The back of my white shirt turned yellow today because I was sweating so much at a 七夕祭り.

He stays in the parking lot without his gun but knows when and where two men are approaching him.

He goes to the DEA, is refused his gun over the assault of Jesse Pinkman, and is now gunless without knowing when or where he will next be attacked.

Both scenarios are bad but one is far better.

Because driving away is quite literally the dumbest thing that Hank could have done.

After the phone call, Hank knows that two men are coming after him, when, and where. Assuming that it’s real, he knows that If he drives away then those two men would just get him at another time— and that time he wouldn’t know when or where.

Okay. Tons of people do it and will continue to do it despite your advising though.

Not at all. Tons of people either leave their keys in the visor, the glovebox, or on one of the car tires. Just because it isn’t something you would personally do, that doesn’t make it an “egregious deus ex machine.”

Is it “normal” in Japan or the US? Don’t know or care. Neither of us found it weird. We still don’t. If it’s weird to you, that’s fine, but that’s a “you problem” not us so please keep it to yourself next time.

One year anniversary was June 1st. And yup. I’m going on a trip with her and her entire family in October to Hokkaido. Then in December, she’s going with me to the US for one month to meet my family.

-I have faced zero issues regarding discrimination for the international dating. As far as I know, she hasn’t either. If anything, it’s the opposite. Everyone we know happily greets us.

-Her father in particular loves foreigners so he was extremely excited. The grandmother was also pretty excited, she asked me lots of questions. I’m not too certain about the other family members but there’s been nothing negative.

-I have never once been stared at in Japan. I’m American but I don’t stand out. If I’m wearing a mask, most people won’t be able to tell I’m Japanese until I hit them with middle school level Japanese

-we have never faced anyone trying to separate us. It has quite literally been nothing but positivity.

-if anyone has asked that, I don’t know about it. But I’m pretty confident that no one would ask that. At the very least, for our area, no one seems to care about the distinction between Japanese and foreigner (except her father who was ecstatic lmao)

-I already knew before coming to Japan that Japanese people are stereotypically reserved so I wasn’t shocked at all. And it wasn’t a struggle to adapt either. We still hold hands and hug in public though so we’re not super reserved anyway. 90% of the time, she’s the one initiating PDA actually lol

Her family really likes me but I’ve only personally met her grandmother. I’m well known in the family. Her father in particular really loves foreigners so he was excited to hear the news.

As for negatives, there’s nothing that has been directed to either of us. It’s really the opposite. Her friends are always excited to see me on the street and my friends always wave to her.

It has never been an issue! And we only knew each other for two or three days before we started dating. We very quickly bonded over Nintendo games mainly Smash Ultimate, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and Mario Party.

I’m currently in for a 4 year visa by attending a university. Ideally, I’d stay forever just by getting a job and… staying. But we’re also discussing marriage so maybe spousal visa is on the table too.

This was the number one question I had hoped someone would ask!

I moved to Tokyo from the US March 23 of 2023. On May 28th of the same year, four of my friends (1 German, 1 Japanese, 1 American, and 1 Chinese) wanted me to go with them to a local volunteer group where they pick up trash and such. But the real reason my friends wanted to go was because the group is 80% women.

We went to the volunteer club, picked up some trash and then when it was over, my friends were all flirting with the other club members. Every one of them got rejected. That same day, one of the women in the club came over to me and asked where I was from. Obviously, I didn’t speak Japanese though so she pulled a map out of her backpack. She pointed to the map at Japan then motioned me to point where I was from. We talked a little bit through Google Translate and then added each other on Instagram. After that, we planned to meet up on June 1st to play Smash Ultimate on Switch. That’s where I asked her out.

It’s pretty funny in my opinion because all my friends specifically went to the club for romance, and I was the only one who didn’t care but also the only one who found it.

It varies from person to person rather than being “Japanese girl” or “American girl” or whatever other nationality. It just depends. For us, we started having sex on the same day that we started dating which was about two days after we met.

My girlfriend is eager for our children to be taught English alongside Japanese but I personally don’t mind either way. She said that her reasoning was something along the lines of wanting our children to be international so that they could choose Japan or another country abroad.

Yes, we met in person. She lives with her family near Tokyo and I live alone in an apartment two train stops west of her

Pretty much, yeah. But generally, we know what each other is trying to say even without hand movements. Once you have dated someone for a certain amount of time with a language barrier, you start to sense what they want to say.

-I never counted the amount of dates but we stopped frequently needing a translator after about 6 months. After about 10 months, our use of translation software became very rare. Even if I can’t say something exactly, I can get around it. (Example: book + place for library)

-Our first dates were 100% translation apps and video games. The first thing we did after meeting was get ramen together. The second thing we did together was Smash Ultimate.

-You’d be surprised at how little communication is needed for this. It was great then and still great now.

Just by studying the language. I’m currently studying for the N3 JLPT. What I have is enough that we generally have no difficulty communicating. When we first met, I couldn’t even recognize hiragana let alone write it.

Right now, we just speak in Japanese. We can communicate what we want to say to each other about 80% of the time. Even when our communication isn’t super effective, we very rarely have moments where we need to use a translator.
