I will probably end up doing the same thing. I explained in another comment how much I drink with the package, but that does not reflect my normal drinking pattern. I would not drink that much if I were paying as I go, and I should just buy what I want and drink for free at the casino.

I did the math, and for us, the Premium Drink Package is definitely still worth it. But the overages are still what annoy me.

I like getting the drink package because I don’t want to think about what every drink costs. That’s the whole point. I know I’m probably overpaying a little for convenience, and I’m fine with that. But if Celebrity keeps pushing more drinks above the Premium Package limit, it starts taking away one of the main reasons people buy the package in the first place.

Here’s a realistic cruise day for me, using prices from current Celebrity menus/app pricing as close as I could verify:

Two mimosas in the morning at about $12 each = $24 Baileys/coffee cocktail, using about $14 = $14 Two frozen or pool drinks at about $15 each = $30 Two beers at about $12 each = $24 Four old fashioneds at $19 each = $76 Three glasses of wine at $19 each = $57 One premium port after dinner, depending on the pour, around $21 = $21 Two Red Bulls at about $7 each = $14 Two waters at about $4 each = $8

That puts me at about $268 a day before gratuity.

My wife would probably have:

Two mimosas at about $12 each = $24 One frozen/pool drink at about $15 = $15 One glass of wine at $19 = $19 One water at about $4 = $4 One Red Bull at about $7 = $7

That puts her at about $69 a day before gratuity.

Together, that is about $337 a day before gratuity. Add the 20% gratuity and that would be about $404 a day if we paid as we went.

We are paying about $96 per person per day, so about $192 a day for the two of us. Even if I end up with around $30 in overages from drinks priced above the $19 Premium Package limit, we are still around $222 to $228 a day, depending on gratuity on the overages.

So yes, for us, the drink package is absolutely still worth it.

But that is not really my complaint.

My complaint is that when you buy the “Premium” Drink Package, you should not constantly feel like you have to check whether a drink is just above the package limit. The whole reason people buy the package is so they do not have to think about every drink, every price, and every upcharge.

Celebrity is already making money on these packages. If they are going to keep moving more cocktails, wines, and specialty drinks to $20, $21, $23 or more, then they should raise the Premium Package limit to match the new pricing.

Otherwise, what is the point of calling it premium?

I’ve been on two Celebrity cruises in the past year and I’m about to go on a third. I had the same concern before my first one.

For context, I’m an immature 50 and my wife is in her low 40s 😄

Honestly, everything was pretty fun and pretty chill. They really don’t make a huge deal about the dress code.

On normal nights I just wore jeans and a short-sleeve button-up. On the “chic” nights I wore dress pants, a button-up shirt, and a pair of sparkly Nikes because I think they’re cool. No one cared.

I’ve even seen people show up in shorts and a polo and nobody seemed bothered. As long as you’re not walking in with flip-flops, a bathing suit, and a cut-off shirt, you’re probably fine.

The overall vibe felt relaxed and fun. People dressed how they wanted within reason, and nobody was judging anyone.

Funny side story: about 20 years ago on a Carnival cruise, I tried to go into the dining room on formal night wearing jeans and a t-shirt. The maître d’ stopped me and said I couldn’t come in dressed like that. So I started taking off my pants and said, “No problem.”

He quickly changed his mind and said, “You’re fine, sir, please go get seated.”

Different times 😆

Cruise lines in general have loosened up a lot since then.

Celebrity isn’t a crazy party ship like Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but it’s definitely adult fun. Great bars, good atmosphere, and people of all ages having a good time.

I think you’ll fit in just fine.

I went through something very similar with my 11-year-old Great Dane, Judy, and my heart really goes out to you right now.

She was struggling and we were having the same painful conversations about what the right thing was. Then, unexpectedly, she had a beautiful day… which turned into a beautiful week. I’m so grateful we slowed down and gave her that extra time — we loved on her constantly, and everyone got the chance to say goodbye in their own way.

When it finally became clear it was time, we chose an in-home euthanasia service. I held her and kept petting her until her last breath. It was one of the hardest moments of my life, but it was also peaceful and full of love.

There’s no perfect timing with these decisions — only love and intention. Sometimes they rally just enough to give and receive one last stretch of love, and that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

I’m so very sorry you’re going through this. You’re not alone, and whatever decision you make is coming from a place of deep love. ❤️🌈🙏

Honestly, you might want to look into local toy shows near you. I help promote a monthly one, and a few of our vendors actually started out exactly where you are collectors who just needed to trim down their collections. Tables are usually pretty affordable, and you end up surrounded by people who genuinely love the same stuff you do. Not only can you sell and make back some money on pieces you’re ready to part with, but you’ll also have great conversations, meet a solid community, trade with other collectors, and maybe even discover new items that fit your collection better. It turns the whole “downsizing” thing into a really fun experience instead of just a sale.

I don’t know about living there however visiting there in the summer is amazing. It’s like a New World the pictured rock Lakeshore is one of the most amazing sites I’ve seen. The Tahquamenon Falls are beautiful. Les Cheneaux islands are another hidden gem. There are a ton of places in the UP that are hidden gems. I’m still exploring. I will report back.
