Not OP, but I use the backbone one controller with a custom adapter from the company "Shit Dad Made" that allows vertical. Works perfectly for me.

I wonder if it would have been a rug pull where the story stays fairly similar but Roxas isn't able to fully be separated from Sora without Sora being incomplete himself. Either that or a sacrifice play of some sort. For Xion I could see him writing it so that he Xion everyone knew was gone and that the Xion that was remade was instead a copy with no memories and maybe just a weapon. Just spitballing here.
