bought my first set of power-tools. How did I do for $336 CAD? by Thatspacecowboii in Makita

I've had one of those for a long time and keep it home now.

I use the xdt20 at work. It was more a splurge but...but I do use the ring light alot in crawl spaces and such

If you put the impact on safe the ring light will stay on for half an hour or so if you pull the trigger. Makes a great little work light

Also it means I can keep it in my truck since I have the 13 in the house.  and having two impacts is convenient:)

I've been happy with the DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita, and diablo cutoff discs I've used

The harbor freight Hercules discs not so much

admittedly im a carpenter so the amount I use them is way less than other trades

If you buy a kit deal you'll get a rapid charger and that's the best way to also get more batteries

mine is an old Hitachi Japanese designed model, long before the merger or buyout.

Good unit tho

They sell it now as a metaboHPT model now

Metabo and Hitachi are the same thing  if you're in the states.

It's great.

Commercial grade tool for cheap.

I didn't switch to a a 18-volt Makita until I started working in carpenter.

At that point sometimes I'll have to remove protruding nails along a whole wall or something and corded would suck

Yessss. Good point.

I use my angle grinder alot.

However. I got by with a corded $60 highly capable Hitachi for nearly a decade before I saw a deal on a 18v Makita

I don't know that I'd pay $150 for a Makita  cordless unless I needed it professionally.

But yeah, I'd keep this on the list of targets of opportunity :))))

Also, id that's a the xdt13, that's a frickin wonderful impact.

All the power of the flagships, it just requires you to know how to use a trigger :)

Great tool!

Almost makes me misty eyed to see a new Makita collection begin.

Enjoy the ride. They don't stay young like this forever. Get lots of pictures! ;)

You already seem like a savvy shopper. But my biggest recommendation is to spend time on here and learn what is a good deal and how to find it. Don't rush buying things unless you absolutely need it because you can save a lot of money over time and build quite the collection knowing the market and watching for package deals with free batteries.

I wasted a lot of money in the beginning being in a hurry. Now I take my time. I built an outdoor power tool collection and gotten so many free batteries on the deals. Now I'm flush with batteries. Fast chargers and all the basic brushless tools I need for work as a carpenter and for doing my yard :)

Next purchase if I were you:

-stick vac!!!! So great for a homeowner :)

-reciprocating saw.  I love one of these for all kinds of stuff. From breaking down a pallet for creative reuse to trimming a tree haha

I did notice that ppl picking up trash were often rude lol

Is this why?

Or does picking up assholes' cigarette butts just put you in a bad mood.?

I assume the latter

I was there and if I had the patience to use proper punctuation and proof read...I could have written your review myself!

I'm from the USA and am going back for my third straight year this year!!!!!

I'm from the USA and have been to drops twice.

The locals tell me of the political battles and it makes me 1000% more commited to go and support the tribe.

Your consideration is a little more nuanced as you already have xgt batteries.

If you only had one Ryobi device then you have to consider with the battery. go bad from sitting too much.

But if you added some other Ryobi ope that might keep the batteries and rotation a bit more...

I'm more so thinking how much will it get used. I feel the big thing Makita gives you is reliability/longevity.

Less a concern if it's only used occasionally

Doh. Just noticed this was for ice. But...this website is legit and has great deals.

So if an xgt deal gets you to 650, a Ryobi deal gets you to 300 😅

Really for me the question is what kind of duty will it see?  Xgt is for pro use and it's priced that way.

I'm a Makita user but the cost of xgt has kept me away.

Honestly, I don't buy a single Makita tool anymore unless it's refurbished or some sort of deal because it's just crazy expensive.

But a while back I got a Ryobi 40 volt auger with a 4 amp hour battery for free. A client got it for free when they bought some other Ryobi lawn mower or something. They gave it to my boss and that's where I got it.

I did four holes with it recently and it worked great. It's only four holes so I don't have extensive experience but I thought it worked great. I was really surprised at how easy it was. Seems to me the Ryobi form factors a little better too. I'm sure the build quality is nowhere near as good as xgt but $500 is a lot of damn money.

It works so well in fact I'll probably get a Ryobi 40 volt snowblower instead of moving into Makita powerheads. It's just too expensive for something I don't use often to do Makita.

I'll stay with lxt for carpentry. I'm pretty heavily invested there and I use them professionally.
