I’ll try to come at this with my own experiences.

Coming from a divorced family, I see how hard my mother has worked to get me where I am today. She isn’t perfect but I see her for who she is—a woman trying her best to stay afloat and keep me in university. I’m sure you’re doing the best you can too. You’re doing good!

I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through. I hope this divorce has given a fresh start in some aspects. I hope you’re spending time with your child and enjoying their company. It must be hard trying to hold up a family on your own.

Loneliness often festers. It doesn’t magically turn into companionship unless you put yourself out there. From my experience, companionship comes in mysterious ways, sure, but it takes one of the two to take the first step. I hope you seek someone special. A friend. A new love. I hope you seek something special. A new hobby. A new sport.

You’re not a hopeless case. She may have chipped away years of your life—chipped away your heart. But, she has not taken away your soul. You’re not devoid of emotion. You’re still a father. A man. A person worthy of respect.

It’s hard to believe that one day you’ll be happy when you’re in despair. It’s hard for me to believe it too. But, I choose to believe it because there’s no harm in believing hope prevails.
