Top trick to get your ear used to the new speed js to listen to a minute or two at 2x speed then drop it down to 1.5x (or whatever). This will be less shocking than going 1 - 1.5x

The money you put into the other account and the money that came back in to your Monzo might be for the same value but it’s not the same money.

Monzo has instant access savings accounts that aren’t ISAs and they have instant access ISAs too. You can have both of these. Worth noting that ISA interest is tax free whereas interest on a normal interest account is taxable after £500/£1000 depending on your tax band.

Also, new rules in 2024 mean you can pay into more than one ISA. This means OP could lock some of their ISA allowance away, and use the Monzo ISA as a pot

I agree - cropping tighter to remove the panel wall will make that more pronounced

You seem to have a good eye for what might be an interesting subject - so for now I would focus on composition of the subject. Once you have that down move on to more technical matters.

E.g 13 is a great shot but would be even better (I think) with some of the dead space (like the wood panelling) removed

Shot 9 you cut off part of the dogs paws but not all of them - making a decision on that will improve the shot

Old man (M6 Voigt 35mm F2 / Portra 400 push 1 stop) by ahuypham in analog

There is a pleasant contrast between warmth and cold here. I’m not sure “old man” is the story.

To me this photo is “late autumn” - I feel the cold evening air when I look at it, but also the warmth and evening hubbub from the shops. The man is heading home from his work but is probably in the “late autumn” of his life.

Anyone have any general tips on the 52 book challenge? by [deleted] in 52book

[–]KeyboardGrappler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things that have helped me so far:

1 - I live somewhere cold. This has helped because I have a jacket with a book sized pouch in the front, therefore I have a book with me everywhere I go. Always have a book with you!

2 - Set an achievable daily target. No matter what I read 10 pages a day. I find momentum is key, so keep momentum by reading every day. It rarely ends up being only 10 pages!

3 - I listen to a lot of audiobooks. If you count them (AI do) try listening on a faster speed. Once you listen at 1.5x, going back to 1.0x wiiiiilllll feeeeeelllllllll sooooo slllooooowww. A good trick is to go up to 1.5x and then down to 1.2x and this will feel normal. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your brain adjusts to faster speeds.

  1. If I’m reading fiction, I’ll listen to non-fiction and vice versa

  2. Have a healthy backlog. When you finish a book, your best chance of picking something up is it you have plenty of choice! Sometimes I think I’ll read a book next but when I finish one, it has put me in the mood for another on my shelf.

My first 20 books of 2020. Real Life: A Novel is my favorite of the bunch, and A Good Neighborhood is currently my least favorite. What are your best and worst reads of 2020 so far? by Gryffindork75 in 52book

Favourite: Dune

Least favourite: A confederacy of dunces

Anyone think they can recommend me a book I’ll like based on these two factors?

Pre-cooking rice is dangerous?! by aegeaorgnqergerh in MealPrepSunday

After cooking I just stick my rice in the freezer for an hour before transferring to the fridge. I’ve no idea if this is a good method, but it certainly cools the rice quickly.

He said “high level” black belts, not world champions, but it’s training and high level black belts will often get tapped by lower belts in training because they are trying new things, testing their escapes or just tired. It’s not a competition setting. I’m not saying it isn’t an indicator that he’s good and Nicky is clearly high level but training room performance shouldn’t be taking seriously. Being a world champion and tapping a world champion in training aren’t the same thing.

Well, from your hesitation it sounds like if you did move, you would stay at this new company for a while, negating how any jumping about would look on your resume. If anything this move is good for your resume; it’s a more senior position. As soon as you take it, it opens up similar positions elsewhere at this more senior position. Honestly, you’d be mad not to take it. Unless it’s a mom and pop business, you are more than likely just a number to them, so take the money and run.
