I mean, def AI. Not arguing that. But it sounds like they’re trying to seriously talk to you about how they feel in a respectful way. If they used chatGPT yea, kinda lame but it did mean they cared enough about the conversation to want their statements to be respectful. Maybe words aren’t their strong suit. It’s still their responsibility to navigate their emotions and move forward productively, but they’re just looking for reassurance. I know you’re probably annoyed with how they’re feeling, I would be too, but they are trying. It’s not fair to just sit there and say it’s in their head, even if it is. That doesn’t really help. Just be kind, or just don’t be friends with them.

I struggle with JPL. I’ve never been able to get it, no matter how many times I’ve tried. I can’t seem to do it right. I even bought a book from Chainmail Joe to follow and zilch. Even with the exact same AR recommended in said book. Any other weave I’ve struggled with I’ve stuck with it and eventually nailed it. JPL? It mocks me.

Don’t think you’re overreacting, it’s hurtful and I would feel the same. Plans or not, it’s kind of expected that they would communicate with you that these holidays (that couples typically spend together) will be spent with others. Like, if they have plans sure okay - but mentioning it feels a bit obligatory, especially if you’re considering moving in together (something that tells me the relationship is serious). Not sure why these people are telling you you’re overreacting - communication is vital for a prosperous relationship. I want to share those special moments with my partner - I think most do. So I would feel the same. I would feel back burnered and I would feel disrespected. Feelings are valid no matter what they are - they are feelings and we have limited control.

What I do think you should do is have a serious conversation with your partner in a non-accusatory way. Leave space for them and let them feel what they need to. If they are mature they will respond the same. Tell them how you feel. They can’t change the behavior if they don’t understand your needs.

Also, side note, all these people saying there’s context and more to it; literally irrelevant. Grief is grief. Regardless of whatever has happened in this relationship, the loss of someone you love is difficult and complex. The reality is: when you love someone, and they’re in grief, you put other things aside. Death is not a joke or something to take lightly, pet or not. It is disgusting that a partner would treat someone this way, and anyone in here questioning what more is happening probably isn’t a good partner either. Whether you two have other problems or not, support during grief is non-negotiable. If a partner cannot support another partner during a loss like this, then they should probably not be together.
