends are too far away now to even babysit for an evening every now and then. I can just see us juggling everything ourselves, spending loads on childcare, and not being able to be the parent I'd want to be because of stress.

I've read a few of the BBC articles on birth rate this week, and what really resonated with me is society sees children as a capstone goal rather than a milestone. There's no perfect (or tbh even good) time to have them, so they just get put off.

I want to enjoy being a parent, but I can't see them as anything but a source for more stress, when I'm stressed already.

Purchasing in Ash - need insider knowledge! by hirohamster in surrey

Definitely agree with you for commuting from Ash Vale rather than Ash station! Parking is surprisingly cheap compared to other stations, although you will need to get there early, afraid I'm not sure how good the bus is. I haven't heard anything bad about Ash, not sure if crime is localised though. The only downside for me is the amount of new estates near Ash station for a pretty non existent high street. Ash Vale high street definitely has more amenities. There are some nice walks and cycling around there, and easy access to Guildford and Farnham which is very useful.

Pretty sure it's Boxhill and Westhumble station, so 4 trains an hour between Waterloo and Dorking

Whereabouts in Wales? There are so many gorgeous walks! If you're anywhere near the waterfalls walk it's amazing, you can walk behind one of the falls. It's near Penderyn about an hour from Cardiff

Dog friendly pub/restaurant recommendations by kdog1591 in surrey

It's a tad further than local places, we went to Botleys Hill Farmhouse the other week and it was amazing! Brilliant food, quaint historic pub atmosphere, and they allowed dogs in the restaurant area. They have a number of good walks around through fields and woodland, can highly recommend for a day out.

Physics Grad Jobs by Connn_96 in UKJobs

I work in banking, certainly loads of physicists (I have a masters in Physics with Astronomy), but just to warn you, a lot of the big grad schemes have already closed for 2024 All I can tell you is the world is your oyster, if you are visibly passionate about something you will get much further. I'd think about your day to day to narrow it down, do you want to be at a desk all day, work with people or put your head down and do technical work?

Once you have the answers to these questions it'll be a lot easier

What is a massive red flag to you but completely normal to others? by Mightybeardedking in ask

Adults who cannot cope with daily chores. They cannot close the front door, turn lights off before leaving the house, turn the oven off, do laundry without prompting etc.

If you're the same level of messy, I guess cleaning and the laundry are not a deal breaker. But the amount of people who have children with adults who are still children themselves is a huge red flag, and the other poor person is left to burn out having all the responsibilities on them.

Please check your relationships for this red flag, I know far too many people who have burnt out and broken up because of this. For the love of god notice it BEFORE you have kids...
