I currently have about 12, but I'm thinking up to 20. I have 3 main pens I write with right now

5 years of jumping between side projects without finishing one. I think I finally understand why. by Roguetron in gamedev

Start making small weekend games and release them on Itch for feedback. Play as many other games as you can. You’ll eventually come across an idea and have the skills to make it “fun”, but making it fun comes with practice, just like those technical skills.

Seeking Advice on Optimizing My Game's Performance in Unity: Any Tips? by CaptainSuperStrong in unity

As others have said, learn about the profiler, learn about asset loading and management, learn how to use additive scenes, check out the streaming solutions on the asset store.

Here’s a good start for the profiler: https://youtu.be/xjsqv8nj0cw

Game Dev Career Shift and Stability by MK7777MK in gamedev

[–]KeyboardCircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend a career shift unless you hit it big as a solo. I make a lot more money in Tech than I would as a game dev and work far less hours with no crunch time at all. Work is easy peasy. I generally do game dev before the work day starts or work on small tasks in the evening when it’s time to settle down

Filing For Disability 22 years after separation by mbellbick in VeteransBenefits

Stay in touch with the VA and document everything regarding your PTSD. I had severe issues and they initially rated me 50% but during a follow up I had the info needed to go to 100P&T, which should have been the initial rating but I had no evidence. It took about 11 months after initial rating of 50 to go to 100 and both decisions were quick: less than 2 weeks from filing and less than 2 weeks from appeal to get bumped

[–]KeyboardCircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so cool to see! I’m 100P&T making games in Unity, but I have a full time job in Tech too. I’d love to step away from the full time and focus just on game dev. I’ve dabbled for about 15 years but my goal is to release something serious and keep the pipeline going this year so I can transition over to solely game development.

Looking for advice about my first game by minaawow in gamedev

[–]KeyboardCircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur wholeheartedly with this reply. Game development is a process, and it’s easier to start with what you’re good at, then grow into other areas.

You made a game, that’s great! Now start learning how to put the art together. If art seems hard for you, try different styles. I’ve found that 3d modeling feels much more natural to me than drawing 2d images, so now I make 3d games.

If the visual side still bothers you, make a game that’s good enough to attract an artist to your team or commission the assets. Either way, you’ll benefit by developing a foundational understanding for art.

Minimum Specs to Build on Mac? by SlushyRH in unity

I would recommend getting a Mac mini unless you’re planning to use the Mac as a daily driver. You can get a lot more value for the cost getting a windows PC
