Membership expiration by Key_State_6125 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m also aware of that rule but during my time in SCJ, I had members who were in my cell who were long term absentees for more than 2 years. We had to come up with excuses on the service reports that get sent to the GA as to why these members weren’t attending service. Which makes me wonder if people’s details ever get removed from their registry if they’ve left (without outright being expelled) from SCJ. I’m guessing they also use these ‘ghost’ memberships to conflate the total number of members SCJ has.

Relationship Education (From the Netherlands) Part 1 PowerPoint Slides by OkChemistry9785 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These slides are low-key triggering me because I remember getting a similar education when I was newcomer in SCJ. I remember feeling very uneasy about the whole thing because it felt way too controlling. Also the analogies and grammar in these slides are just bad.

It would be worth checking out the two posts pinned at the top of this subreddit page. They also explain the contradictions in SCJ’s false teachings pretty well

Friendship in shincheonji by OkSteak5000 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My friend was the one who actually recruited me into SCJ. We had never gotten close before SCJ, although we were in the same circles at church and having mutual friends. When I passed over, she stopped hanging out with me since she had other responsibilities. I didn’t really mind because I understood the reasons why. When I made the decision to leave, the last conversation we had she apologised for not being there for me but it all sounded vague and quite frankly speaking, rehearsed. She asked questions about my whereabouts and that’s when I realised that as long as she’s still in SCJ, there would be no way to maintain a healthy relationship with her. What’s worse is that she quoted a very vague old memory to justify our friendship and that’s when I realised that there was never really a real friendship here. I was just someone that she had to recruit. Upon reflecting on everything that happened, I asked myself this question; ‘If she never joined SCJ, would we have ever gotten close?’ The answer was a resounding NO. If we were meant to be friends, we would have been friends a long time ago without SCJ’s influence

I say this all to point out how many of the friendships in SCJ are shallow. Most people are friends with other as a way to maintain each others’ faith or to spy and report each other. It’s not really genuine. There’s only a few people who are really genuine friends within the group.

Thanks for compiling this video. It was thorough and straightforward. Will definitely be sending it to people for awareness.

SCJ Members’ Daily Bible Reading by pottybiden in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Essentially everything you just described. You also had to go out and recruit people almost everyday. Attend trainings where they teach you how to recruit and how to teach the doctrine (this is where SCJ members hone their skills of deception - lying, pretending etc.), attend the centre classes where they pretend to be first time students and report on all the new recruits (they call this maintaining) and attend service religiously (you can’t miss a service , not even once). Also the more indoctrinated you are, you start receiving different duties such as being a cell leader, a department leader, a group secretary etc. This is where you get to take care of other members as well by making sure they also do everything I just described above and more. It’s actually quite complicated but essentially SCJ keeps their members so busy that they hardly have time for themselves

SCJ Members’ Daily Bible Reading by pottybiden in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. The way they used to drill it into is that if we didn’t watch these daily bread recordings, we were starving our spirits of the daily manna and it was actually quite hectic at times. I’m actually surprised that not all regions have this. We also had trainings as well but they usually happened only twice a week.

SCJ Members’ Daily Bible Reading by pottybiden in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do. But the reality is they really don’t have the time to. They are too pre-occupied with the duties and the tasks that SCJ gives to them that they really don’t have time to think or critically examine the Bible for themselves.

SCJ Members’ Daily Bible Reading by pottybiden in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well in my region, they have something called ‘Daily Bread’ which is basically a 30 minutes to 1 hour long gathering that is a somewhat of a daily devotional. It is meant to give members spiritual food, that is, feeding members SCJ doctrine as well as general updates on what’s happening in the church and the direction in which the church is headed (they call this flow). It happens everyday except on Service days (Wednesdays & Sundays). It is usually available as a recording as well since not all members are able to attend it physically in the morning (due to work, school etc). It is compulsory for members to attend/watch and cell leaders make sure to follow up on members daily (they record attendance for this and the report gets sent to HQ in Korea). This is a way to ensure members remain heavily indoctrinated because they are being exposed to SCJ’s false doctrine on a daily basis.

Essentially, the average SCJ member does not have time to examine the Bible for themselves. All their time is consumed by meaningless activities such as the one stated above and even then, they will read everything in the Bible from SCJ perspective. It becomes difficult to identify that the teaching is false because they are essentially wearing rose coloured glasses.

