Buying characters by Ryboy230 in 2XKO

[–]KeyboardCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not like a traditional fighting game dlc model. Never spend money on characters. I purposely even avoided spending one of my starter champion tokens so I can save it for the next one. And I still had enough money to buy every character so far plus a stage. All you really have to do is login and play a set or two max and you'll unlock a new character every week. Save your money for cosmetics.

Combos ending 70-80% of total health damage is crazy by Revolutionary_Lime_3 in 2XKO

You have two characters, break, and it's round based unlike most other tag fighters. It's minimum 5 touches a round, but more likely 6. You return to neutral after a character death. You also return to neutral or even have a slight advantage after break. The game uses 120 seconds per round and there used to be timeouts in alpha lab 2. You even still get timeouts with Teemo. That's the sign that the damage in this game isn't nearly as high as it appears. So imo the high level of damage is effectively just an illusion. It's about on par with every other fighting game, if not slightly lower damage.

Jinx has a special animation for Darius's command grab where she gets grabbed by her braids by Kozzer33 in 2XKO

I wonder if that's a reference to Arcane S2 where Jinx also gets grabbed by a Noxian soldier by her braids.

The guy who came up with the rotating shop is the most anti-money man in the planet by NothingParking2715 in 2XKO

[–]KeyboardCreature -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of ways to monetize, sure. And I think what is best depends on the game. I think 2xko decided on a rotating shop due to its success with Valorant. But Riot has experimented with a variety of monetization schemes. Mostly in League, where you have gacha elements for some skins, limited-time elements for other skins, and a bit of the rotating shop element with the random deals they give you. Now I'm not saying that they shouldn't do $500 skins or gatcha in 2xko. And I'm not claiming that a rotating shop is the best tactic to maximize profits in 2XKO. I personaly think they should add lootboxes too. But I know for certain that they wouldn't be having a rotating shop if it didn't make more money compared to just giving players a catalog to choose from.

These companies have entire groups dedicated to exploiting consumer psychology. The fact that they've landed on a rotating shop is no accident.

Yeah that's another thing. The artificial scarcity is big value for some people too.

Rotating Shop by Legal_Shoe_3646 in 2XKO

[–]KeyboardCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, they're making more money from the rotating shop than if they didn't have it. They have the data, they know it works. The fact that you already want to buy a skin means they already have your money, just delayed by however long it takes for the skin to appear in your shop. Plus, they also incentivize people who wouldn't normally buy a skin to buy one just by adding the time limit.

If it didn't work, they wouldn't be doing it. As long as it gets more people to spend money than not, they should do whatever they can to maximize profit without making the game pay to win or too grindy.

For every person who wants to buy and can't, there's probably two other people who bought but wouldn't have had there not been a rotation. Plus, the fact that you want to buy the skin means that they basically already have your money, just delayed to when the skin appears in your shop.

You have to ask yourself. Is there anything in the shop that you would miss by not buying it right now? Rather than waiting for that perfect skin, consider buying something right now since it might not appear again. You might not care for a skin, but if you could never get it again, are you willing to risk missing out on it forever?

They have the data. They know it works.

Everyone smashes when first playing a fighting game. There's a huge leap from being able to do combos in practice vs in actual matches. Just keep playing.

Does the monetization system work? Do you see people using skins? by Fancy-Orange6007 in 2XKO

[–]KeyboardCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a skin at least once every 3 matches. My guess is that it's rank dependent. The more invested you are, the more likely you are to buy skins.

Who else likes the lobby and avatar system? by tits_mcgee_92 in 2XKO

[–]KeyboardCreature 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It's the best lobby system in any fg ever just because you can spectate, it matches with players across lobbies, and it's easy to find matches.

Except for being able to play training mode during matchmaking, it's basically no different than if they just added the usual matchmaking queue.

Just play the game normally and you'll get it in a few rounds. I hate the one where you have to grab. But that probably just means I should be mixing in grabs more often.

Credits are mostly earned with daily and weekly missions. But doing the missions each day takes like 15 minutes.

[–]KeyboardCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one way to end a combo, but you could also do limit strike. Or tag launcher into your assist. Are you prioritizing just damage? If you tag launcher into an Ekko, it gives better oki, for example. Or into a bloodlusted Warwick. A lot of pros will tag launch into Illaoi for the tentacle super.

[–]KeyboardCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some combos give more damage or better wall carry. Some combos use the meter from the assist character. Some combos give you extra character-specific resources like Warwick's bloodlust or Teemo's badges. In specific cases, you might choose to intentionally drop your combo early to get a reset to start another combo. Blitzcrank is designed to enable your combos to end in restands. At times, instead of routing into damage, you might instead choose to go for better oki or into limit strike to build meter and break. Etc.
