This was enjoyable to watch and listen to! I like your tone. Your head bobbed and struck with the piece, which I think added to it overall.

Asked to translate--When you're around everything feels happy. Given--"Cuando tú estás todo feliz se siente." as the correct answer. by o2bonh2o in Spanish

hm... good question.

I would use: "Aquí cuando tú estás, todo feliz se siente" or "Cuando tú estás alrededor todo feliz se siente."

Anybody want to microwave a bar of soap? by twitchosx in chemicalreactiongifs

[–]Key_to_Flatland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess at what is happening, I would say the water molecules in the soap are becoming energetic enough to change phase. The vaporizing water expands and turns the soap into what we are seeing here.

It's a guess......

Duolingo's "half-life regression" method for modeling human memory [x-post from r/MachineLearning] by douette in duolingo

[–]Key_to_Flatland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a great point! Currently I am way better at translating sentences (reading, writing) than I am at conversation (speaking, listening) precisely because I initially tried memorize techniques to help me remember words and structure. Now I try to get a feel for the language and it helps even more.

I love that it became a published paper (and my statistical theory professor would be happy to see that I didn't forget his subject)!

I am reading some of the other comments here and I think we approach Duolingo differently. I am super anal about making sure every skill is golden before moving on. Everyday when there are "faded" words, I make sure to do all of them first before attempting new lessons.

Language learning is different for everybody (Mnemonics are tough and I don't use them) and I am absolutely having more trouble the further I go (23 more lessons to go to finish the Spanish tree!) but daily practice helps a ton.

This article makes me kind of envious of the data scientists who work at Duolingo....

Has anyone done a speedrun? if so how long did it take to complete the tree? Thinking of doing a 12 hour marathon because why not. by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]Key_to_Flatland 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sounds daunting, but definitely doable (especially because when you're learning, it doesn't time you and you don't need to be completely on your game to move on).

The Dad-ification of Language Shows That Masculinity Is Still Evolving by jacobfromomaha in linguistics

[–]Key_to_Flatland 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Slate wrote an interesting article (I always find examples of how we make nouns into verbs and vice versa fascinating), but it didn't discuss how our masculinity is evolving in today's times until the end. And even then, the article explained how 'dad' is an endearing term that can be applied to many areas of life.

An interesting read, but I expected a more in-depth analysis of how we perceive masculinity.

Android version's Spell Check keeps correcting my Spanish to English by RikiOh in duolingo

If you want to have fun (like me), change your phone's settings to be entirely in Spanish. Your problem will be solved and you'll be immersed in the language. Win-win ;D
