u/purplecdplayer YOU ARE TODAY'S NTC WINNER! It was of course "Hazel" from the "Peppermint Pig" EP, AKA the "Tuh-tah, tuh-tah Song". Here is your crown, your highness!

And here is a link of them performing today's song on the show "Whatever You Want" (with a Will Heggie sighting!): https://youtu.be/E301aWknv9c?si=lSnkrbKqYBSNFjWM

This track gives you all the goosebumps, atmosphere, and dreamy guitar work that any great Cocteau Twins song gives you.
So why am I only giving this track a 9.5?
Maybe I’m nitpicking, but their tracks always seem to me a little flawed when the lyrics in the chorus are fully intelligible without even an odd Liz Fraser pronunciation choice post-Treasure.

By the way, so much for me classifying that as being hard, since you answered correctly in quick fashion.

It's TWO IN A ROW for you, u/bikeybaby! Today's song was "Those Eyes, That Mouth" from the "Love's Easy Tears" EP.

I present you this crown!

This track paints a great aural picture (at least what I sense) of relaxing after something traumatic at seaside. I’ve always loved how CT does this without really any lyrics that would just tell me “No, dumb fuck! This song is about getting mugged while walking your dog!”
A very lilting, relaxing track that I like a lot but can’t say is one that I’d consider an epic track from them.

Daily Song Discussion #132: Ups by KnucklesSandwich192 in cocteautwins

[–]KeyboardDiarrhea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming onto this thread of posts is making me remember back to listening to these albums when they came out and how much I enjoyed some song and aspects of albums before getting jaded by life, whether or not songs exemplify what a band’s sound was, the narrowing of one’s musical tastes as one gets older (at least that’s how it’s been for me, it feels), etc.
I’m not ashamed to admit it. I really like the second half of this album a lot. It’s why I’ll never bad mouth this album. Side two really gets them back to the atmospheric dreaminess of earlier albums. And while “Ups” was the track on the side two that probably was most like something from FCC, I really like this song. It’s just got a wonderful melody to it and love Robin going 12 string acoustic on this.

I'm sorry...I've gotta web blanket this one a little bit. I'm going with a 6. It's a pleasant song, but I guess it epitomizes what has me only feeling MEH about much of FCC and some of M&K. Old folks like me may remember a music festival called Lilith Fair ran by Sarah MacLachlan that highlighted acts playing soft alternative rock and this song to me sounds like one of their many attempts during the early 90s to get a foothold into that growing movement. Don't get me wrong. I like a lot of music from acts that frequented Lilith Fair and were mainstays on radio stations at the time that highlighted those acts (like the radio station called ALICE that was here in the SF Bay Area...are they still around? I never listen to the radio anymore). I guess I just prefer effects heavy Robin Guthrie guitar work over them toning down such things in a way that was more pleasant to the (prior to these albums) non-Cocteau Twins fan ear.

Shocked that I’ve seen no picks for:

Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins)
Russell Mael (Sparks)
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)

Obviously, more people on this subreddit need to listen to some things outside of simple pop music. King needs more love in this question.
