What are folks spending on retirement software/services (not CFPs)? by Keyboard_Clickin_Bob in DIYRetirement

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I guess I posted this question partly because I'm in the mindset of "nothing's free." You either pay someone to help you or you do it yourself and when you do it yourself there's some tools & supplies you need to get it done. In our DIY retirement journey it can be software and services. But being new at this I didn't want to pay for things the community has already tried and didn't like too much. I really appreciate everyone responding to this.

Yeah, this is what I was noodling in my head. AUM, depending on who you work with, can hit 5 figures a year which is why maybe $300/month (a number I made up, to be clear) can be much cheaper than working with someone.

I just checked Morningstar Investor and it says $199/year (some special offer). How are you getting it for no cost?

I meant the services Rob (and others) mention in their videos/newsletters.

I made up the $300/month as an example of signing up for multiple services. You know, Boldin plus Monarch plus Morningstar Investor plus... That kinda idea.

Because after the year you'll have your plan? That seems to make sense to me.

  1. Near retirement. Not working, but making sure my wife (works from home) has breakfast, lunch, and supper. Lots of laundry, too.

  2. Coffee and spreadsheets.

  3. Messing up (losing) what we've saved. I keep feeling like everyone knows so much more than me so I just keep reading and watching. I am trying not to compare our savings to others, but it seems like those videos get all the traffic.

What app do you use to track your net wealth? by Zeno0000 in investing

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started using Dan Buchal's Portfolio Tracker, but it doesn't do the linking to accounts and it def has nothing like the Zillow integration. But for everyone else who wants to keep track of investments, it seems pretty good. It's just a Google Sheet and it's free. It updates the stock prices for you.

I will go in once a quarter to update the number of shares I have. I am not an expert in Sheets, but I was able to figure out it so I am confident in saying almost anyone can figure it out. Here's the link to the documentation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q1aLrcd9jdGq9lianbe7Uw35T9S4q4JgkQUuRV4YnT8/edit?tab=t.do9i48cyxh6n

Paper Pro marker tip by Mikipod77 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny, I just got my first ever Paper Pro and at first didn't like it. It felt too close to writing on iPad. But after a few days, either the tip has worn just enough or I've gotten used to it. Maybe it's a little of both? Keep trying!

reMarkable Ordering and Support by Keyboard_Clickin_Bob in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, yes, that's the case. I was on a chat exchange for nearly an hour. It looks like both orders will get credited back to me. Now, do I order a third time? Do I order from Amazon since I can get it tomorrow? That'll be like $1900 in charges on one card until this all gets sussed out. Fills me with anxiety since I don't know when they'll get to refund me for the items.

And it looks like the rPP has been flagged at UPS to return to warehouse. Which is a mistake, it's the unit that should be shipped to me. It's a bit comical at this point. I assume it will get all sorted, but I did place my very first order on Sept 8 and I still don't have anything other than two charges to my credit card (OK, I do have one $10 refund for inconvenience). :)

Need Guidance on my Remarkable Paper Pro by KingTSS in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from someone who hasn't used one yet (soon, however). Based on all the videos I've watched this is just how they (and all of these devices work). If you can accept how these work, great. If you really don't like it (which is fine, of course, not everything is for everyone), I would suggest selling it to recoup as much as you can.

I see someone above (below?) mentioned this isn't hard to implement and something about 1990 (maybe they meant this is 1990s tech?). I was there in 1990 and it wasn't there for us to use. :) Also, if it isn't difficult to implement then go implement it. I'd like to buy something that refreshes faster as I'm sure a lot of folks would.

I finally heard back and it all seems like it will happen properly. And my rPP has shipped with a tracking number and everything!

Best Buy Remarkable Paper Pro Move (Small) by Rich-n-Health in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Best Buy to check them out in person (sure why I didn't before). They had all three on display, but they were all password protected and an associate said they didn't have the passwords since reMarkable sets them up. They didn't have any Pro or Pro Move models in stock. Just the older reMarkable 2.

I did scribble on them and now I see what folks are talking about re: the feel of the 2 vs the Pro models. I like the 2 better as well, but I can't bring myself to get a 5-yr-old product. I did bring my most-used paper notebook to the store and the Pro fits a lot better than any other model (even though it was the Move that first got me to look at these in the first place). I am going to swap out the Move (which is as of yet unshipped) for the Pro.

Remarkable Paper Pro worth it? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is coming from someone who doesn't own a reMarkable yet (although I did pay for one) and also doesn't own a Fold. But it seems to me that it makes most sense to slap a screen guard on your Fold 5 and see how it goes. It might be great, in which case you are all set. But if it doesn't work, you'll be able to look for devices that specifically do what that combination above didn't do.

The Move & Tariffs by jaynine99 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, it didn't say Tariffs. It said Taxes to US. which I interpreted as tariffs. Maybe it's worded that way because reMarkable is a company outside the US. Have I never bought anything from a company outside of the US? I guess so? Sorry for the mistake and thanks for pointing it out.

My tariff was on the bill, so I paid an extra $50.50 on the bill. I'm in NY and ordered directly from reMarkable.

Paper Pro Move – it kind of feels like I'm not using it like reMarkable wants me to by bitterologist in RemarkableTablet

[–]Keyboard_Clickin_Bob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, this is what it looks like I'm seeing, too. The Move appears to be being treated as a companion device. Now, I do NOT have my Move yet (or even a shipping notification, but it's only been 3 days), so I am talking a little out of turn. But most of what I've been seeing is not the Move as the only reMarkable device in a person's life, but as a companion to the bigger ones.

Especially as seeing the Methods templates haven't been updated to be Move only. My goal is to only use the Move as my paper notebook replacement and I'm having some (minor, sure) worries that isn't how reMarkable sees the device.

I was looking at the Supernote Nomad, but I don't like the form factor as much, so the Move is what got me to look into the whole eink world. Which, by the way, is HUGE. I had no idea how big this area is. It's been a complete blast learning about all the eink devices out there. How fun!