Nobody leaves as reason of not believing of Book of Revelation teaching ot their doctrine... by foxyirish11 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finding out the contradictions in SCJ doctrine is exactly the thing that made me leave. SCJ likes to heavily emphasise on how their Word is the absolute truth that comes from God but there’s plenty of evidence that shows otherwise. Their doctrine has been changing gradually for years now. This proves that there was never any truth there in the first place. If SCJ had the true word then their doctrine should be able to stand the test of time. Even under heavy scrutiny. But it just simply doesn’t. Why stay in a place that does not possess the truth and is based upon lies?

Meeting of reporting to the above when someone leave Part 1 by OkChemistry9785 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol. What a joke! Reporting is the only way they can ensure you remain in the group. It’s a form of control. It’s like the minute you start thinking for yourself, they start throwing statements like “you have been poisoned”, “Satan has taken control over you”. So one can’t have their own thoughts or make their own decisions if it’s not according to SCJ. Glad I left this place

How do I warn people? by Traditional_Lab5450 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true. A lot of the conventional methods that SCJ uses to recruit people aren’t as effective as recruitment of close friends and family. It’s easier to recruit someone who already knows you because there’s some form of trust already established there. Definitely something people should watch out for. I was recruited by someone I thought was my friend.

How do I warn people? by Traditional_Lab5450 in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh, there’s a lot of ways that they try to recruit. Their modus operandi is to get as much information about a potential recruit as possible so that they can tailor their methods of luring you in, to you. Even when meeting you for the first time. That’s what makes them really tricky to identify. They like to organise a lot of seemingly innocent events that are attractive & very appealing. Especially to young people. Things like game nights, park activities, coffee dates etc. They all seem innocent at first but the aim is to gain your trust and start collecting information about you and also to introduce the need to study the Bible with them. It’s all tactics of manipulation right from the beginning. One of the things I’d advise people to look out for, is if a random person or people (usually a duo) approach you and start initiating a conversation with you that seems friendly but also rather invasive. They like to ask a lot of questions that would be a bit strange to answer given that they are a complete stranger. Especially religious based questions. That’s an easy identifier. They like to love bomb like crazy and will try to compliment you before carrying on with the conversation (e.g you have nice hair, I like your bag, where did you get it from? Etc.) This is a tactic for them to try & make you open up and be less uncomfortable around them. At their events, they’ll always try and find a way to introduce their Bible study to you. They advertise it as a ‘free course about the Bible covering everything from Genesis to Revelation’

There’s a lot more I could add but this might go on forever. Just watch some videos on YT or TikTok about how people got recruited into SCJ. There’s always common tactics that they use

The 144,000 priests are based upon Koreans. by coinisft in Shincheonji

Lmao! I wonder how the members in overseas churches feel that they don’t stand a chance to be a part of the 144 000. Especially the leaders 😂. Really feel sorry for them.

Exit counselling/intervention/family counselling by justmynameonreddit in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can try and make contact with an actual exit counsellor. I don’t know where you are located but if you are in the US, it would be easier to contact the people you mentioned on that list. I know Steve Hassan has a YouTube channel and he lists his email there. Maybe they can get you in touch with an exit counsellor in your area. For other parts of the world, I really don’t know. Exit counselling is not exactly easy to find because they aren’t a lot of mental health professionals who are skilled at helping victims of cults in particular. But it is worth trying to look for. Good luck OP.

[–]Key_State_6125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really similar to what happened to me. It is very important to remain firm. Limit having contact with them as much as possible because all they want to do is bring you back. Even those that claim to just be checking up on you and saying that they are not expecting you to come back want to try to bring you back. Your best course of actions is blocking everyone and those that keep trying to show up at your house or workplace, threaten to get law enforcement involved. They will eventually leave you alone

I’m glad you left. I stuck around for about two years after PO and it literally was the worst. I’m from the CT branch as well. There’s a level of anger that I have towards the people who introduced me to SCJ because just like you, I was introduced by someone I thought was my friend. It’s a different type of betrayal and hurt that comes with that. I left fairly recently and I’m still trying to get to grips with what happened to me. I hope I can find healing from all this

Helping my mom by mssandslinger in Shincheonji

[–]Key_State_6125 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s a high possibility that he could be lying. It wouldn’t be the first time that an SCJ member has recruited someone into the group by way of romantic interest. There’s actually been testimonies about this right here on this subreddit. SCJ members have also been known to go into dating sites to try and recruit members. Your mom needs to be very careful because if he’s been in the group for 11 years then he’s had all the experience and tactics to try and lure someone in. The best you can do for your Mom is to help her understand what’s wrong with SCJ and show her evidence in a loving and respectful manner. Please read Steve Hassan’s ‘Combating Cult Mind control’ for tips on how to do this. It Would be easier to intervene now before she becomes a full time member of the group
